Fact check of Meade: Zero roosters crowing! Down to the tax cuts!

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be YUGE, therefore, as your heavenly Father is YUGE.

Not my understanding of Presbyterian theology in the least. Indeed, I would suggest that Roman Catholicism, and, esp. Islam, are more so (which is part of why Muslims are so horribly bad at innovation, except when it comes to violence against infidels). Part of the Reformation was a reaction against Roman Catholic predestination, which was arguably part of their theology in order to keep the masses happy with their state. Born a serf, die a serf. Nothing you can do about it, except live your life in faith as a serf. The Protestants, and esp. the Calvinists, believed that you actually could benefit in this world from your good works, and, therefore, getting rich was not, in itself, sinful. Which is, in itself, a big step away from predestination, and, arguably, a good part of why this country has been so great at innovation.

I'm also guessing that Trump's first signature achievement won't be "Cash for Clunkers".

You've never actually read any Catholic theologians, have you?

Actually, among the early Protestant Reformers (e.g. Luther & Calvin), they were much more into predestination than than the Catholics. Immediately post Luther, the Lutherans settle into a doctrine of Predestination fairly close to the Catholics. The Calvinists, on the other hand, go very heavily into a detailed theology of predestination. The Protestant reaction against the "invasive" predestination of the Calvinists is called Arminianism. Probably the most important reformers to espouse Arminianism are the Wesley brother, the founders of Methodism.

There is, in Catholic history or theology, no understanding that folks should stay where they were born in terms of "caste". None, absolutely none. Matter of fact, the clerical orders were often used as a stepping stone by the lowers classes who would place a bright boy or girl with a religious order in order that they could be educated & rise above their birth class. Europe at the time was run by a feudal aristocracy, & no one, including the Christian churches, woke up one fine morning & thought "Hey, wait! I've just thought up another way of organizing society!". And that very emphatically includes the Reformers, e.g. Martin Luther, who supported the German nobility as they massacred over 100,000 German peasants in the German Peasants Revolt of 1524.

What the hell would prompt someone to engage in activity that might have the appearance of impropriety, poor judgement?

If he violated the STOCK Act he should withdraw from consideration. This is not on DT, but if he truly wishes to drain the swamp, this might be a fatal flaw for his HHS pick.

The deciding issue for me was the perennial prevarication from the Pantsuit Princess. If you can't stop lying, you can't get my vote.

I was very disappointed when Obama one in 08 and even more so in 2012. I thought it was a disaster when the ACA passed in 2010, because once done, a behemoth like that is nearly impossible to undo. Still, I managed easily to keep my food down those three times. When the Republicans won Congress in 2010, I was confident they could keep Obama contained for the duration. They did a pretty good, if inelegant, job of that.

Some of you folks on the left side of the fence take things much harder than you need to. The country has survived a civil war and many presidents. We will survive Trump, the ACA, and Colin Kaepernick.

OCD is an anxiety disorder that responds poorly to SSRIs. Sometimes anxiolytics provide temporary help, but they are likely to make someone sluggish, not hyper. In my experience as a clinical psychologist, systematic desensitization is the most effective treatment for OCD.

BTW, being a bit OCD is not necessarily bad. It depends on your job and whether it has a negative or positive impact on your life. I want engineers and surgeons to be a little OCD. Lives are often at stake.

Which is why it's great that Trump ran on such conservative principles, like: Trade wars, tariffs, infrastructure spending, the working class/working poor, keeping key provisions of the ACA, non-intervention, etc.

The best thing Trump did was to put the conservative Republicans into an identity crisis, where endorsing him now means going along with key progressive items.

drago, not that it matters, but i was referring to your comment regarding chuck's 'complete and utter botched expert-on-the-ground readings of the election and the electorate.' like i said i dont recall you EVER saying here that trump was a sure thing... if i'm wrong tell me, point me to a comment you made and i'll eat my hat, so to speak.. (between drinks here) and this i guess is the point where you start pointing fingers instead of commenting... happy new year anyway and i hope trump and his gang are the answer to your prayers... we are all in this together and your triumph will be mine also... so go get 'em ... as davey crockett used to say 'make sure you're right, then go ahead'

GWash, Trump was not my first, second or third choice in the primaries, but I very happily voted for him when the choice was between the Queens loudmouth and the Hag of Chappaqua. So I fully expect him to disappoint me at times. Hillary would have done things I hated 100% of the time, so I don't think I will regret my vote - in fact the ongoing hysteria and complete lack of self-awareness exhibited by Trump haters have assured me that the vote I cast in November was the correct one.

Happy New Years to all.

Vicki, I hate to be the one to break it to you, but the "alt-right" is a figment of your imagination. I'm sure that they exist, as much as I'm sure that the KKK still does, but as a percentage of voters, they may as well not. You need to separate your rhetoric from your reality. Trump was not elected by the alt-right, or the kkk, or for that matter, by what is left of the tea party. Trump was elected by folks that you hoped would vote for Hillary. Perhaps Trump when he tweeted was thinking of his run in on Friday with biographer Harry Hurt III at his golf course in Florida. Trump required Hurt to leave with the rest of his golfing foursome. Which just created a headline and gave them all a story to dine out on for months. And gave the rest of us a reason to look up the long out of print bio in which Hurt wrote things like the fact that first wife Ivana "confided to female friends that Donald had difficulty achieving and maintaining an erection." Why does winner Trump want to do stuff like that?

Bruce Hayden :

Lolwut?

So what's the endgame for Mr. P. and T? Neither particularly like borders and regulation that add costs and interfere with the free enterprise by a free people, and add totally unnecessary costs for feeding the elite pigsty, in the era of hashtag conversance. George Soros could only dream so big. The U.S. grew out of some notion of federalism with some simple rules for their interaction what was permissible and not in terms of dictating to their people. Perhaps the United Countries of the World the UCW. Soon to include the moon and mars. The current situation is just too enabling of the elites and preventing people from reaching their full potential and advancing the betterment of all mankind. Take that you communist, Mr. Soros. Why not dream big, once you’ve set the model for fixing a country that was only going down the toilet, but those already in the sewage processing plant. It’s only software and at the end of the day, easy to replicate. And if it’s just replicated, all the parts fit together and are easy to fix when the gears don’t mesh.
