"Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light."

Harold Ramis has died (of a rare disease, at the age of 69).

ADDED: "Print is dead."

I loved the deadpan performance Ramis gave as Egon Spengler. "Well, let's say this Twinkie represents the normal amount of psychokinetic energy in the New York area. Based on this morning's sample, it would be a Twinkie... thirty-five feet long, weighing approximately six hundred pounds."

Protons aren't all that stable, either.

One in your body will turn to a pion and an antimuon in your lifetime.

Sad to see him go. He was a great talent in several areas.

Very sad. He's written and acted in some of my favorite movies. Ghostbusters is probably my personal favorite movie of all time.

R.I.P. and thanks for all the laughs......

A co-worker just told me the most appropriate In Memoriam toast to give:

With one hand, raise the glass. Then with the other, mime throwing the ghost trap and stomping the activation pedal. Ghostbusters fans will recognize what I'm talking about here.

Here's to you, Egon (holds glass high, pause, throws trap and stomps).

As much as I love Ghostbusters, I think his most enduring legacy will be Groundhog Day. The most amazing mix of humor, seriousness, sincerity, and morality, perhaps a perfect film.

Very sad. My age, (yikes!) His talents were very underutilized by the film industry....

Groundhog day was a fine film. It struck me more as a thought experiment than a comedy, with the conclusion being that virtue for virtue's sake is the most rewarding way to live.

Along with all the other well deserved accolades for Groundhog Day, is that it must have been made for much less than a conventional movie of its type.

The variations which represent the way Bill Murray's character evolves over time could all have been shot--I presume they were--all at once for each set. The actors, the set and their costumes are the same; they just say different lines. There must have been big cost savings on the production.

Groundhog Day is a classic.

dbp - in that sense Groundhog Day was like an extended stage improvisation.

Recruiter: "Are either of you homosexuals?"

Bill Murray: "You mean flaming?"

Harold Ramis: "Nah, we're not homosexuals, but we are willing to learn."

Classic!

No, it won't. The half life of a proton, if it has one, is greater than 10^33 years.

I ran into him a few times. Nice guy. Always seemed to have a slightly mischievous smile on his face. I wished he'd been in front of the camera more.

He'll be missed but remembered fondly.

From Stripes, perfectly deadpan:

"I've always been kind of a pacifist. When I was a kid, my father told me, 'Never hit anyone in anger, unless you're absolutely sure you can get away with it.' I don't know what kind of soldier I'm gonna make, but I want you guys to know that if we ever get into really heavy combat...I'll be right behind you guys. Every step of the way."
