"Kate Middleton's pregnancy: 10 stories I don't want to read."

Aw, come on. We're not supposed to amuse ourselves with the reproduction of the royals?

I bet Kate Middleton is happy she's pregnant so she can eat for the first time since her engagement.

Do people actually care? The gossip rags like royal celebrities, but I wonder what fraction of their reading public would care if the rags quit dishing it up. "I haven't heard anything lately about Prince ... Oh look, a squirrel!"

(My textbooks said we fought some kind of war a few centuries ago so we wouldn't have to pay any mind to British royalty. I thought we won, but I may have been mislead.)

Every naysayer everywhere will be reading the stories and looking at the photos when the little bugger pops out.

The Blonde had the same thing when she was pregnant and it's very dangerous.

If the stories raise public awareness it's probably a good thing.

We've created our own royalty through Hollyweird and (gag) the Kennedys, but nothing beats the real thing.

Apparently "republicans" in Britain are anti-symbolic-Monarchist radicals.

Hey, we get all the fun of it without actually having the royals. What's not to like about that?

Also... garage's comment made me smile.

Actually, I think that this round, Will and Harry, are a bit more sane than the last set, even with Harry's partying. The whole thing of it seemed to just be there to eat Di and Fergie because they were being forced to play by ridiculous rules. Bravo to Will for refusing to play that twisted game.

The succession used to matter and early pregnancy was a good sign.

Will there be pics of her bigger bust?

Tits.

We shall see. Charles and Diana seemed normal and happy enough in the beginning. I hope things work out better this time around.

Charles and Diana seemed normal and happy but nothing about the rest of it was. We heard news reports that they confirmed her freaking virginity, fer pities sake. She was all of 18 years old? Yes, it was storybook and she seemed to think he was wonderful. But it was a weird twisted marriage that could have come right out of one of my regency romances... I'm as conservative as they get and convinced as anyone that virginity at marriage and monogamy are the way to go, but to *check*??

Synova said...

BTW, I really *like* my silly regency romances, but it's not the same thing for the people involved when *everyone* has to follow the same rules and the culture supports a different idea about marriage.

I know it's unrealistic, but it would be nice if they were left alone.

I wish that mocking childless hipsters were in vogue.

I don't think anyone checked Kate's virginity.
This marriage probably brings the IQ potential way up for the future royals. Lady Di helped and now Kate who seems to be smarter than Diana. The future royals will be a huge improvement on sad little Edward VIII.

They're the biggest Welfare Queens (and Kings) going.

If I were a Brit, I'd be pissed about able-bodied layabouts being on the dole.

They are huge landowners in the UK and London itself. The surplus from their landholdings goes to the treasury in exchange for a steady income from the state.
They actually operate at about a net wash.

One could argue about whether or not they should be allowed to own so much land, but they do and have historically (the majority of London is privately owned by a relatively few number of families). They earn their money as investors and landlords, which is different than being on the dole.

You mean like the "Saxe-Coburg and Gotha" German royalty in the UK? :-))

@Garage is right...at last Kate can help herself to some fried chicken and buttered grits, with ample sides of hot greasy French Fries.

Not to mention the tourist dollars that the monarchy brings in. Americans, as has been observed, lap that stuff up. Which I fully intend to do someday when I get the bucks to visit Merrie Olde England.

To be honest I found the article on dogs driving cars much more interesting.

Considering our own Imperial Court, we are in no position to throw rocks at the relatively impecunious British royals.

So long as Sarah Palin's reproductive organs aren't involved in any stories, I'll be fine.

"So, no, if I were a UKer, I wouldn't think they should be allowed, in the modern era, to own vast remnants of their former UK holdings."

So what if instead of royalty the person who owns too much of the vast remnants of former land holdings is someone who's grandpa was a rancher in Wyoming... or Zimbabwe?

So when does Zara put out its pregnancy line?
