Yay, Mark Stein today hosting Rush, and maybe next week too.

Rush has sucked recently.

The listener calls have been even more awful, causing a volume shutdown.

Stein at least can argue with listeners.

In talking to callers, as Imus long ago pointed out, Rush is deeply stupid.

"Rush has sucked recently."

He's been hinting at medical problems.

If you like Stein, the Derbyshire podcast is good once a week (new Saturdays, or late Fridays if you know the url system) Radio Derb

At some point, he won't be able to go on.

Steyn is better than him these days, but I'll bet Steyn wouldn't be able to cause people to bond to him over the long run the way Rush has.

Rush is more addictive for a lot of the kind of people who want to have someone in space (house/car/workplace) talking to them all the time. That's radio.

Okay, I subscribed to Derb Radio on Taki Magazine.

"We" are living in a giant womb. Just look at the Yin-Yang symbol, and tell me it doesn't look like:

1) a pregnant belly
2) with a fetus inside.

Light in the dark. Dark in the light.

Further, a synonym for womb is matrix. We are living in the matrix. Arghhh!

See here: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/matrix

Consider as well that a fetus sleep about 16 hours a day. A mother sleeps about 8 hours a day. Sum: 24 hours. Get it?

Perhaps the most convincing bit of data is Geico's recent decision to decline to provide me with motorcycle insurance. Their decision was ostensibly based on the rather strange consequences that followed about $1.50 in unpaid tolls. On one hand, yes, I really wanted a motorcycle. On the other hand, I can understand why someone wouldn't want me (of all feti) riding about her physical or mental insides on a Harley.

If you really really like Derb, I have the url's for all the radio Derbs back through 2006, if NRO doesn't delete them.

Studied gloom would be the genre.

The movements of the most decent? beast to ever trot on the face of the earth is associated with flight of fancy, screwball, kooks.

There something not right about that.

Here's a poem:

For years I dug in the earth
trying to discover the blue sky
deeper and deeper I tunnelled
until one night
I made stones and tiles fly into the air
with no effort I broke the bone of the void

The poet is Muso Soseki, Japenese, 1275-1351

The translation is by W.S. Merwin

Blind Charlotte hiker’s ‘senses’ guide him on unprecedented trip

The Charlotte man and his female black Lab have forded rain-swollen rivers, crossed the summit of 6,684-foot-high Mount Mitchell and camped in damp fields. They’re on an extraordinary quest to hike the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, a 950-mile ramble from the Smoky Mountains to the Outer Banks.

Thomas clicks his tongue or taps his trekking pole and listens for echoes that form a mental outline of objects. “I can tell you there’s a tree there, a car there, the side of a cliff,” he said at Hanging Rock State Park north of Winston-Salem.

How about that... more proof of a trekking pole's unambiguous aid while on the trail.

Should one succumb to say an spontaneous loss of vision... all is not lost... if you have a trekking pole at the ready.

I hate it when Khan steals Melville’s line: …to the last I grapple with thee; from hell's heart I stab at thee; for hate's sake I spit my last breath at thee.

The American Hikaru Nakamura (2777) scored a terrific win against Vasily Topalov (2780) at the Thessaloniki Grand Prix. It's a very strong tournament and the current leaders are actually the other American participant, Gata Kamsky (2757) and Fabiano Caruana (2786), who is American but plays under Italian flag I believe.

In any case, get out there and root for the Americans, friends. Nakamura may not be able to win this tournament but it's within Kamsky's grasp.

Check out this hamburger, if you like. It has bacon with its grease and Parmigiano and cooked onion and cooked minced garlic mixed in it. So, a bacon cheeseburger with onion and garlic.

With a bun made specifically for it.
