Riding the Capital City Trail.

It was amazing to be able to go on a 20+-mile bike ride on the 2d of December in Madison, Wisconsin, but we did it, and it was easy. About 50°. Meade had the GoPro HD HERO2: Outdoor Edition strapped to his helmet, and he edited the trip down to 15 minutes. It's a silent movie, so I recommend playing some music of your own. This is the trail we ride over and over throughout the year, and the video shows what it's like:

Amazing how green Wisconsinis at this time. I was there in the summer and it was all dead, brown and 105*. Was there a week ago and the weather was phenomenal. Who's thunk Wisconsin would be more pleasant in December? Nice ride. love the Go Pro. We use it for surfing and sailing.

This is proof of global warning!!!

No one should be able to ride a bicycle in Wisconsin in December.

The vertical aspect of the camera is tilted down to the trail a bit to much. Up a touch more would seem to be better.

Yeah, he figured that out later. Working on technique.

Hard to judge the angle when it's on your head!

Strap the camera to the bike, not the rider. Check out Fatty for good bike video bloggin.

PS - Ride faster, you're not getting the lactate bonus at that rate.

I have one of those Go Pros. I've never used it. I'll find a way to mount it to my hang glider and take a video, if the weather ever clears here. Other pilots do it all the time. Although I've been flying them for over a decade, my avatar is the only photo I have of me hang gliding, and I don't even know the guy who took it. I need to work on my self-promotion more.

"Bagoh20 - he's not the worst!"

Support my efforts by using the Althouse Amazon portal. I have insufficient gravitas to get my own, and I expect them to adopt me soon, so I'll eventually get it in pancakes and bacon. Wooohoo!

Respectfully disagree, surfed. I think the problem is field of vision--the camera lens needs to be a bit wider angle. What Meade captured at low angles is just as interesting as what got clipped at higher angle.

Maybe what he needs for Christmas is a strap-on fish-eye lens for the full "cycle-delic" experience.

"Maybe what he needs for Christmas is a strap-on"

Amazon portal may help with that.

If you search on there for "strap on" you get some movies like: "The Last Hard Men" Starring Charlton Heston, James Coburn, Barbara Hershey, et al.

and books like: "Unclean Jobs for Women and Girls" by Alissa Nutting (Oct 1, 2010)

Merry Christmas!

I like self consistent people, and Ralph Nader seems to me to be self consistent. I was interested when I listened to a PBS interview of the man, and he lauded Judge Borke, as a friend. In that interview, he mentioned the problems with inventing rights in the constitution, is that you can remove rights in the constitution.

Ralph Nader does not view Obama in a good light, in an optic worse than W..

I find that interesting, that what is viewed as the far left, would have the integrity to make this point. Now that's intellectual honesty.

Thanks for sharing. I see how I rode a small section of the Capital City trail (from the SW trail to the Verona frontage road) back in August, but didn't continue since I had to get back to my daughter's place and didn't have a WI trail pass. I did a bookmark to the Capital City and the other local state trails pdf maps.

Mrs Meade really zips along. The Blonde couldn't do that anymore (she used to) because of her knees, so we have her swimming.

So, do they make you wear a helmet or is it because of the great amount of urban terrain you negotiate?

A gentle piece of advice, Dante, worth every penny you paid for it:

Don't get emotionally invested in your comments. Sic transit gloria bloggae.

You need permission to ride the bike paths in Wisconsin? Aren't they, for the most part, on public rights of way?

BTW
Nice wheels, Althouse

Yeah, that's what I like about Robert Cook. I think his view of the world is delusional, and the enaction of his preferred policies would bring about the ruin of the country. But he's so far outside the political mainstream that he can see most parties in that mainstream through the same warped lens, rather than one lens for the left and another for the right.

KCFleming said...

Mr. Cook's lenses are in fact inconsistent, much as his brand of leftism is never ever wrong.

Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot weren't true socialists or communists or some such. Hitler wasn't a socialist. That sort of thing.

As such, he sees Democrats = Republicans and being not sufficiently starboard, equally dismissed.

I agree that very often Democrats = Republicans, in terms of being statists in different flavors, and I approach that from the right, with similar distaste for most everything collective beyond a few basics.

My lenses see Cook's lenses. And his, mine.

I went canoeing on Monona on Christmas day in '93 or '94. That was fun. The ice arrived a little late but when it did it was all there.

a great day for a ride...and a run, in shorts. Yay!

Sartorially speaking, lose the yellow jacket babes. It's not your best color.

Here's how we use the Go Pro. It took me a while to figure out how not to just film my feet. I am not in this clip but it is a perfect example. Meade would be interested if not you.

It's supposed to keep me from getting killed.

Why don't you tell me to wear a prettier hat?

You're on a trail and it's daylight. I'm guessing very little autos interaction. No need for the garish yellow. And the helmet? You're right of course. bet you never wore one in 1960. That said, there would seem to be a waiting market for attractive bicycle headgear. Every helmet I've evr seen is ugly and silly looking. Men and women.

KCFleming said...

I don't think the trail starts at her front door.

Bagoh-- It would be cool to see film clips of your hang gliding.

Meade needs a bike trailer with a Lab in it.

It doubles the steepness of every upgrade.

It's the gender equalizer.

In follow-up, yes, Wisconsin has a trail pass regime. (See link.) And the funny thing is that most of the Wisconsin trails up near the Twin Cities of Minnesota, are limestone, so you are paying to ride on a non-paved surface.

"and didn't have a WI trail pass"

There are places along the path where you can fill out a form and pay and deposit in a lock box.

Just bring a little cash next time. You can buy a 1-day pass.
