"Rad Sex Week fills a need in Montreal."

A headline in The McGill Daily that I first read in a tiny font that made it look like "Bad Sex Week fills a need in Montreal." But, anyway... what's the need for rad sex in Montreal? I'm reading this article so you won't have to. I'll summarize:

1. The need is for conversation about rad sex, which seems to relate to the fact that every person named in the article is female.

2. "Rad sex" does not include nonconsensual sex, and nonconsensual sex seems to be broadly construed by the Rad Sex Week folk who perceive the "sexual culture at McGill" as "pretty non-consensual." (It's also "very heteronormative and sexist.")

3. Radical sex and radical politics "give us a chance to really explore and be free."

4. A female playwright, performer, and sex activist named Cameryn Moore enthuses about "moving outside of the box" and "taking our sexuality outside of the box" seemingly without any awareness of the sexual double entendre of "box."

5. Moore is the founder of Sexploreum, "an immersive art-sex project," and she "is responsible" for an event called "the Masturbate-a-thon," which is "an annual solo sex play party, where it’s all genders, no touching anybody else." (I need a tag something like: It's an art project when you say it's an art project.)

6. The above-referenced artist informs us that sex "can transform people’s lives in a very serious way." Noted.

So, does this mean that the solution to "rape culture" would be"never withhold consent"? That way there would never be "nonconsensual sex."

I know, this is totally off the mark because I didn't read the article, but you said I didn't have to.

"Rad Sex", Huh? The idea that there is anything new or radical about sex is really snicker-worthy. Anyone who has researched the what folks did behind closed doors in the Victorian era knows that's not the case...

I read it as Red Sox week. I thought you were going to talk about baseball.

It's always about sex.

I'm sure I am quoting someone, don't know who:

"Every generation is sure that their the first generation to discover sex."

Ehh, your "bad art" tag covers it.

Does broadly construed mean construed by broads?

My previous comment was an art project.

I think you need a broadly construed tag. That would cover most of the claimed art projects.

I disagree. I don't know how numerous they are, but there's a very real strain of "radfem", radical feminist, that believes that ALL so-called "PIV" sex is rape, no matter the circumstances. PIV, by the way, standds for penis-in-vagina. It's all rape, full stop. Any arguments to the contrary are simply proof that the one making the argument has been successfully brainwashed by the patriarchy.

Add to this that the radfems are also in favor of "culling" male fetuses until the female to male human population is more in line with what they want, and I think you could argue that there's something radical about sex going on here.

I'm with Bill, I read it as "Red Sox" too. I thought maybe baseball would come back to Montreal, kind of like how the Bills used to play one football game per year in Toronto (that's been ended now, I hear).

Rad sex is apparently sex without men.

I read somewhare on teh interwebs that some "feminist" thinks all PIV is rape. google it, I had to. Crack makes sense compared to the person that wrote that.

Sexual outlaws, by definition, do not seek institutional approval or financial support for their activities from institutions.

These people aren't sexual outlaws or radicals. They are conformist and rent seekers.

They've organized, as women are wont to do, their activities into a complex set of rules and fashions.

Pretty funny.

I'd be interested in hearing more detail about how sex is sexist.

Are these people trying to otherize people who don't nonconform to their ideas about sex?

Whenever someone uses "radical" in a way that isn't a synonym for "really good," I know that I won't be able to follow the twists and turns of their rationalizations.

Three and a half decades of living in Woodstock, NY, among the sexual revolutionaries has made this obvious to me...

The sexual revolutionaries are always operating out of some sort of psychological pathology that makes it just about impossible for them to achieve sexual satisfaction within a consistent relationship with another person.

Instead of looking inward for the solution to what's troubling them, they invariable think that solving some societal problem is the answer.

I don't know but I've been told Canadian sex must be mighty cold.

Now we know why. Deprived Canadian college freshmen have no organized organ usage teaching in group settings.

I have had a lot of sex in Montreal.

Fucking love Montreal.

One of North America's most fab cities.

I think a lot of this behavior is driven by a desire to "shock the straights" where straight is defined as bourgeois, not gay.

Since that is increasingly difficult to do, given the now middle-class more that judging others is intolerant and not to be tolerated, their behavior has to become even more outrageous.

I'm not sure "radical politics" as presented by those types has ever once freed anyone.

(Also, what Thomas said.

You're not a radical when you're getting institutional funding and that's all you do*.

You're a rent-seeker, at best.

* Not that real radicals can't take the Establishment's money; Lenin would have been happy to take the Tsar's to build his Revolution, for instance.

But these guys aren't Lenins.)

No need to click. My psychic powers tell me this person is 1) very fat, and 2) dressed like a goon. Be amazed at my inexplicable predictive abilities.

Apparently, nobody wants to be "inside" Ms. Moore's box!

It's a misprint. It's a celebration of Bad Sex. It's time for the people who engage in bad sex to come out of the closet and announce themselves. You can tell just by looking at her that Carolyn knows more about Bad Sex than Rosie O'Donnell could possibly imagine.
