"I wanted to shoot raw footage of [The Daily Show's] interview with a young, gay conservative, because I wanted to compare it to their final cut and see whether they had been fair to him."

"I didn’t want this person to be humiliated merely for being gay and having the ‘wrong’ political views... They told me not to film, then they told me —incorrectly — that I couldn’t film them, and then one of their reporters pushed me. Finally, they gave up, packed up their cameras and ran away."

All for it. If I were being interviewed by a TV crew - regardless of which outfit they were with - I'd sure as hell want my own recording of what went down.

The actions of the thugs from The Daily Show are shocking, and they rip the lid off the real purpose off the show: political propaganda disguised as entertainment. They weren’t trying to hide their “jokes” but were trying to keep their dwindling viewership from seeing how they make the sausage.

I don't know whether it's proper to cite another blog in the comments, but, if no offense is taken, I'd like to recommend Megan McArdle's essay, "Don't Ever Appear on 'The Daily Show'":

That's how the Daily Show operations--splice and edit interviews to show out of context to humiliate. If you care about your public image at all, you never agree to interview with them.

Or ask how long the segment is and give them no more than that time.

After Colbert's stunt, I'm surprised any conservative/Republican leaning person thinks the Daily Show even has the pretense of being fair to them.

The only right way to be interviewed by Colbert is while you are beating the crap out of him.

And he's got a lot of crap inside him.

The Daily Show antagonist was high handed and hypocritical, but it's a stretch to call him thuggish. In any event more people will probably see this exposé than the actual Daily Show.......If a tree falls in the forest, sort of philosophical question: Can the Daily Show mock anyone if it's only seen by its own film crew?

It's revealing they packed up and quit because they knew a hatchet job would be discovered. Apparently a straight interview was literally inconceivable.

The Daily Show is totally harmless compared to the speech suppression at college campuses. If you don't want to appear on the Daily Show, you don't have to. Whereas it's a little harder to avoid attending college. That's why I have a hard time taking any university professor seriously, when they raise concerns about free expression. They're all total hypocrites.

damikesc said...

They also ignore that the interviewer has people there researching things for him during the interview. The interviewee doesn't get that.

Never, ever give an interview without a recording under your control.

Kind of like why good cops LOVE their own cameras.

Gavin McInness did an interview with them about the Women's Soccer team complaining about being paid the same as men, in spite of winning the World Cup (ignoring that the men make far more money and if the men's WC had the same ratings as the Women's WC, FIFA would be in deep trouble). He even made up obvious joke names of players (I think one was "buttercup") and they played it as a serious response.

1 is enough, if he/she is sufficiently fabulous. Which Milo is.

So there is that.

Quick question: how many Titus' would it take to = the fabulousness of 1 Milo?

Trick question! You can't get there from here!

Oh, I don't know. Titus seems pretty fabulous to me. Hard to tell, though. I'll be disappointed if I discover he is a fat old man in a decaying New York coop being nursed by his catamite or something. One can be anything over the internet. He could be a suburban hausfrau in Pennsylvania.

Isn't obvious how evil the Republicans are? Being a Republican means you're suffering from some sort of mental illness. Therefore youust be hated and mocked.

I have never heard of this Milo thing but now i saw his picture and the dying of the hair blonde is a complete travesty-not fab.

How do you guys know all these bloggers? It must require work.

I know like Althouse.

fyi-I could never be fat or poor-I would kill myself first, and plus you would be completely invisible in the gay world. Oh also if you are a republican.

Gays are not like blacks to democrats-btw.

Gays are like blacks to republicans though-hated. There is a reason 98% of the gays vote democrat and it is because the hateful spew many republicans spout off for the past many years. They are getting better though as they know the businesses, which buy them, are on the gay side.

Straights have not walked in the shoes of the gay so they have no idea how hateful republicans have been to them. Sorry you are not eligible to comment straighties.

I've been mistaken for gay, back when I was young, and assaulted for it. On several occasions. (By people demographically near-guaranteed to be Democrats, though that's beside the point.) Does that qualify as walking in the shoes of the gay? Gee whiz, I hope Titus decides I might be eligible to comment after all. Because it's up to you, right?

I'm gay, live in the South, and am a proud Republican. I have zero issues, but I'm not a self centered, egotistical, preening prick like you, Titus. My guess is it's not the gay part people hate about you.

Maybe it's the fact that you're a total prick.

Is it so terrible to be invisible? Most people are "invisible", including those who actually run most important things. Its a peculiar sort of value system here.

"There is a reason 98% of the gays vote democrat"

What bullshit.

In 2004, Bush got 23% of the gay vote.
In 2006, gays voted 24% for Republicans in the midterms.
In 2008, gays voted 27% for McCain.
In the 2010 House races, gays voted 31% Republican.

Source: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/postpartisan/2010/11/gop_gay_old_party_more_gays_vo.html

So, yeah, not only is your "98% vote Democrat" complete bullshit, but the trend is going completely the other way. 8% of gays have moved from the Democrat to the Republican column between 2004 and 2010. Four times as many Democrats switched to Republicans in those short 6 years than you claim as the total number of Republicans altogether. What a fraud you are.

Titus does not live in Boston and does not have an Indian husband with a major hog. He most likely still lives in Wisconsin. I even doubt that Titus is gay. There is another Google/Blogger handle here that he sometimes post under that he accidentally used the Titus character with. It was a very rare and unfortunate slip-up a few months back.

That said, I don't mind having Titus around here. No big deal.

No, TCom, that can't be true - not if you're smart & educated. Titus was pretty clear--such people don't exist. You shouldn't claim to exist if you don't; it's not polite to do so.

Hey, wasn't it supposed to be doubleplusungood to ignore the existence of a demographic group, or to overlook/not represent them in some discussion? I mean, didn't the Left equate that with genocide or something--like failing to mention or take account of members of some minority group was a form of "eliminationist rhetoric" or something?

Isn't Titus making smart & educated southern gays unpersons a perfect example of exactly that? I mean, there's a pretty large, pretty vibrant population of gays here in Atlanta...well, I thought there was, but Titus says I'm wrong.

Stop the hate speech, Titus.

Here is a note for all you ignorant assholes that automatically call southerners stupid: Do a search on Huntsville, Alabama, or the Research Triangle in North Carolina, or Duke, or Vandy or.... just forget it and F you very much.

Titus can be a bit smug at times but all the same he is amusing and somehow comes across as likable. It's just words on a screen. He/she/we can be whatever we want to be.

Back to the subject at hand, if your are asked to be interviewed assume away that it isn't going to be fair and friendly unless you are a country's dictator. So either pass on the interview or be prepared to record the recording.

What is scary is that soon enough technology will advance enough that interviews won't even be needed. Guys like Colbert could have their writers and production companies have a CGI that is indistinguishable from a real interview subject and have them say whatever they want the CGI say.

I've heard that gay shoes are pretty uncomfortable.

We are smart and educated, except in the south, and we know the difference.

"A special Gallup report finds that 3.4% of U.S. adults identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT), with the highest incidence among those who are non-white, younger, and less educated."

The Myth of Gay Affluence

They must be in the south, therefore not "we".

Well, we know Gays are lower than Muzzies on the Democrat Totem Pole. I imagine that's a reasoned calculation on the Dem's part. Gays don't reproduce and, when the Muzzies are done with them, they'll effectively be non-existent.

Milo has pointed out that the Muzzies do indeed sit on top of the Democrat totem pole -and that they want to kill every other group below them on the pole. I don't think "reasoned calculation" enters into the picture. When you have white German social workers who are raped by the Syrians they are trying to help and the women don't report the rapes or lie and say they were raped by white men because they don't want to get their rapists into trouble - what is that? Certainly not reason. Maybe it's a hatred of their own civilization and race that goes so deep it can't be reasoned with.

I saw a picture of this Milo. The last person I would have expected to be driven off Twitter. How little we know.

What is the name for being de-Twittered by the way? A detweet? A twexit? And after they show little videos where your former hashtag appears to you and then floats away while you run vainly after it like a Pokemon image? "Ex-Tweeter Milo recounts his tortured journey back from Digitistan." "Someone showed me a fountain pen - I didn't know, I just didn't know anymore you could write without a keyboard. My memories before a Brooklyn loft had all been dumped. I ... Snapchat, what's that?" tape breaks off at this point

Yes, Muslims trump every other Democratic constituency, be it gays, women, whatever. Muslims (some Muslims) are perfectly happy throwing gays off buildings or crushing them beneath walls; a lot of Muslims are keen on putting "their" women in garments such that the sun never hits their faces, slaughtering them for destroying the family "honor" by, say, kissing a guy without being chaperoned, &c.

It's worth pondering how such a situation came to be.
