Gov. Scott Walker on how the Romney campaign should use Paul Ryan.

On the radio today, Charlie Sykes talked about how Paul Ryan would be good at explaining what Romney's 47% percent comment was supposed to say — that there's a "tipping point" in the economy. Sykes also speculates that Romney's campaign people are somehow holding Ryan back. Walker responds (at 10:10 in the audio at the link):
"They not only need to use him out on the trail more effectively, they need to have more of him rub off on Mitt, because I think Mitt thinks that way but he's got to be able to articulate that. I think he's got a compelling message, but he's got to get out an tell it, and I think too many people are restraining him from telling it."

I think he's got a compelling message...

And what, pray tell, is that message?

I thought the message was that Mitt Romney was not Obama, and the Republican delegates, gathered together in Tampa, deemed that message sufficient to win.

Ought Team Republican to come up with a new message?

At this late stage in the game?

Geez, Republicans, you need to ask yourself: Is your party better off now than it was four years ago?

VOTE FOR GARY JOHNSON! HE'S THE ONLY NON-INSANE CHOICE!

If he weren't getting his point across, Choom would be winning in a walk.

That said, I do think more joint appearances would do the Romster good.

Oh sorry that double-post was not intentional!!! It seems I cannot delete it... don't know why... I may be divine and omniscient, but still I gotta play by Google's rules like everyone else.

One more thought:

Why in the world did Romney select Ryan as his running mate, only to sideline him now? The command for Ryan to shut up about government spending and immigration came from the top of the ticket... because Mitt Romney has no fucking idea what he's doing... because Team Republican is in the same shambles that it was left in by G. W. Bush.

Sorry, Willard only listens to Willard as he flies by the seat of his pants ie no apologies! :o

Whatever you want it to be, flip/flopping extraordinaire Willard's got it covered from every angle.

Hey, he's flexible ...

Mr. Ryan has the "fire in the belly" which Mr. Romney does not. Even Mrs.

Well at least we now know for whom "God" works.

I admit, I'm a little disappointed with the transparency.

"VOTE FOR GARY JOHNSON! HE'S THE ONLY NON-INSANE CHOICE"

Now that's harsh. Romney's not insane, and neither is Obama. They have their defects, but insanity?

God, An Original A-hole said...

@David -

Insanity for voter, not for the voted.

An American voting for Obama or Romney is like an Anglo-Saxon voting for William the Conquerer.

Not that there was a vote back then... forgive me, dear mortals, as I bend my rhetoric backward to avoid the maxim of Godwin...

VOTE FOR GARY JOHNSON, YOU FUCKING MOTHER-FUCKER!!!

This should inspire confidence among the GOP. Is this rock bottom? Mitteo Romnriguez is going to help the Dems keep the senate at this rate!

This is what Ryan does:

Ryan booed, Obama cheered at AARP conference

Paul Ryan might be right in what he says. But his higher-up, Mitt Romney, has promised Medicare-as-usual... and, no doubt, Romney will need to remind Ryan to shut his fucking mouth.

I'm voting for the pothead. But you fuckers gotta admit that at least the Democrats have an coherent ideology, socialist though it is.

The Republicans ain't got even that. Just a rich man with nice hair (...and how much dat haircut cost, Mitt?... actually, nevermind, he's probably got a high-paid stylist or five on staff...)

It's been an amazing week, Republicans, take heart, there's always Gary Johnson, God only knows.

I only smite evil fuckers who do evil things, like make blue meth and kill people.

Oh... wait a sec...

When Romney is giving speeches, Ryan should be doing a strip tease. Women will fall for that shit, I swear it. OK, just try it one time, and then watch what happens at the next speech.

Same at the debates. Ryan just stands off to the side doing a Chippendale's routine. Then desperate, Obama will get Biden to try it, and this thing is in the bag.

Hmm, the little animal should take a long look at the "evolution" of Commandante Zero's stories about the Benghazi attacks.

You really are an asshole.

Ryan promised to repeal ObamaTax and AARP is getting a $1B kickback for shilling for it.

That's why they're hemorrhaging members.

Baggy, you know what a woman likes, you big ol' caveman.

Some old ladies were getting ready to storm the stage, Ryan was looking kinda scared, don't touch their Medicare damnit! Those Gray Panthers will fuck you up.

"VOTE FOR GARY JOHNSON! HE'S THE ONLY NON-INSANE CHOICE!"

When "NON-INSANE CHOICE" = "He TOTALLY stands a chance, I don't care what the polls say," and "...I don't care what the polls say" is said circa 1936, then yeah, maybe Gary Johnson is the only non-insane choice.

In 2012, however, voting for Gary Johnson is the equivalent of taking a match to your ballot.

But you knew that already, didn't you?

'Cuz your God, or something.

@EdButcher-

Ryan promised to repeal ObamaTax...

Doesn't matter what Ryan promised. He has no authority to promise anything because he's number 2 on the ticket.

Even if the Mittster promised to repeal ObamaTax-- and did he? I can't find any clear Republican message in all the noise!-- numero uno hasn't yet made a solid case for doing so.

Romney didn't think he had to make a case. He didn't think he would have to explain his policy proposals at all. He, and his party, thought that voters would come flocking to his big ego and nice hair because he ain't Obama.

Or so it appears, anyhow...

Going backward in a debate is the most powerful effect a debate can affect when one considers the uninformed.

I am surprised that Althouse didn't blog Peggy Noonan's critique of the Romney campaign.

'Cuz when I think about soul-mates for Althouse....

I consider that Meade might have an enormous schwanzschtücker, but that Noonan is more of a soulmate.

And Althouse seems to always have good feelings for Noonan. Not like those rough sex desires that she seems to telegraph for Camilla Paglia. Oh me, how I would love to see those two get it on...

Yeah, pretty much throwing it away with Johnson. When I voted for Perot in 92, half his agenda got implemented... although NAFTA and GATT went through which he was against. It sent a message because he got a big chunk ~19% of the votes.

Gary Johnson is much better than Ross the Boss, but he's got no name, no face and legs.

He will beat Romeney in the debates and unless something bad happens that shakes the countries confidence between now and Nov, Ozero is likely to win. Too many religious nutballs in the Rustbelt will not pull the lever for a Mormon. The Florida retirees and the religious rednecks will make it happen for Barry Hussein.

So, the Johnson vote is empty symbolism that will not matter anyhow. Hell, if you are in Cali like me, it's in the Bag for O. He does come out regular to pick up cash, but does not campaign here at all, so any vote for prez is a waste.

Focus on the Niners, Gigantes and another Moneyball A's team. We are getting fired up for the Warriors as well. We saw Babs Boxer last year at Oracle. She is one tiny lady.

Ryan definitely gets it. His sound bite from Portland, Oregon about standing with Rahm was pitch perfect.

Romney is a good guy who will be a good President, but he kind of sucks at campaigning.

edutcher said...

God avoids the subject of AARP's kickback as the reason for its reaction to Paul Ryan, but he wants us all to hang on Peggy Noonan's critique because she has such incredibly high credibility.

Sure.

God, An Original A-hole said...

@EdButcher -

When you Republithugs start to shit on Peggy Noonan-- the always sensible, always pragmatic, always insightful, always smart Peggy Noonan-- then something has gone terribly, terribly wrong.

You are, no doubt, the type of guy who would support Richard III upon his declaration of himself as the conservative candidate.

....

And still, Godwin, I fucking avoid you... ha ha ha!

Dear God

Your moniker is on the wrong side of the taint according to Louis CK. I don't recommend using it here, that would be *non-sensitive*. Accuracy has it's limits.

Why do you care what Nooner says. She use to write for that idiot terrorist appeaser Dutch, the first Tea-Bagger in Chief. Her Boss was responsible for 911 and took credit from Nixon for the fall of CCCP. I don't see any of these brain-damaged qualities in our hostess.

As for Meade, he looks to be a 9-narrow: probably claims to be Svengali as *they* do.

Howard, you comment like a fucking Duck, and I have no idea what you are saying. I stand by Peggy Noonan and her support for the Alzheimerer-in-Chief. And I am as accurate as a fucking fine-point pen....

A more literate comment than usual for big L Libertarians. Why not soak that ballot in gasoline and drop a match in the ballot box after it? You would accomplish a bit more.

If AARP ever gives up on Obama they will be lost. Nobody likes a loser whore.

I'd love to see more of Paul Ryan, making the case. I have a feeling the MSM is reluctant to oblige. (NB the MSM likes to talk a lot about what e.g. Romney said-- but we hear little of Romney and Ryan actually talking.) That's no excuse; Scott Walker is right; I hope the Romney campaign puts Ryan in the spotlight again (and finds a way, if need be, to force the MSM spotlight on him, or to efficaciously go around the MSM).

Ryan gave a great speech to the AARP; just as Romney gave a great speech to the NAACP. Neither R is afraid of boos or making his argument to a hostile audience (using reason and facts to persuade the skeptical, not facile demagoguery just preaching to the choir). Quite the contrast with the guy spending his time talking to Letterman, Entertainment Tonight, People Magazine, etc.

The entirety, I mean entirety of Obama's campaign (and Obama supporters' comments) these days seems to consist of: the polls say Obama's already won, and Romney's already lost! That's it. That's the 2012 substitute for "Hope and Change": "Polls, we win!"

Jim Geraghty had an interesting chat with Republican pollster John McLaughlin. Excerpt:

What Obama and his allies are doing now: “The Democrats want to convince [these anti-Obama voters] falsely that Romney will lose to discourage them from voting. So they lobby the pollsters to weight their surveys to emulate the 2008 Democrat-heavy models. They are lobbying them now to affect early voting. IVR [Interactive Voice Response] polls are heavily weighted. You can weight to whatever result you want. Some polls have included sizable segments of voters who say they are ‘not enthusiastic’ to vote or non-voters to dilute Republicans. Major pollsters have samples with Republican affiliation in the 20 to 30 percent range, at such low levels not seen since the 1960s in states like Virginia, Florida, North Carolina and which then place Obama ahead. The intended effect is to suppress Republican turnout through media polling bias. We’ll see a lot more of this. Then there’s the debate between calling off a random-digit dial of phone exchanges vs. a known sample of actual registered voters. Most polls favoring Obama are random and not off the actual voter list. That’s too expensive” for some pollsters.

I won’t vote for Gary Johnson this time because this election is too important to make a protest vote. Even though South Carolina will probably go Republican no matter how I vote, I can’t take that chance this time. Normally I vote libertarian because I hope the more libertarian votes there are the more seriously libertarian ideas will be taken. However, this time, the stakes are too high to make a statement vote. If Obama wins, the country is doomed.
