I hope I can see it!
A supermoon is when a very fat person shows you their butt. Don't let it happen to you!
The little girl next door was talking about it; she was told all about it in school.Glad they do stuff like this.At all.Donald Douglas said...I hope I can see it!Maybe not.Could be Moochelle.
Super clouds.Astronomical observing in Wisconsin. (sigh)
It's a modern invention, probably by the media. Maybe it's a NASA budget effect feeding it to them.Probably it falls under traditional yo-yo news (stocks are up, stocks are down).
too many clouds here in VA....will catch it tomorrow.
It should be really good. I'm going to try to take a photo or two if I can.No clouds here today and the sky is always fabulous becuase we have no ambient light from any nearby city to destroy it. The air is very clear and we can see for miles and miles The stars are always incredible.
Ah, to be in Brazil tonight.eondsite obecha
By the way, did you realize Nixon put a man on the moon? By himself. Just like Obama.
Lunacy of all Lunacy had to arrive on the day of the Miffliners get together. Co-incidence? I think not.
"The stars are always incredible."Except, of course, tonight, when the biggest source of light pollution in the sky will be brighter than usual.
Overcast in New York. Bummer.
Except, of course, tonight, when the biggest source of light pollution in the sky will be brighter than usual.LOL
I blame George Bush. All kidding aside....my wife worked as an emergency room nurse. They added staff during a full moon. She now works as an attorney. They add staff AFTER a full moon.
@DBQ: We observers are not fond of the moon. Though, when it's in the sky (and since you can't look at anything else, anyways) it can be fun to observe.
The moon at high magnification AND low atmospheric turbulence, which is rare, is spectacular.
@ MikeWe have a some high powered spotting scopes for bird watching and some other strong optical equipment. Nothing like a 'real' astronomer would have, but the last time there was a supermoon, looking at the moon through the equipment was really neat.It is amazing. We take the Universe for granted.....at our peril :-D
It's a little known fact that if you squint really hard, and turn your head just right, you can can just see the American flag on the moon. (kidding)Enjoy the moon tonight, D.
Even if it wasn't cloudy, you wouldn't be particularly impressed. It will only be about 14% bigger than normal, which you wouldn't notice if you weren't looking for it. You can cover the entire moon with a dime at arms length, even tonight.
We like the moon!
It's a special night when rh moons you :)
Here in Southern California the sky is clear, it's warm and the girl is really showing off. Spectacular.
Mostly cloudy here in southwest Florida, but when I went outside at midnight, the moon was shining brightly through a hole in the clouds, although not for very long. Big, bright, but not exceptionally so to my eyes, since it was high in the sky.
A little cloudy here, but it definitely looks bigger. Took a little while to peek over the mountains. I was always a little spooked by the moon. When I was very little my parents took me out in the night to see a moon eclipse and it freaked me out.
OMG! I GET TO SAY IT!"Look!""Up in the sky!""It's a bird.""It's a plane.""It's...SUPERMOON!"And in honor of the doggeral of Wally Cox..."Neither plane, nor dog, nor even a loon. It's just lil' ol' me, Supermoon"
I love the juxtaposition with the Obama campaign 'kick-off' in Ohio.Talk about a mooning!A lot of empty seats and those 'special' buses for his fawning flock. Did they remove the tethers, I wonder, before or after leading them into the auditorium???
