It's not just something that happens in cartoons.

I saw the headline yesterday , but didn't click on it. Thanks for sharing. Another "turn blue in the Danube" moments?

Reminds me of what Damien Hirst was doing.

Three feet of ice on a flowing river in southern Germany? The temperature there today is 28F.

Sounds like fake news.

The fox that killed itself when it saw its opportunity as a circus performer in the States extinguished.

Probably hypothermia, then drowning. As a rowing referee, our training includes repeated reminders of the speed of hypothermia in cool water. A lot of our races are in late fall and early spring, when the water is cold and the wind is blowing. The athletes are dressed skimpily. We rescue them first and then worry about the equipment later.

Freeze dried, like a fox.

Stationed in Augsburg in the 1950's, and believe me, it can get cold there. Like -30 C cold.

I've heard of a "stone cold fox" before but that's ridiculous.

You call this "fair and balanced"? 'Cause I don't.

Poor thing. We had s fox in my old neighborhood. Once I saw it resting under my Bradford pear tree checking the route that squirrels took from the trees to our bird feeders. Beautiful animals.

Though death probably was quick, those pictures are awful to look at.

Robert Wrigley wrote a good poem called Elk, about an elk caught mid river when the water froze.

The river behind the ice fox appears to be free of ice, but I like the way the tail is cantilevered, so you can appreciate the shape of the fox.

What does the Fox say? This one? Nothing.

@Amexpat -- Made me think of Hurst too. Nature is more beautiful and ruthless.

Two rectangular blocks of ice, of different dimensions, stacked on top of each other, slightly askew, a fox contained within. Then a third block of ice propped up with what appears to be a metal rod. I don't know, I'm not sure I can buy that story.
