Post-Roger Ailes, Fox News should redo its overly overly made-up blondes...

... in the style of Ivanka Trump.

It's a simple upgrade and modernization.

Ailes was 100% right about presenting extraordinarily beautiful women as newscasters.

David Begley said...

Better idea. Hire Althouse as the flyover person who makes charming (and biting) comments from Madison. Spice up Greta's show. Badger fight. Create controversy. Althouse as the Devil's Advocate; remotely, of course. Who would leave Madison? Fox did it for Palin, so why not. And we know Ann reads the NYT and WaPo. New Yorker too.

Meade could run the camera. Laslo as occasional guest, but toned down. His Angry Black Man riffs would wake America up. You think you have problems?

Laslo Spatula said...

Interesting.

I will make the argument that the Fox female newscasters' visual cues are akin to 80's-era IVANA Trump.

Make-up, hair, earrings: Ivana.

Time for Ivanka, really.

I am Laslo.

I repeat what I said in another thread. Ailes is gone and why was Megyn Kelly the reasonably powerful woman on that network wearing all that makeup and that tank top on convention night, Wednesday?

They'll overcorrect in the other direction. Instead of Trump, they'll frump them down to Maddow clones to appease the Hillarites.

Fox continues to march towards extinction as the average age of Fox News, primetime viewers is stuck at 68

True, they're just dying ... as mentioned!

Sprezzatura said...

One problem w/ less makeup is that a lot of these gals are up there in years. Not that they're HRC-old, but they are old enough that they don't want to look their ages.

I guess there may be a way to load up age hiding makeup w/o looking like you've load up makeup.

It's probably easier to just replace these gals when they hit expiration.

chickelit said...

Jelly wrote: It's probably easier to just replace these gals when they hit expiration.

That's like the globalist business model currently under attack by Trump.

Sprezzatura said...

Copying Melania's look isn't the thing Fox should learn from Trump.

The better lesson is to note that Trump ditches gals when they're too old.

shiloh said...

Paragraph from the the "Fox News is dying" article.

Donald Trump is leading the Republican primary because he understands who the Fox News viewers are and what they want to hear. Trump is running on a platform that is designed to capture the votes of the Fox News crowd. The fact that Donald Trump is flourishing as Fox News is aging is not a coincidence.

ie it's really hard for Trump to expand his base beyond his core birther lemmings. Trump's through the roof unfavorables notwithstanding. I digress.

Keep hope alive!

Tits. Hips. Ass. The traditional weather girl, anyway. Short dress if she bends over.

Who said anything about copying Melanie's look?

I anticipated you bringing up Trump's ditching of women. I've long believed -- ever since he announced -- that this is the major reason why Trump repels women. To date, I've seen no frank discussion of this. Nor have I seen a discussion of Hillary's man problem which is based on her overt asexuality among other things.

Megyn Kelly and Shannon Bream are overdone on the glam - and the voices.

Maria Bartiromo I wish would use a little make-up and color and relax to be herself the way she is when visiting on other shows. What she is talking about is way over my head, but I have always liked her. It is possible to be both intelligent and likeable.

(Way over my head, but I used to watch Louis Rukeyser's show, and whatever, but the young ladies had to hold their own against successful male financiers twice their age and seemed to do so quite well.)

Sprezzatura said...

chick,

I really botched my reading of Althouse's post. She wrote Ivanka, but I thought Melania.

Anywho, Switching from the current aging Fox gals to Ivanka type gals has way more to do with getting younger gals than anything else.

I don't know if Althouse conciously realizes that the Ivanka's advantage has nothing to do w/ style or presentation. Ivanka is younger than the old Fox gals who are pretending to be young.

A vote for Harris Faulkner. First off, she is an amazing journalist. I don't think there is a better show anchor/moderator to keep the conversations fair and moving forward. She is always grounded and will sometimes surprise you with her perspective… Whatever the show she does on Sunday eve that has the Dem and the GOP is great! She knows how to balance things.. Harris Faulknew is the A+ gold standard.

Faulkner is also absolutely beautiful in a classic and classy way. And by that I mean she is not going for "hot" which is a distraction and thus non-professional for a journalist. Megyn Kelly used to be more pleasing until she decided to turn into Sly Stallone's german girlfriend Brigitte Nielsen. Kelly looks absolutely ridiculous and I keep waiting for her to pull out a gun.

But what do I know? I cut my cable cord last week for good. Not going back. Who needs some network filter when there is a big world of twitter, blogs, podcasts and Periscope out there? Think about this when you read Hillary is outspending Trump by a wide margin…I suspect she is flushing her money (and by that I mean the blood money she sold influence for) down a rathole.

I'll be spending my money on real journalism that adds to our understanding, not based on who is hot and who is not.

Right opinions plus right dress = TV success. Roger Ailes understood that but so do the others. There's plenty of ideas, discussions, data elsewhere, we don't have to require information or understanding from TV people. In fact I think that the monetary rewards for the right public persona in the media circle are now so enormous that protecting and furthering that persona becomes a limit on the person. It's like Marie Antoinette's towering hairdos. That sort of thing takes time, it takes money and it requires a certain kind of public event, hence a certain kind of public. Then, the bubble forms. From it on a string of lies depends another bubble, the powerful of today. Outside both bubbles the peasants gibber.

What is Trump's stance on the bank bailout?

http://www.politifact.com/florida/statements/2015/sep/15/club-growth/did-donald-trump-support-wall-street-bailout-club-/

Trump on the bailout

In October 2008, Congress created a $700 billion emergency bailout fund called the Troubled Asset Relief Program, or TARP, to rescue banks in response to the subprime mortgage crisis.

President George W. Bush pressed for passage, and it also drew the support of GOP presidential nominee John McCain and the Democratic nominee, Barack Obama.

The Club for Growth cited three statements by Trump in support of the bailout. However, the ad omits that he expressed some skepticism about whether it would work.

On Sept. 30, 2008, CNN’s Kiran Chetry asked Trump about the bailout days before its final passage. The ad includes this segment of that interview:

Chetry: "Do you think that this bailout plan needs to pass in some way, shape or form for things to stabilize?"

Trump replied: "Well, I think it would be better if it passed."

But the ad omits the rest of Trump’s statement in which he expressed some doubt about the bailout:

"I'm not sure that it's going to work. You know, it is trial and error. This is very complicated. This is more complicated than sending rockets to the moon.

Nobody really knows what impact it's going to have. Maybe it works, and maybe it doesn't. But certainly it is worth a shot.

But I think overall, it's a probable positive, other than you have to control the price of oil. Because if you don't, whatever happens with the bailout, if you want to call it the bailout, whatever happens with the bailout, is will have no impact, no positive impact."

On Larry King Live on April 15, 2009, King asked Trump his opinion of Obama and Trump turned to the bailout in part of his answer:

"I do agree with what they're doing with the banks. Whether they fund them or nationalize them, it doesn't matter, but you have to keep the banks going," Trump said.

On Feb. 18, 2009, Trump talked about the bank bailout on David Letterman:

"The one thing is, the government came in and intelligently put money into the banks, so that if you have your money in CDs or whatever in the banks, you’re not going to lose your money at least.""

And LOL at the idea that reposting boilerplate talking points and propaganda counts in any way as "discussion". Well, maybe for someone like you it does.

Paco, I don't give a rats ass what other commenters call themselves. I do care about the issues. Again I wonder why you would even take the time to comment on other commenters user names. I comment on several blogs, what user name I choose to use at the moment should really be of no concern to you. That is seems of such importance to you makes you appear odd and overly interested in other commenters identities. Do you often stalk others?

Yes, clearly the one and only network that's completely killing its competitors needs to change. Yea, that makes sense... if you want them to stop winning.

I'll bet you do. Maybe if you stuck to one you'd get better at it.

@anonymous at 3:53: Part of Paco's point may be that character change and sock-puppetry should not be so transparent. I've never indulged, but I can imagine it to be an art form akin to acting wherein the puppetmaster convincingly assumes multiple characters without detection. Doing it poorly assaults an aesthetic sensibility.

Also, you do happen to resemble a former commenter named Inga who was (in my opinion, unfairly) chased from here. That may or may not be your fault, but we'll never know. People who comment here became familiar with other commenters' view and opinions. It's almost like you're trying to wreck that. Just my $0.02

"Kaine was very smooth. A way better speaker than Hillary."

His career accomplishments are also way better than Clinton's. In fact, if you were to take the top 17 Democrats in the DNC, Clinton's CV would be the least impressive. The others would also interview as trustworthy. Unlike Clinton.

Paco Wové said...

"Doing it poorly assaults an aesthetic sensibility."

Absolutely. I'm just trying to spur our local sockpuppets to greater heights. Just put a little more effort into it!

...and speaking of the trolling art, I remember almost with fondness the Original Titus, who created an entire new Blogspot account for every comment. There truly was a God among trolls.

Anonymous said...

Former commenters and the way they interacted with others here is of no concern to me. I find it odd and a banal waste of time to try to "out" other commenters. I don't care who you are, why anyone would care who I am is a bit nutty. No issues of the day interesting enough? Now for the love of God, can we get back to discussing matters that affect the way we Americans are affected by the issues of the day and the leaders who would either help or hurt us? Or maybe even the subject matter of this blog post? I do plead guilty to being off topic.

Anonymous said...

Paco, you are playing the part of troll here, not I.

walter said...

Whether a notion or idea comes from an established commenter or a "troll" or "MOBY!", What difference at this point does it make?" There is always the option to ignore a comment. Yes..err..one of teh "anonymous" this identity outing is truly a banal wast of space.

It appears that Paco is trying to deflect from the great rollout of Clnton's VP, Kaine. I guess if this is his purpose, it's understandable, but still a stupid way of deflecting from the fact that Kaine is making a very good impression with not only liberals, but moderates too. Clinton probably knew she would piss off some progressives with her choice, but I think she's going to get an even greater benefit by drawing in NeverTrumpers and moderates.

You can thank Obama for that, he rescued us from the brink of financial disaster, thanks to Bush.

So Bush was responsible for the mortgage disaster? My my he was a powerful man.

Trust me, Commenter Of A Thousand Faces, I don't think that I, a mere infrequent commenter on Althouse, have the power to add to or detract from Kaine's or Clinton's wonderfulness. The earnestness with which you approach your Great Commission – Must defeat evil righties! All for the Blue Tribe! – is truly a thing of amusement to this old cynic.

No fear, Anon #THX1138. Done and done. That said, is it your wish to speak unopposed here, rather than to interact? You can, in fact, pretty much do that. But what I think you may need is some software that will help you do it faster. That would increase your productivity, and perhaps your pay, depending on how much capitalism your Masters can bear.

However I think we can all agree that the mask is off of you. It really doesn't matter the name of the orc once you know it's an orc.

If you try hard enough you can ruin the blog. The hostess has no tools to oppose you. Probably you could drive everybody else off the blog entirely. Ann will understand about taking one for the team.

I believe those who wish to "ruin the blog" are not people who want to remain anonymous or unknown, it is people who try to "out" other commenters who desire that their identity remain private. Blogger allows for this and Althouse does not discourage it. It is the continuous distraction away from the discussion at hand to the identity of other commenters is what brings down the IQ of the thread and bogs it down. I'm quite certain Althouse does not for a moment believe that anonymous/ unknown commenters have any agenda to "ruin her blog". The opposite is true, if her blog were not interesting and well known, WE would not be here.

Also "Unknown", if the comments of those who have a different opinion or outlook to yours drives you off a blog, it doesn't speak well for you. In fact I'd say they you were cowardly and unable to engage in an exchange of ideas, but instead are more interested belonging to an echo chamber. Man up. Grow a pair.

Foreign Policy
Mr. Kaine, who sits on the Senate’s Foreign Relations and Armed Services Committees, backed the Iran nuclear deal and the normalization of relations with Cuba. He has argued that Mr. Obama must seek authorization from Congress to carry out airstrikes against the Islamic State. And he has called for the establishment of safe zones in Syria to protect civilians.

Tim Kaine's son is a US Marine officer, you seriously think Kaine had some secret ties to jihadists?

Okay, maybe Kaine is just really stupid. Or was bribed or threatened so thoroughly that he would betray his own child.

Either way, his objective support of Islamofascism is clearly disqualifying to any rational mind, which to be sure excludes yours.

It's entirely newsworthy that Hillary Clinton's campaign has been accused of hiring internet commenter (trolls) to infest blog comments. You may choose to disbelieve this and you might even approve of it because it drives your traffic. But it's political spam, Althouse. You delete cluttering spam so why the double standard? On the other hand, commenters like Jon Ericson do a pretty good job of shaming in a humorous way.

Bad Lieutenant said...

Not to mention what will happen if there are a thousand or 10000 posts by Anonymous and HeideCruise and FranklinDoof on every single thread. At the very least you'd have to put moderation back on.
