The NYT emails top stories

Mafias of the poor: Gangs have made El Salvador the world’s murder capital, but their members appear to barely make living wages

One way to organize society is hit the other guy on the head and take his stuff. It leads to extreme poverty. Economics 101.

Sunrise on Picnic Point? Did you see Jupiter? Did you observe the Jovian moons?

Oh. Cloudy. Never mind.

Lovely photos. Keep them coming. A good counter-balance to the politics (although the good guy won)

Is Hillary ever resurrected?
The Clintons have been part of the landscape since 1992. I just don't see them going quietly.

Romney got it right when he called Trump a sewer rat (to liberally paraphrase him). His settling of a swindler lawsuit for $25 million leads me to conclude that he is a swindler by that very fact alone. People who support him now are nuts. I can't believe that Trump will name Romney to any post in his administration. Trump holds grudges and rightly so in my opinion when it comes to Mitt's disparagement. This meeting between the two of them was for public consumption to feign unity within the Rethuglican party.

One last thing, when traveling abroad, it is advisable (for your own well-being to tell people that you are Canadian. Trump is mostly hated abroad and has tainted this country something fierce.

too bad we haven't moved further with space colonization, we could export so many refugees to space to do AMAZING breakthrough work developing that kind of life.

syrians as space explorers, how cool is that?

not that they would go far away, I am just thinking an orbital 60,000 person station just a space elevator away from tierra firma.

too bad we don't have it going right now.

ah, the century ahead!

Not so. It's our virtue-signalling self-loathing fellow-Americans who hate us more than anybody. It's Oikophobia. You could look it up.

You have NEVER been overseas.

Says the person who has never been in any sort of business. Trump has bigger fish to fry right now.

Has anyone asked Larry Summers about his involvement with Premise Data Corporation? He gets free reign to make the rounds of all the leftie news networks and rant about Trump, but has there been anything definitive from him on his involvement or lack thereof? Snopes doesn't count.

I like the Trump cup campaign. It's exactly the thing the left would be doing if the loafers were on the other feet. 'Starting a conversation' as it were.

The thing about Washington is that every game is close. Can't we have at least one game when we win by a lot? I hope we beat Green Bay. Bad.

LOL! The only people 'overseas' who hate Trump are the same kinds of PC elitists we have here. Most of the hoi polloi are sympathetic to our position and are pleasantly surprised by our election outcome. This will become more evident in upcoming European elections.

OTOH, Canadians really don't like Trump--or Americans--very much.

I'm happy to see the Hamilton push back has commenced. It looks like someone went to the Chicago show and disrupted it by shouting Trump Won You Lost Get Over It. Or something along those lines.

Liberals should be lucky I'm not rich. If I were, I'd be buying 8 tickets to every show and filling it with protesters to go off every 15 minutes shouting, "Trump won you lost get over it!" or something along those lines.

And I'd keep it up until they apologized for their idiocy and regretted ever being so obnoxious.

At a press conference Sunday in Lima [Peru] the president [Obama] said he does not believe he will be the last Democratic president, for a while, and made no promise to not speak up if he feels it to be "helpful" and "necessary" for him to comment on President-elect Trump's proposals.

What was it Talleyrand said of the Bourbons?

One thing that can be said of Obama, eight years of failure weren't enough to dent his self-esteem.

I miss the dry, cold, iron-gray late fall/winter days of the Midwest and the East of the Cascades West. I don't want 365 of them or anything like that but they definitely call up some nostalgia. In SW WA, the seasons don't change, they bleed into each other.

In the Age of Trump

I think anybody should be able to use the executive washrooms. That is a civil right if I understand current law.

And I hear that space is YUGE.

And I'm waiting for Lena Dunham to emigrate and Cher to take a rocket for outer space or even just the moon. But really I'm waiting to hear their excuses. There's no need to fill in forms. Just go - say you are seeking asylum. "No, no, not an asylum - political asylum."

I found a large gold safety pin in the dryer the other day as I was putting in my Les Deplorables T-shirt. No one in the house has ever been seen by anyone else in the house wearing either of these articles but it is being done.

I was abroad during election day and for the following week. I talked to many people about the election and ran into zero problems.

However, perhaps you could regale us with your experience.

Ann, check out the latest posts on the tilted photo. A commenter named Ted Gehring found Hilary Swift's Instagram page, and the same photo is posted there and has no tilt! The NY Times tilted it!

Why don't cops get safe spaces? Maybe the cops should put on a show and invite Obama or Biden and at the end, give then some kind of a snide/heartfelt plea to protect them?

Bad Lieutenant said...

Oh, right, because they're men. Also because Biden would throw fruit and Obama would have them audited.

Well, with Thanksgiving this week it's time for the Presidential pardon of a turkey at the White House, a ritual that goes back to Lincoln apparently.

It would be awesome if next year President Trump says "Fuck that, preheat the oven!" as he wrings the turkeys neck.

Yes, I saw that and commented over there. You can't assume the NYT tilted it unless you know Swift didn't untilt it.

Let's be logical!
