"I'm a lot like Baby Huey. I'm fat. I'm ugly. But if you push me down, I keep coming back."

So said President Bill Clinton (in 1993).

Remember Baby Huey?
He would see his peers playing, and would immediately get excited. Whenever he tried to involve himself in the activities of his peers (also anthropomorphic ducklings) he would often inadvertently cause more problems, and as a result they would drive him away through trickery (and into tears). A hungry fox would show up, originally intending to eat Huey's peers, but upon seeing Huey as a bigger meal and overhearing the distraught duck's desires to play with someone, would feign friendship and set traps along the way, all of which would prove ineffective on Huey and/or backfire on the fox. At first Huey was blissfully unaware of the fox's true agenda. But as his peers watched the annoyed fox in action from a safe distance (and fearing for his safety just as they did their own), Huey would come to realize the truth about his predator and dispose of him, usually by saying: "Hey, you! You're the fox! And I think you're trying to kill me!", and would finish the fox.
Bizarre for a President of the United States to equate himself to that!

It seems to be a rare moment of honest self-analysis for Bill.

4 years later, he was trying to convince everybody he was still relevant.

The world's biggest attention whore and at least as incompetent a POTUS as our current one. Unfortunately, there are some "Conservatives" and "Libertarians" who actually believe all the media propaganda about how he was a Centrist and a pragmatist and left the country in good shape when all he did was sweep an incredible mess under the rug for his successor to clean up.

Bugs Bunny v. Elmer Fudd is more apropos for Pres. Clinton.

"Blissfully unaware" applies about as well to Bill Clinton as does "faithfully married"; however the weight-based self reference isn't out of character. Pres. Clinton once referred to himself as the big boy in the husky jeans when discussing his hard life growing up.

That must be a popular cartoon if you have a diaper fetish. As some people actually do, which makes me grateful for having a nice wholesome fetish.

I don't think that Clinton had a happy childhood.

His step-father was abusive, apparently.

Whether Willie actually stood up to him and ordered him out of the house is up for grabs.

I think if he'd had the sand in his craw to do something like that, nobody would have called him, "Slick Willie" later in life.

The context of this quote is kind of interesting. The media had spent the whole 1992 election crowing about how young and handsome Clinton and Gore were only for Clinton to show up in Washington as a blimp. That was the genesis for the Bill Hartman skit where he eats all the McDonald's customers food will talking about Somalia. Intercepted by warlords.

Was there ever a time when Clinton wasn't at the center of attention (early election loss in Ark, the 1988 convention speech, maybe)?

If anything, Clinton was the fox to Paul Tsongas's Baby Huey in the 1992 primary, although many at the time compared the latter to Eeyore the donkey.

Excellent point.

I remember 'Baby Hughie' the guy with the soul band from Chicago - late 60s to mid 70s.

So the old horndog has been making up all his life for feelings of inferiority in the looks department? It's possible.

Bill was always a quick study as a politician. After the Republicans won the House in '94 and then pushed for welfare reform Clinton fought it tooth and nail until he saw that he couldn't block reform and then suddenly it was his idea and *presto change-o* with the help of the media welfare reform became a Clinton initiative with Republicans bringing up the rear.

After the convention, Saint Hope and Change wanted to nominate Bubba to be the Secretary of Explainin Stuff! Good choice!

I suspect much of your surprise is cultural. At the time and place of the president's youth (the south in the 60's and 70's), "baby huey" was a fairly common, playfully critical way to refer to a goodhearted oaf.

Well, Clinton has been a moral and probably a physical coward his whole life. So I bet he was bullied in grade school and that name "Baby Huey" was a common one attached to big, soft Momma's boys. Maybe that actually was his nickname at one time?

There was also a black rock artist in the late 60's who called himself "Baby Huey". Heroin death.
