What's the difference between a page view, and a visit??

Many congrats, Madame.

As I've said several times, you work very hard on the blog and it shows.

Clicking as fast as I can.

Sitemeter includes a map documenting the location of recent visitors. You even have visitors from Europe.

Kewl!

My most sincere thanks and congratulation, Ann.

You've found a calling equal to your talents and intellect.

I will try to remember to make my online purchases through your portal. I'm a forgetful Old Dawg!

I hope it's not like old odometers, going from 99,999,999 to 99,9/0 9/0 9/0, 000.

I assume a "visit" based on IP address appearing in the server log during a given period and "pageviews" is visits to the particular page?

Better a milestone than a millstone.

Wowza.

I ordered the movie The Tree of Life via the Althouse-to-Amazon tag team.

I am fond of Terrence Malick films like The Red Line, and this one looks very good.

I think you owe Jessica Valenti credit for about half of those.

Does the 100 millionth viewer get a prize?

"Clicking as fast as I can."

Well, that is the difference between page views and visits.

You have to go away for some length of time before your next click will be perceived as a visit.

Every time you click from page to page, like to go into a comments section, it counts as a page view.

I'm embarrassed to say this, but half of them are probably mine.

Not at all. What you're referring to is a blog swarm intended to destroy me that occurred in 2006 after I took a swipe at what was the emergence of the Hillary Clinton campaign and its effort to coopt bloggers.

Liberal bloggers decided I had to be hated, and that has suppressed my liberal readership ever since. I'm to be considered toxic and it's unfortunate, because I think they would enjoy a lot of what I'm saying.

The amazing thing is that so many conservatives continue to read me over the years, when I have disappointed them so many times -- voting for Obama (in '08), supporting ssm and abortion rights, etc. etc.

Congrats.
Something 99+% of bloggers will never see. For good reason.

Yes Ann, I was kidding you. That incident perfectly illustrated why you've been so successful, in my opinion.

Will you award the 1,000,000th page viewer an Althouse Coffee Mug with the motto, "the only sin is to be boring?"

edutcher said...

No, it will have "The Conservatives' Lovable Liberal"

Earned the blog $0.80. Thanks!

Thanks. I was more concerned with everyone liking me up until then, so it helped me in that it toughed me. I had to let go of the idea that no one could hate me. It was very liberating, and although it was unpleasant, it got me through a portal that I wished I'd crossed through when I was about 14 years old.

(Sometime over the weekend, if the average per day is somewhat applicable. Perhaps Monday, if the visits taper off outside working hours...)

Wow. Who knew? Many Conservatives can converse with someone even if they don't agree, wholly or in part. Progressive liberals of today cannot manage this in my experience. I the loudest shrieking drool spittle flinging rage over the simplest idea opposed to anything they want examples in my recent memory have been progressive liberals...aka the New Democrats.

So far I manage to read liberal viewpoints here, even when they piss me off, without running outside looking to slap somebody's momma. In some cases I think I've even managed to learn something from some of the liberals here. Yes, there are at least two liberal exceptions, and at least one pseudo-conservative Moby, who are pure horse-shit of the first order and never intend conversation, just recrimination.

Everybody needs someone to hate, right? Or at least wish they'd fall in a cess pool? :-))

A good salon is a good salon. Or is it more like a speakeasy? With some really fine photography. (How can I be disappointed if I disagree with you about just about everything, not just your forays into "progressive" causes?)

And your blogging productivity blows me away. Thanks.

And half of the left over half are mine.

If only I had a nickel... I would have a nickel not worth a nickel.

Tosh. If you're liberal, you're one who isn't doctrinaire. And if you're conservative... well, same thing. You're a unique flavor.
