"Harvard Dean Steps Down Following Secret Searches of E-Mail Accounts."

"Evelynn M. Hammonds, dean of Harvard College, the university's main undergraduate division,... found herself at the center of a scandal-within-a-scandal after trying to plug a leak in a university inquiry into a cheating debacle that prompted dozens of undergraduates to withdraw from the college."
Ms. Hammonds and Michael D. Smith, dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, last fall authorized searches of the e-mail accounts of 16 resident deans without informing them first.

The resident deans, faculty members who reside in undergraduate housing and oversee the students who also live there, sit on a committee charged with investigating the cheating scandal. Ms. Hammond and Mr. Smith suspected that one resident dean had leaked confidential information about the investigation to the news media, according to The Boston Globe.

Those suspicions turned out to be correct....

The real news is that somebody is still overseeing the students.

Evelynn M. Hammonds is a colored woman.

Unlike Eric Evelynn lacked a still higher up protector.

She does history of science and African-American studies. That's two things that don't normally pop up together.

But, she goes on teaching ever less important and more irrelevant courses.
And the students and deans pick up the pieces. And the next time it will be easier to do until it's routine.

Harvard is racist!

She can get a job as advisor to Obama and Eric Holder, since she knows how to read other people's e-mail and she's the correct race and so is above suspicion about everything.

Next, she will be working for the Obama administration.

Btw, what does "step down" really mean? Is she still on the payroll?

Boy lefties really do not believe in privacy, and are authoritarian at every turn, aren't they?

Read the article for what step down means. LOL.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Professor, but didn't Roe v. Wade hinge on a constitutional right to privacy?

So if lefties like Holder and Hammonds don't recognize the right of privacy does that mean Roe v. Wade can be overturned?

Just askin'

"Ms. Hammonds will head a new program at Harvard to study the intersection of race, science, and medicine."

Surely she can broaden her inquiry to include class and gender?

Some Harvard faculty may lack originality ("race, class, gender"?) but surely they are inclusive.

Ms. Hammonds, who is a professor of the history of science and of African-American studies, will return to her faculty post following a sabbatical, Harvard officials said on Tuesday in a news release, which enumerated Ms. Hammonds's achievements as dean and made no mention of the e-mail scandal.

When she returns, officials said, Ms. Hammonds will head a new program at Harvard to study the intersection of race, science, and medicine.

^ That folks, is "affirmative action" in practice. Can't fire the ignorant, angry, email snooping black woman.

Nope, give her a new program.

Why in the hell would you shell out $55,000 per year to send your kid to Harvard?

It would be fun to know the opinions regarding the email searches of FoxNews by the DOY by the Harvard faculty impacted by this.

I predict cognitive dissonance followed by heaps of rationalization.

------------------------------

She should narrow it down a bit. How about, "Race and Quantum Mechanics" or "Race and String Theory"?

Wait a minute.... The dean that was caught leaking information to the media used their university account to do it?! I thought Harvard was supposed to hire intelligent people.

Big Mike:

Alleged cheating is a far graver violation of institutional integrity than acts of elective abortion are a violation of human and civil rights.

As for the Left, liberalism is unprincipled, progressivism is unqualified, and the central feature of left-wing ideology is that it is selective.

Three-way intersections are a bitch.

""Ms. Hammonds will head a new program at Harvard to study the intersection of race, science, and medicine.""

If you do the Venn diagram, the set that comprises the intersection would not be allowed to be discussed.

Exactly.

First she goes on sabbatical (that is, Re-education camp) and then comes back chastened and pure.

she's been moved, but nobody will ever trust her again.

There's room under the bus for him, don't worry.

Perhaps in her new program that studies the intersection of race, science, and medicine, she can investigate the consequences of having the great majority of African-Americans descended from the losing tribes in the African past. Descendants of losers may have an entirely explicable predilection for collectivism.

Wait, doesn't Harvard a published policy on email privacy?

If the emails belong to Harvard (generally, the legal default) then why was this woman let go if she was within her purview to go through Harvard-owned "documents" (the users' email)? If Harvard permits its email users an assumption of privacy, then how & why did the IT department perform this search? Who signed off on the search permit in both Administration & IT? Why aren't they being fired, too?

Note to liberal leaders: just don't get caught.

Now when in govt will feel the same sense of shame and responsibility to resign over similar or greater transgressions? Nah!

@Chip,

Thanks for the link. But, even after reading the link. things come across as more muddled for email at Harvard than one might like.

Never even realized that...but good point.

This story reminded me of Inspector Lebel in “The Day of the Jackal” where he announced at a meeting of big shots that he had discovered the leaker by tapping his phone. The big shots gave sighs of relief and then one of the Ministers asked the Inspector a question and the Inspector responded:

Minister: "There is one thing: how did you know whose telephone to tap?”

Inspector: “I didn't, so I tapped all of them.”

In fact, it's no secret that Evelynn M. Hammonds is a lesbian colored woman...a threefer...which is possibly why the university is creating a special program just for her, perhaps a reward for having been a great dean.

If only Dr. Ms. Hammonds were a disabled veteran as well. Think of the boxes Harvard could have checked off!

A more esteemed Hammonds recently died: John Q. Hammonds, the real estate/hotel magnate.
