Let's watch the Democratic debate!

Say what you think and I'll weigh in if I think anything.

UPDATE: I guess I had no thoughts. I almost blogged O'Malley saying "L'etat c'est moi," but decided to wait for the transcript. And Sanders asked Clinton if she'd ever heard of Bill Clinton. Then Hillary said "May the force be with you," which made everyone forget everything else anyone said.

ADDED: I found the O'Malley line in the transcript: "I was the only -- one of only seven states that had a AAA bond rating."

I haven't watched any of the debates so far, but it is amusing to monitor twitter during the debates to get funny hot takes.

If I think anything!!

Do you really think it will be that boring??
It's going to be three hours of Hillary trying to hit her talking points, and Bernie yelling at the kids playing on the front lawn!!

Now I realize what I don't like about these Democrat evenings: just about everything seems to be scripted. Each candidate lines up to give a memorized monologue. Weird.

Well, that was a completely dishonest answer about profiling by Sanders.

O'Malley has thrown in a new buzz word for judging our military actions: Battle Pace.

O'Malley wants a better Battle Pace and he wants it now. It will fix everything.

Hillary says it will take 18-24 months to put a better screening process in place but in the meantime keep letting people come here.

If there is another attack in the US, Hillary is finished.

Life is too short for that. There was a pretty good murder story on TV though. Not murdering Ryan, though. Not yet.

I'm watching with the sound muted. Big improvement.

Still, I must ask, pantsuit?

What a contrast between Hillary and Sanders and Trump and Cruz. Hillary and Trump in a debate would be amazing. Hillary KNOWS the issues, Trump didn't even know what the nuclear triad is. Both Sanders and Hillary are doing an excellent hob, they make me proud to be a Democrat. You Republcans are stuck with Trump...

How much are they going to ask about the dust up between sanders and Clinton now that sanders agreed not to sue? If it goes unaddressed it truly shows that the media is in the bag for the democrats. And if sanders doesn't mention it, then he is in the beg for Hillary.

Not that I plan on giving myself that info by watching the debates.

"Let's watch the Democratic debate!"

OK, so I clicked over during a commercial while watching something else. Caught about 30 seconds of Sanders talking about paid family leave, then his time was up. As someone on the panel was starting to ask another question, Hillary burst in to say, "Senator, I've . . ." I could stand about five seconds of her and her voice before quickly changing to something else.

Hillary! doesn't even bother to show up on stage for the first question after the break. I'm sure she was receiving some free back-stage healthcare.

Ah, Amanda, "You Republicans are stuck with Trump..."

You might want to be a bit cautious, Amanda. The Republicans have four or five strong candidates aside from Trump, all of whom ALREADY poll even with or ahead of Clinton. Your Democrats are, on the other hand, the ones stuck with one candidate. Hillary. Trump is giving your side the giggles, I realize. I am not a big fan of him myself. But he's giving voice to a lot of very frustrated people whose anger is real and unaddressed by either party and who are going to have an impact one way or another. So far, they are having that impact as part of the diverse sprawling Republican field. It comforts your side to call it a clown car or circus or whatever. But it sure beats a party "stuck with" one very profoundly flawed candidate and a dwindling hold over every other part of government besides the White House. I'd be a bit less exuberant in my anticipation at this point in time if I were you. A lot of water to go over the falls yet till next November.

Is Bernie being paid by Clinton INC to perform debate cunnilingus on Hillary? Inquiring minds want to know. Why is the DNC even having debates? This matter was settled long ago.

Q: Do you really favor more gun control?
A: We need to form coalitions with American Muslims.

If Hillary hadn't married Bill Clinton she would be an administrator at a mid-sized school district in Illinois. It's pitiful when you think about it. Hillary knew Bill cheated on her, time and time and again, and when she was confronted with accusations of Bill's cheating she blamed and imaginary "Vast, right wing conspiracy."

If there is another attack in the US, Hillary is finished.

We’ve got a little less than a year to go until a new POTUS is elected. After reading about the San Bernardino attack for awhile I’m thinking the attack may be a relatively isolated incident.

Apparently Syed Farook had planned much earlier attacks but they never came off. What’s significant to me is that he had been meaning to attack for some time before San Bernardino and his marriage to Tashfeen Malik.

To me this means that the attack was not in the main the result of recent urgings of ISIS or his jihadi wife.

That in turn means ISIS was not the main factor in the decision since he had been planning an attack before the ISIS had the prestige that it would now seem to command with potential terrorists.

Furthermore I believe ISIS and the lure of terrorism probably does not have the same impact on American Muslims as it does in other parts of the world. Our Muslims are more likely to be much less militant than other Muslims. I’m thinking that it must be very difficult, even for ISIS, to convince from afar an American Muslim to do a San Bernardino.

The previous big terrorist act was the Boston Marathon bombing. That was in 2013. It’s almost 2016 now. That’s 2 or 3 years between significant terror attacks.

This could change if Muslims in America become a sizeable minority. We know the situation in Muslim-majority countries. There’s never much freedom in those countries. They are more in favor of jihad, misogyny is ever-present, strict rules of behavior are enforced violently, etc.

But to return to my point. Chances are no more major attacks between now and the inauguration.

The last thing I want is a one party state, it's always bad for the country. To the point where I am willing to vote for somebody I don't like over somebody I do just to keep one party from having too much dominance.

After watching the debate last night, all I can think is, thank god the Democrats still hold the House.

I found that part really interesting--all of a sudden gun control is a toxic issue they all dance around. Hillary's refusal to answer was most blatant, but I never thought I'd see the day that every single Democratic candidate tried to change the subject away from gun control.

Well, months after the fact. At the time, no. And her actions led to a lot of the issues.

"Amanda is Allie Oop, Inga, Annie,"

I wondered about that, but I'm inclined to believe Amanda isn't a sockpuppet because her arguments seem to be slightly more intelligent than Inga's, and she doesnt' try to make all the comments all about her, and how everybody is mean to her, the way Inga usually did.

On the other hand, Amanda could just post "Democrats GOOD, Republicans BAD" instead of all the words she strings together, and it would have the same effect and save everybody some effort.

This article in the Boston Globe describes fully the exciting atmosphere at the Democratic debate. A Saturday night debate in a hockey rink in sunny Manchester NH?!? These people are competing for the nomination for one of the most important elective offices in the world? They make the Green Party look like a political powerhouse. If the Dems won't take themselves seriously why do they expect us to?

A bit of classic Berno:

MUIR: Secretary, thank you.

Senator Sanders, I did want to ask you about a neighbor in San Bernardino who reportedly witnessed packages being delivered to that couple's home, that it set off red flags, but they didn't report it because they were afraid to profile. What would you say to Americans afraid to profile? Is it ever acceptable?

SANDERS: Well, the answer is, obviously, if you see suspicious activity, you report it. That's kind of a no-brainer. You know, somebody is loading guns and ammunition into a house, I think it's a good idea to call 911. Do it.

(LAUGHTER)

MUIR: But I'm asking about -- I'm asking about profiling. Because a lot of people are afraid of that.

SANDERS: But I want to talk -- I want to talk about something else, because Secretary Clinton I think made some interesting and good points. What you have now is a very dangerous moment in American history.

The secretary is right: Our people are fearful. They are anxious on a number of levels. They are anxious about international terrorism and the possibility of another attack on America. We all understand that.

But you know what else they're anxious about? They're anxious about the fact that they are working incredibly long hours, they're worried about their kids, and they're seeing all the new income and wealth -- virtually all of it -- going to the top 1 percent. And they're looking around them, and they're looking at Washington, and they're saying the rich are getting much richer, I'm getting poorer, what are you going to do about it? What are you going to do for my kids?

And somebody like a Trump comes along and says, "I know the answers. The answer is that all of the Mexicans, they're criminals and rapists, we've got to hate the Mexicans. Those are your enemies. We hate all the Muslims, because all of the Muslims are terrorists. We've got to hate the Muslims." Meanwhile, the rich get richer.

So what I say to those people who go to Donald Trump's rallies, understand: He thinks a low minimum wage in America is a good idea. He thinks low wages are a good idea.
