After skipping a trip due to a stomach virus, Hillary Clinton faints and has a concussion.

And guess what?
Congressional aides do not expect her to testify as scheduled at congressional hearings on Thursday into the Sept. 11 attack against a U.S. diplomatic outpost in Benghazi, Libya, that killed four Americans, including the U.S. ambassador.
I'm sorry if she's really sick and that she hurt herself, but I do not accept her weaseling out of the Benghazi hearings.

ADDED: As several commenters have noted, these physical ailments, used as excuses for stepping up to duty, are damaging to her image as a potential presidential candidate. Will she be up for the 3 a.m. phone call? I can only think of 2 reasons why her people would let us hear this story that she fainted, addled her pate, and can't face up to Congress on Benghazi: 1. She's not going to run for President, or 2. What she would have to say about Benghazi is more damaging than this effort to avoid testifying.

Yeah, if I had to lie my ass off at a Congressional hearing, my stomach would be a bit dodgy, too.

And, really, if one is trying to rehabilitate the reputations of Obama's female appointees after Susan "Leave Her Alone Because She's a Woman and Delicate Daisy" Rice, the last way to do it would be to have your Secretary of State faint before her Big Day.

I had a concussion when I was a kid. I took a day off and then went back to school. I think she can manage some testimony.

And, if not, can we not invalidate her run for presidency on the same grounds? Too weak to run for president. Yes,she has 4 years to recuparate, but the lady is obviously damaged goods.

Ms Clinton is reprising the schtick that Janet Reno used during the Clinton Administration--Ms Reno was scheduled to testify, I think on Waco, when she caught the vapours and fainted--she avoided the hearings out of the legislative members deference to her fragile condition. (I am working from memory here, but I think I have the general story line right)

What a fucking farce--have Ms Clinton get a note from her Doctor, get her big ass up to the hill and testify. Fainting is not a long term disability unless, heaven forbid, she is seriously ill--in which case she should resign her portfolio forthwith.

One important advantage Mrs Clinton brings to the campaign is her empathy with the elderly and frail, earned through her health struggles of the last several years. "She knows what it's like to sit in a waiting room for hours, or endure weeks of delays before getting an appointment", notes journalist George Stephanopolous. Democrat strategists feel her experience will not only blunt Republican claims that routine medical delays are the fault of Obamacare, it will force Republicans on to the defensive as they have to acknowledge they haven't fixed the problem.

Incredibly, some Republicans have tried to use Mrs Clinton's age and poor health against her. "It's just appalling", fumed tv personality James Carville. "Here you have this nice old lady, can't get out of bed most mornings, just wants to do something good for America, and these old white men in Washington try to make her feel bad about it."

Hillary has walked away from larger and more aromatic steaming piles than BenGhazi. To think that this little bump in the road would cause her to crash is indeed wishful thinking.... It's good that we have now documented this concussion. When 2016 comes, she will claim the health of a triathalon finisher, but there's just too much risk of dementia or altzheimer's to allow her to hold any further public office.

AllenS said...

This might take her out of the running for POTUS.

Sometimes your body actually is very faithfully cooperative that way. I do not doubt any of facts as stated and observed.

I had to really watch it. I never got sick. In order to call in sick and put on a good act, a bit of method acting was required. I'd get into the role first before calling, act achy, move slowly, be complainy, cast my voice back, go for some vocal fry, crackling, croaking, a good realistic suppressed cough, unpleasant pauses, that sort of thing, and damn if I didn't actually make myself sick for the entire rest of the day and there went the whole purpose of calling in sick to have an illicit day of fun.

But this one time I really did faint in public in front of people and created a scene and talk at the workplace to which I had to return. The first time I donated blood. We all drove to a nearby site in the Tech Center. I was so eager to do it too, so well chuffed. Didn't realize 6' 135 LBS is probably not a good idea to jump up off the table and go dashing off, woozy, hey there's a folding chair in the corner there, but there's a box on it, paper clips, pick up the box, whaaaaaaaa ... bang, nothing, dark, bink bright, people crowded hovering, paper clips all over the whole place.

Then I went back to work.

Didn't we start the week with lots of stories on the inevitability of Hillary in 2016? Newt, Carville, Nate the Wizard!

Somehow, I don't think The First Female President!!! - is promoted that much by positioning her as the person who ducks questioning because her little tummy would be disturbed and she might faint under the stress.

The Influencers of course assume Benghazi will eventually be forgotten. They forget their fathers and mothers saw the public grab onto the mystery of a 2nd rate burglary 40 years ago and kept focused, wanting the mystery solved.

Again, for those who wish to believe Benghazi is a complex matter which requires an investigation: No, it isn't. It's only a problem because Obama is stonewalling something.

The American ambassador and his defenders called for help over the course of several hours. The White House was monitoring the situation yet no help was sent -- not even a jet flew over to scare the attackers.

There is no excuse for this, and given the records kept for chain of command there is no mystery how it happened. It's just a matter of revealing the specifics. This Obama will not allow.

Obama knows what happened. He will not tell us. He pretends he is acting in good faith. Any American who accepts his behavior is complicit.

The hints at conspiracy and faux-sympathy smacks of insincerity/bullshitting to me, much more than a future conditional verb tense error would. In any case, as I wrote previously, conspiracy theories are fun and non-partisan in their appeal -- there were plenty of them going around during the Bush administration. Hillary herself has been known to indulge in them.

Read the news story ....

Clinton fainted "last week" - which means at least a week ago - so she can't be expected to testify at a hearing 5 days from now.

So - what's going to happen to her testimony? Will we simply hold off and take her testimony at a later date?

Ummm .... No .....

"Senior State Department officials William Burns and Thomas Nides are to take Clinton's place at both hearings."

Now, concussions are nasty things and it's quite possible that Mrs. Clinton was so messed up that she's not going to be physically (meaning "in full possession of her mental faculties as well as physically able") by next Thursday.

But the story also says "She will continue to work from home in the week ahead and looks forward to returning to the office "soon," the (State Department's) statement said.

If she's able to "work from home" today, 5 days prior to the scheduled testimony, then her "mental faculties" are functioning now.

This is all about Hillary! not wanting to have to say anything on the record, under oath about Benghazi. It's one thing to ask her underlings "Why did the Secretary of State keep peddling the "protest" angle?" and quite another to ask HER what she thought she was doing.

The entire Clinton family is a continuing criminal enterprise as has been since Bill's momma went to Hot Springs and took up with what was left of the old Southern Mafia.

Bill, and now Chelsea have had the ways greased for them in a way that no ordinary citizen would have.

Same with Obama. I do not know the system where these people are picked but there are many of those families, with shadow ties to the underworld in politics. And we wonder whay the country is falling apart. Trillions looted from the economy going, where? Guns sent over the border, why? The administration making nice with those who hate Americca and Israel, why?

Of course she won't tesity now and when (if) she does testify it's another bout of "I don't recall."

And these are the people whose only real duty is to protect America from harm. God help us.

Your all wrong.

That's why she is "sick".

About 5 weeks ago, I also fell because I was dehydrated and faint. By coincidence, my uncle did about 3 weeks ago. Both of us badly banged up our faces and required stitches. My injury included damage to my mouth area and talking was difficult for several days. I share this because it suggests that it is entirely possible that she'll require a few days to heal before testifying in public.

I take full responsibility for Hillary not testifying. (Say, that wasn't so hard after all.)

A concussion!?

Is Hillary trying to ad football to her vast list of accomplishments?

Essentially, she is telling us " The Dog Ate My Homework " - We've come to expect this shite from HILL and her ilk.

4 good men died due to her failures - she should be brought in wearing handcuffs for a perp walk.

Anyone else would be dealing with serious charges, not more idiotic delays and excuses.

Troubled Voter said, So the conspiracy theory you're positing is an ex ante condemnation of her failure to testify entirely. You're trolling yourself, and being disingenuously sympathetic.

It's not a conspiracy theory. I believe Althouse (correct me if I'm wrong) is essentially saying it seems like an extremely convenient excuse. That's what I think.

Now if we said you personally were enlisted by someone to give a pro-Hillary spin, THAT would be a conspiracy theory. But no one has said that. So stop your own trolling and stop calling this a "conspiracy theory".

Why do you claim a "conspiracy theory" when there is absolutely no basis for that? Do you do that because you're mentally "troubled"?

It is very important that someone testify. Perhaps they can brief Susan Rice on what to say and send her. She seems pretty good about repeating what she's told.

"I don't care if her testimony is postponed. What I don't accept is her avoiding it entirely."

You mean like you avoided your "live blog" on election night.

This injury/illness is really just beautifully timed. What an elegant, defensible way to exit her position, evade damaging testimony, etc. 2016 is still alive!

It's just so perfect. And Sen. Kerry is there to help wrap it with a bow.

"It's nice to see professor Althaus can police the comments when someone disagrees with her, but not when her commenters are posting racial and homophobic slurs..."

Speaking as one who has had their comments deleted by the ol perfesser on numerous occasions.

Hillary just voted 'present'.

Just like her boss.

And Rice was the fall guy (or girl or woman or just plain patsy.)

RR could be president while sleeping and while his brain was disintegrating.

Comparing what happened to Hillary, her incident seems like a toe stub.

And that's only considering recent Presidential history.

Weebles wobble but they don't fall down.

lol.

Lame excuses. The Democrats must really think that everyone is as stupid as those who vote for them.

Hilary has a drinking issue. I have been saying that for about 3 years now. Rich and powerful people do not age as quickly as she has unless there is a drug or alcohol picture.

Why is it that the Republicans can find people with real fortitude, integrity and strength of character like Dr Condoleezza Rice to fill important roles like Secretary of State?

she fainted because of 1. she had a flashback of christina's aquilera's huge bewbs and realized she herself is a dyke. or 2. she caught bill clinton having gay sex with 0bama in the basement of the WH.

but since she seems to have a stomach virus... maybe the doctors should dispose of her, then burn her corpse and dump her ass in the ocean so there isn't some deadly viral outbreak that kills off 99% of the world's population.

I went to the ER in Arlington County with symptoms of stomach pain and vomiting on Monday and was told by the ER doctor that a GI bug is going around the DC area and I was the sixth case he'd seem in the last few days. He was wrong about that diagnisis in my case, as I had [what I thought it was] an obstruction of the small bowel. But if the ER docs in the area where Clinton lives were indeed seeing an outbreak of GI virus at the time Clinton says she got ill that way, it does seem to bolster at least that part of her story.

Why won't Hilary testify? It's easy, she would lie. She's Liberal, and a Democrat, so lying comes easy...plus, she's a lawyer. That means she'll lie at the drop of a hat.

leslyn said...

Then why wouldn't she testify, Rich Vail?

Your logic is contrarian to what you aver.

I go with (1) and (2).

Just so we're clear: testifying before Congress regarding executive branch knowledge of and reaction to foreign threats to Americans, and knowledge of and reaction to the carrying out of those threats is now optional. They'll go through the motions when it's convenient. Got it.
