Obama rally video.

Meade films Bruce Springsteen singing about never surrendering and a lefty anti-Obama protester with a sign that says "Where was Obama during the Wisconsin uprising (and the recall)???" Then Springsteen sings something that sounds to Meade like "land of broken dreams" — or was it "land of hope and dreams"? — and then Obama comes on the stage and gives Springsteen a hug and then gives him a second needy hug.

(Video will be up soon: here.)

Oh, the collective bargaining protests have been upgraded to an "uprising"? Very exciting. Big time street cred for any and all participants, I'm sure.

One has to wonder how union households would answer pollsters. You never really know who is on the other side. I wouldn't assume all the "Democrat" early votes are Obama votes.

Did Meade have a crowd estimate? It is hard to tell from the video, but it doesn't look large.

What was that movie--wait, no, that's happened in lots of movies, so it's a cliche now. That makes it easier because alluding to cliches is easy, while trying to remember specific movies is hard. I want to say "Equilibrium" but that was basically a montage of cliches. Anyway, it's not important. I'm thinking of that cliche: the cliche with the droning, echoing voice reverberating through empty streets, and the big head on the video screen. I didn't notice music--just that droning voice. Voooooote. Ooooobaaaaamaaaa. Vooooooote.

This video and that cliche. Yeah.

Meade's video makes it clear that the crowd was largely confined to MLK Blvd off the square.

Maybe he said "Boulevard of broken dreams?"

I gotta wonder if Springsteen imagines himself to be the anti-Dylan--someone who started out electric but is slowly regressing back to acoustic American folk music. He certainly is smitten with the wannabe Seeger/Guthrie role.

Speaking of real American musical legends, what's up with the Bob Dylan/Mark Knopfler show in Madison tonight?

Then the Democratic campaign worker asked for another person who lives here, asked by name, and whether that person had voted. Just a little creepy.

Springsteen Trots Out Settlement in Horse Lawsuit

Jose Lambiet of the PALM BEACH POST reports that the rock legend paid $200,000 to Florida horseman Todd Minikus, after reneging on a deal to buy a steed for Bruce’s 15-year-old daughter, Jennifer.

Minikus took Springsteen to court when the Boss didn’t go through with the $850,000 purchase of 10-year-old gelding Pavarotti. But the Springsteens apparently were put off by the horse’s poor showing at the Pan American Games, and decided Pavarotti wasn’t going to help Jennifer’s fledgling equestrian career.
A source close to the settlement said that the Boss “doesn’t have much of a stomach for a legal battle. He’s not a fighter.”

At least he'll have something to talk about with the Romneys when they invite him to the White House.

Gawd I hate that music.

Try again.

The Lefties invoke him as if he were Salvation itself, mostly as a method of spreading FUD, particularly after the issue of polling skews arose. Most of the Silver references seemed only to need, "Be afraid. Be very afraid".

I've followed Rasmussen because he seems about as objective as pollsters get - although some of his twists and turns the last couple of weeks have mystified me.

As for Silver's sexual proclivities, I'm willing to bet more people know about him being one of the KosKidz.

And, if we're talking who graduated from what universities, so did Romney, McCain, and Dubya, so the churlishness of that reference is self-evident.

If thats true then they are definitely voting for Obama... as instructed by Obama himself... to get revenge.

As far as the Wisconsin polls then... and how they might not be reflecting reality... oversampling the students is skewing the numbers towards an Obama bias.

I don't know for a fact if that is happening. I'm only speculating as to how the ultimate result (tomorrow) might not be showing up in the polling we have been digesting... and giving me belly aches.

Chip S. said...

Nate Silver's technique could yield incorrect results this year w/o any conscious bias on his part. It's in his methodology.

As I understand it, one of the key determinants of the weight he gives to each pollster is its accuracy in the most recent comparable election. In the case of the 2012 presidential race, this means disproportionate weight is given to the results from pollsters who accurately predicted the 2008 presidential results.

I think it's been established that the main reason for different poll results is different likely-voter screens. In that case, the pollsters who did best in 2008 were the ones predicting unusually high Dem turnout. If those pollsters are simply better at predicting likely voters, then Silver's weights will work fine this year.

But if those are just pollsters who tend to predict high Dem turnout, then a return to more usual turnout rates will mean Silver's technique is biased.

We'll find out soon enough which it is.

chickelit said...

The criticism over significant figures is nonsense. If something has a 1 in 1,000 chance of occurring, it is 0.1%.

Suppose that "thing" actually has 10 in 1,000 chance of occurring. It still seems remote, yet it makes his vaunted precision a joke. The accuracy of the number is N8 Ag's patented stock in trade. There have to be error bars associate with any input numbers and must carry through to error bars in his outcomes.

If he's right tomorrow, I'll eat crow. If he's wrong, I'll join the chorus of boos and point to the absurd levels of confidence he placed in his numbers--not just his accuracy but also precision.

Lem the artificially intelligent said...

Drago said...

Chip: "But if those are just pollsters who tend to predict high Dem turnout, then a return to more usual turnout rates will mean Silver's technique is biased."

Most of the MSM polls used a single question likely voter screen (self identified) which is basically not a likely voter screen since about 95% of all poll-ee's tend to say that they will vote when we know from actual data that close to 40% of registered voters don't actually vote (about 38% in 2008 and about 39% in 2006 did not vote).

mike: "Is that what the Democrats think is going to motivate the lemmings to go to the polls."

It just might motivate them to move the hell away from there and they might pass a polling station as they egress!

Of course, it won't matter because, according to leslyn, Scott Walker has placed barricades and police dogs in front of polling stations near the campus.

You know, just like nazi germany.

That "land of broken dreams" song is the one that got played to death on Fox and TBS during the baseball playoffs, giving me an acute case of Bruce-fatigue.

Thank God they changed it up to The Who for the World Series.

And speaking of The Who, today's theme song is "We Don't Get Fooled Again"!
