2 explosions at the Boston Marathon finish line: "I saw people’s legs blown off. Horrific.... Runners were coming in and saw unspeakable horror."

"Eyewitnesses at the scene said there were two loud explosions about five seconds apart, and emergency vehicles crowded the scene. Up to 60 people have been reported injured, dozens of them seriously."

Surely the press will try to pin it on the TEA party because of the tax day correlation.

A gas-leak explosion would force Wolf Blitzer to focus his not insignificant journalistic prowess on whether or not Boston Central has been paying their corporate taxes.

The worst injured are spectators, not runners. There's video at NRO where you can see the explosion behind the barricade. A couple of runners drop but don't appear seriously injured. But apparently three are dead and one lost his legs (possibly one of the three).

We need to wait until the facts are in. It could be something as simple as a gas line explosion. Or a personal vendetta.

We can wait to see what really happened before we get all crazy.

Let's put some of those FBI guys on it that are investigating Benghazi. They know how to get right to the bottom of a problem.

>>I hope the catch the bastards responsible - but an explosion from beneath the sidewalk suggests a gas leak, maybe?

There were TWO explosions; unlikely that its a gas leak.

The UK Daily Mail says the following "A source who was speaking with authorities told MailOnline that there were shotgun shells in two explosions, which sprayed onlookers and runners with massive amounts of shrapnel, though the statement has not been confirmed by authorities."

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2309545/Boston-Marathon-explosion-Dozens-reported-injured-device-goes-near-finish-line.html

Plus the police right now are doing controlled explosions of packages in the area so they must have a strong suspicion of terrorism.

Gas and steam explosions are not all that common in Boston but neither are they rare. Anecdotally and without looking it up for sure I would say several times a year. If a car is parked atop the manhole its usually destroyed. So if the manhole cover goes off in the direction of people its going to do some horrifying damage.

I'd ignore the speculative reporters and wait on this one a bit.

Over 100 injured.

I'll jump the gun. Twelve years ago in 2001, 16-17 terrorists pulled off the 911 hijackings. Most had overstayed their visas but were still running free and so were able to do their terrorist work.

If we asked Janet Napolitano how many "overstayed visas" there were today and how many were from Arab countries, I bet she would be unable to give us accurate numbers. My point is WTF are they doing in DC ? Because they are sure not doing their jobs.

Oh goody!"

There are lots of things Americans do really well.

Over-reaction?

Especially by governments?

We're the best.

There must be some sort of reason they do that, since they did the exact same thing on 9/11. You had to find a land line to call anyone...

The reason it happened on 9/11/01 was because of call volume, not because the system was "shut down".

I'm not sure I believe the Boston shut-down story.

Early on, after the second blast I saw a cop running away from it, pulling his gun.

Protect and serve, bacon boy!

If someone has said this then my apologies. But what about the NORK's?

These cops are out of control. Shutting off cell phone service? Somebody has to get fired for that. You can't stop people from communicating with their families at a time like this. It is unbelievable.

What a fuck up.

Cell phone service shut down in Boston to prevent any remote controlled detonations through the use of cellphones.

That's how AQ detonated the bombs aboard the Madrid commuter trains in 2004. Seems like a prudent precaution.

Federal intelligence agents have told CBS News that there was no indication that any sort of attack was planned for Boston.

There's our great Federal government, protecting us as usual!

Guys,

Sitting here in my office in the Prudential Center (just about ground zero). I have cell service and plan on taking public transportation (the T) home in about an hour or so. Things aren't quite chaotic as the media is making out.

I thought the problem on 9/11 was that there were a lot of relay antennas on top of the WTC towers, which obviously went offline when the towers fell.

I read some twitter pages via the web. It's funny to see some of these ultra lib boston media people just mad as all get out, "these cowards need to be held accountable" and so forth.

Conservatives are liberals who've been mugged, yeah?

Chaos makes a much better story!

And I get to fly tomorrow morning. Yay.

Godspeed.

It is a load of bullshit. If the bombs were going to go off when cellphones were used they would already have gone off. They closed the door when the fucking horse is miles away.

I think the cell phone shut down is an AP fantasy.

That was a part of the problem, but it was mostly because of an unprecedented volume of calls on a system that was still in its relative infancy.

Typical of the news media fucking it up.

But it is a toss up as to who lies the most.

The cops or the media.

We won't know the truth for weeks. If ever.
