"An ancient marble sculpture of the god Pan (a part-human, part-goat figure) having sex with a she-goat is not to be segregated..."

"... as it has been since its discovery in 1752, but displayed openly with the other exhibits – a liberal move by London, if also one which dulls the object's impact. Getting this story into the news ensures that centuries of censorship are not swept under the carpet, and that Pan, and the show he speaks for, remain 'hot property.'"

Say what you will about porn and censorship through the ages, I just want to observe that it's not bestiality to have sex with a goat when you are a goat.

Isn't a god having sex with a mortal (human or goat) a form of bestiality?

It's all so confusing. Must be just half a felony.

Or does this show the tendency for some to allow their sexuality to become animalistic?

No longer truly and authentically human, they have reduced themselves to the state of animals.

By all means, a copy of the statue should be displayed in museums all around the world.

How can we be certain the she-goat isn't Zeus on the down-low?

Fascinating.

I wonder about our ancestors. Did they really think about life the same way that we do? I would say not, their minds and thought patterns were totally different from what we think, and how we think.

But that is not to say that they were all fools.

It was the goat half having the sex, so it's OK, but has anybody noticed that's a fresco and not a statue in the picture.

I knew English Lefties were dense, but...

I am reminded of an old cartoon of a centaur who has just entered a meadow, where there is a charming nude maiden on side, and a fetching mare on the other side.

They're being capricious.

Reminds me of a small statue in the museum labelled "Hercules with a Nymph" or some such innocuous description. I'd say Hercules was not just with the Nymph, he was in her.
