"A sex-ed teacher seduced her eighth-grade student after he said he had a problem with his manhood and she demanded to see it..."

"Marlena Mints, 31, allegedly performed oral sex on the 13-year-old in her classroom during recess at Bessie Coleman Middle School in Cedar Hill, near Dallas."

Is the word "seduced" — used by The Daily News — appropriate?

That's a tough one to parse out. What is missing that would make it definitely seduction?

Women obviously shouldn't be teaching children. They're worse than Roman Catholic priests!

Sounds like Cartman and Ms. Choksondik

Looking at her photograph, I think her name should be Marlena "Wafer-Thin" Mints.

That's a minority opinion - 5% maybe.

Abused not seduced

Your kid is more likely to be molested by a union teacher than a Catholic priest.

Especially if it's a horny lame kid.

Seduction implies the desire is like a boulder on top of a hill that only needs a push to get going, then rolls on it's own. I'd say 8-10years old is right about where that boulder shows up.

Even beyond the mental issues required to molest children, who performs oral sex on someone who says there's something wrong with his penis?

And by the way, the term seduced is used in reference to another person. So Althouse is testing whether we follow links as a follow up to her realization we don't watch video.

How about "stuffing her face?"

Btw If you drive into O'hare airport you will pass Bessie Coleman Drive. Bessie was a black aviatrix who was thrown from her stunt plane and fell two thousand feet to her death. Of course Butch O'Hare was a WWII hero who was shot down during the war.
I wonder if jittery fliers would be more jittery knowing this.

Mints was arrested and charged with one count of aggravated sexual assault of a child and two counts of improper relationship with students.

That was funny to me... I don't know what exactly. Palladians comment is giving me a hint.

The 13-year-old reportedly said he had a problem with his penis, to which she said she "needed to see it" and asked him to come into her class.
Telling investigators he thought it would be alright as she was his sex-ed teacher, he exposed himself — which is when Mints allegedly performed oral sex.

Problem solved.

More like 13, unless the kid eats oysters with every meal.

Mints breath had a pleasant aroma, and her technique was slightly nutty reminiscent of my breaststrokes from earlier that morning at the school Olympic swimming pool.

The idea of a cop at every school was branded as 'armed camp' tactics by 'gun control' advocates... and yet, the idea of sex education to minors is somehow... uplifting.

sorry.

Does "seduce" in this context imply a communication between equals?

Um. I did.

However, it does, at least somewhat, go both ways. If I were to flirt with a woman at work, there is a decent chance that she would take offense and report me to HR. But, if I looked like and had the smile of George Clooney, there is a better chance that she would swoon for me.

I am not complaining. Not looking like George Clooney makes being faithful that much easier!

Absolutely. He might think it's no big deal, so I hope someone can convince him that actually his life has been devastated and he wIlll need many years of intensive and expensive therapy before he can make even a partial recovery from this horror.

Seriously, folks, what the h*ll else did you expect? Just having the position elevates sexual activity to a normal part of the school day. Why do you think he texted her at first? Because he had a question of a sexual nature and had been told she was an authority figure who would answer any questions he had on the subject

Once he was alone with her, 13 and loaded with hormones? Pretty much all of my 8th grade class (at least the male portion) would have jumped at the chance. Rape? It is to laugh.

By the way, when is any Democrat going to acknowledge that there is a nationwide, systemic problem of teachers sexually assaulting students in our nation's public schools?

Because as a student you're about 10,000 times more likely to be sexually assaulted than shot, and Democrats are all for the children and stuff, right?

It is astonishing how many female teachers sexually abuse underage boys, it seems like every week there is another one caught. Since the consequences are so severe for the teacher (bye bye teaching career, hello felony, probable jail time, and lifetime status as a sexual offender), I guess most of the offenders are pretty obsessed with underage boys to take such a crazy risk.

Maybe we should be testing teachers to try to screen out the perps.

SGT Ted said...

Sexual Assault of a 13 YO boy; joke worthy or just to be dismissed.

The War on Boys continues, with posters here explaining away a sexual assault by claiming he wanted it, that every boy just naturally wants a blowjob from a fat pig of a teacher twice their age. All boys are just hot little sluts and should be violated by an adult at the soonest opportunity. They like it.

Nevermind that to boys of 13, 31 years and fat is an OLD FAT LADY.

When it happens to your child, come tell us how great it was.

Especially if you have a girl child. She's 13, he was 31? She wanted it. Girls like sex. There's no victim there.

Renee said...

"Especially if you have a girl child. She's 13, he was 31? She wanted it. Girls like sex. There's no victim there."

I was having a conversation with an older relative, and basically that is how 'back in the day' they defended the crime.

"She lead him on."

How could a victim come forward, knowing that she would be blamed?

When did we decide that sex is the worst thing that can happen to a kid? Why is sex criminalized? Can we no longer distinguish between shouldn't have done that and teachers shouldn't have sex with kids so we'll fire her and something that deserves prison time?

What is more difficult for this kid to overcome--sex with his teacher or the very public insistence that something awful happened to him?

Ill-considered sex should not call for prison time. Nor should it land the teacher--and the boy--on national news.

And don't get me started on the sex offender registry.

You have got to be fucking kidding me.

They haven't criminalized sex; they have criminalized rape and sexual assault.

If you don't think a 31 YO fat old lady sexually assaulting a 13 YO boy is a crime, well what a sad sick person you are.

If it were a 31 y/o Victoria's Secret model, would it still be sexual assault? Or is it assault only if the kid is embarrassed to admit it later?

It is possible that it was sexual assault. It is also possible that it was just a blowjob. I don't have any idea; I wasn't there. But the age and weight of the teacher don't determine what it is.

Brian Brown said...

Marie said...

Did the current age of consent prevent this woman from having "sexual access" to this boy?

TMink said...

Marie wrote: "It is also possible that it was just a blowjob."

No that is not possible, this was a minor that was assaulted. He was below the age of consent, this violates the laws we have that prohibit adults from having sex with minors. Consent is not an issue.

Marie, are you really that ignorant of our laws?

And most people, boys and girls, who are perpetrated in this manner live a life of sexual difficulty. The difficulties range from difficulty having consensual sex, what we call frigidity, to difficulties having indiscriminate sex that causes them repetitive problems at work and in relationships, we call this sexual addiction.

But really, Marie, are these concepts so foreign and new to you?

Marie said...

Adults should not be having sex with children nor did I ever say it should be acceptable. I assume that everyone is appalled by what happened.

If we are worried about how the blowjob affects this boy, I am suggesting that the public uproar is more damaging to him than the act itself was.

Brian Brown said...

Yeah, I should walk back my too-casual attitude there but I was thinking of how a kid might see it. This woman and her activities only came to light after one of the students bragged about what happened.

Chip S. said...

Not as far as I'm concerned. I'd welcome that, and decline similar servicing from that hideous cow of a teacher.

You see, Marie, that involves consent, the absence of which is what defines sexual assault.

Steve Koch said...

Marie,

Your attitude is not just too casual, you are just flat out wrong, way wrong. You should study the negative psychological impacts of abusing children sexually before making any more comments on the sexual abuse of children.

Marie wrote: "If we are worried about how the blowjob affects this boy, I am suggesting that the public uproar is more damaging to him than the act itself was."

Oh, sorry I misunderstood. Please forgive me.

The research on the matter shows that it is not the act alone that predicts how damaging perpetration is, but how the relationships between the parties mitigate or increase the trauma. The worst relational configuration is if the victim has a positive relationship with the perpetrator, significant others have a positive view of and relationship with the perp, and significant others have a negative view of/relationship with the victim.

The best outcomes reverse those relationships. So the honest answer to your question is, well it depends!

If the victim takes the negative reactions of the public as supportive, it helps. If he feels shame thinking that people know who he is and blame him or think he is a doofus, then it hurts.

And again, sorry for misunderstanding where you were coming from.

It is true that a minuscule minority of homosexual priests abused young adolescent boys. The fact that the numbers are so small is no excuse. One is too many.

But many, many, many more are abused every year by unionized teachers. It happens so often that most times it doesn't even make the papers. It only is an issue because it is a woman. Otherwise it would be business as usual for public education.
