Did the Manskis target Ananda Mirilli?

This is very intra-Madison, but worth paying attention to. David Blaska reports, based on talking to Mirilli, that Sarah Manski was recruited to run against Mirilli and "the Manskis spread a rumor that [Mirilli] was recruited by the Great Right Conspiracy to run as a stalking horse for school vouchers."
Forty-eight hours after taking out the troublesome minority candidate – her job accomplished – Sarah Manski withdrew from the race, assured that the school board would appoint “somebody good” if it came to that....

The Manski campaign was fueled by plenty of big-name Democrats, including the Democrat(ic) leaders in the Wisconsin State Assembly and Senate, Peter Barca and Chris Larson, even though they’re from Kenosha and Milwaukee, respectively....

They couldn't possibly trust voters, huh?

Chicago rules are metastasizing. At least a divorce with sealed records wasn't involved.

No ethics, no honor. The left wing is a metastasizing cancer on our society.

the funny thing, is these folks are merely useful fools in the revolution. they ultimately are dispensed with because when their dreams are finally dashed, they can't be left hanging around.

THANK YOU UW for not admitting Male Manski to your program!! What a slap in the face for him!

Best part, Sarah Manski's snark about her (former) supporters will follow her around like a giant millstone around her neck.

Nothing is forever, except when it's on the internet.

What a blow to the arrogant Manskis that the UW didn't think husband Ben was PhD-program material. I'm sure they had their Madison future all planned out: he in the PhD program, she on the school board, both employed by the execrable excuse for a journalist John Nichols...the ultimate Madison power couple.

It's interesting watching the Madison lefties turn on Sarah Manski. She certainly deserves any criticism she gets, and whatever elected-office aspirations she might have anywhere, anytime, have been severely compromised if not destroyed by this debacle. Too bad, so sad.

It's especially fun to watch the Madison left suddenly go on the "person of color" rant about Ananda Mirilli, the only non-white in the race. Suddenly they are supporting her, after she finished a distant third in the primary, when before, Manski was the "golden girl".

Not surprising to those of us with brains that the Madison left initially rejected Mirilli, after what they did to the Madison Prep proposal and after the way they, the school board, and MTI don't seem to care about the HUGE racial achievement gap in the Madison public schools.

It's also been fun watching S. Manski delete any remotely critical comments from her campaign's Facebook page, while at the same time claiming she values "honesty and transparency". What a liar.

Boo-hoo. Madisonians are getting the government they deserve, so fuck them. Sad for the kids though.

As you said, inside Madison. Can't tell the players without a program.

I was just looking at my new year resolutions which I forgot I had made. One was "try to be nicer to people especially dumb, hateful libruls". What could I have been thinking when I made those resolutions?

Mirilli's just announced she will NOT stage a write-in campaign. That leaves TJ Mertz as the only viable candidate. But Manski's name will remain on the ballot.

This, on the same day the Government (Un)Accountability Board announced it failed to purge the voter rolls of ineligible voters, as it was legally required to do, and won't get to it until after the spring elections, which include a state-wide race for state Supreme Court justice. What a coincidence.

I wonder if Manski will win nevertheless, allowing the school board to appoint "somebody good"?

Garage likes to rail against the Koch's supposedly hidden influence, but this is union electioneering right out in plain sight. The Democrat coalition recruited, funded, and promoted a candidate they knew would not serve just to ensure a minority woman wouldn't appear on the final ballot. Truly shameful.

In his book of true stories, 'The Great Taos Bank Robbery"
(buy it here), Tony Hillerman includes the story 'Mr. Luna's Lazarus Act', where Mr. Luna was facing an uphill battle to retain his seat in the New Mexico House of Representatives during the upcoming primary. Luna, by brilliance or luck, convinced (i.e., paid) enough extra Democrats to run against him to split-off votes from his strongest opponents - just enough so that Luna garnered a plurality of votes, and then held his seat through the general election as well.
Fascinating story of local politics.
