Second-grader — assigned to come to school dressed as a historical figure — chooses MLK Jr. and gets in trouble.

Because he wore blackface.

If there's no hint of irony and the kid really wanted to do this, there's no issue except the hangups of the "adults". On the other hand, regardless of the best intentions, one could probably make a strong case for parental malpractice. On the other, other hand, who would get bent out of shape if a 2nd grade black kid showed up with a powdered wig and wooden teeth, claiming that he "cannot tell a lie"? Nobody.

I guess they did not judge him on the content of his character.

Instapundit links to this article on diversity training.

Connect the dots.

He should have just changed his character to Al Jolson. I know, the PC police wouldn't care.

Actually, he looks like a MLK, Jr. Groucho Marx morph.

Ann, you sure do love these racially charged posts don't cha? They do get your Althouse Hillbillies moving in the morning. Yee-Ha!

I'm sure the kid was innocent, but the parents should have had the common sense to prevent. Scott has it exactly right.

I take it that between now and election day that Ann and the rest of the rightwing blogsphere will be pushing race-race-race 24 hours a day. Crude, but it will probably work.

Ann, cranking up the music-

"Hey you Hillbillies sleeping on my porch, wake up and lets do the race hustle!"

Everyone boogie now!

(Tiresome) Jay Retread's name says it all.......

Gee Mr. Retread, the NYT just used a kids long and lovely pink hair to bash Mitt and give President Jesus the full Monica.

Does that make them sophisticated hillbillies?

Whites can't put on blackface and blacks can't act white. Symmetry.

rhhardin said...

I missed why blackface became offensive.

I took it as people falling over themselves trying to follow the opinion of the mob.

rhardin, Ted Danson was the landmark case.

"A spokeswoman for the principal told KRDO that some students, as well as the faculty member who initially complained, felt the costume was offensive. It's the principal's job to make sure the school is a safe environment for students, she said."

So when some students and one faculty member become offended the school turns into dangerous environment. Who knew that second grade classrooms were such powderkegs of racial violence?

Hey Jay Retread why don't you try fucking the shut up sometime and see it that works.

Yesterday deep within the reeking bowls of a comment section worse even than a string of aptly named Jay Retreads, at CNN I think, some commenter there remarked, something something ..."this sack of shinola."

Shinola is a shoe shine product sold in cans, no? The blackface made me think of that.

But back to Jay Retread and its distaste for the hostess's choice of topics, this is covered so many times it's not even funny so to deal with it again is straight up retarded. Jay Retard, yes, it will be race every day. Race, sex, and class separation. Do you have that, retard? Race, sex, class.

It goes like this Jay: Race, sex, class. Race, sex, class. Race, sex, class. Race, sex, class. Race, sex, class. Race, sex, class. Race, sex, class.Race, sex, class.

See what I did there? I copy/pasted just as you do. The same shit over and over.

So, when a post appears you should ask yourself, "what does this oddball post have to do with race, sex, or class? And then if you weren't retarded and constantly retreading then you would answer for yourself the question you ask yourself, "Where in the world did this come from?"

This will be all for Jay Retread, it's on ignore from hereon. Too bad the little fuck doesn't come with a photo, say, with a strong diagonal, stark yellow portion, a hat, to make itself brilliantly easy to ignore, but it should be easy enough.

Neither could his career.

Racebaiting is Ann's bread and butter for her blog.

Douchebaggery is Jay Retread's bread and butter for life.

On topic, would everyone had been cool if he had worn an MLK mask?

What's the difference?

"It's policy"

Face paint violates the school's dress code policy, she said.

What a fucking cop-out.

What happened to our national dialogue on race?

Wince said...

Each student in the class had been assigned a historical figure to dress up as for “wax museum day” at the school, the station reported.

That the event was actually called "wax museum day" really did suggest the goal should be to look like the historical figure, in a creepy made-up way.

Did somebody fart?

Oh Jay Retread was talking. Sometimes it's difficult to tell the difference.

Jay Retread is right!

Just look at how the right blew the Trayvon Martin out of all proportion just to get people talking about race and crime.

Bread and butter with gravy.

You could never get seconds on roast beef, but it turns out that bread and butter with roast beef gravy is better anyway, and they had as much of that as you wanted.

rhhardin said...

Lightnin' Hopkins, on Imus, did a clearly enunciated blues bit, with hip black majority people of the future pretending to be white.

[sharply enunciated] "What are you going to do?"

MadisonMan said...

David at 806 AM has the best comment. I wish his parents would have turned around and said that as they were escorting him out of school.

edutcher said...

We are talking about a 7 year old, after all, but the pontiffs of PC have to pound down anything that looks like it will OFFEND someone.

And make sure the kids learn early THEY are their lords and masters.

And Retread acts more like a hillbilly than the rest of us put together.

He's Allie Oop in whiteface.

I think that kid should be assigned to watch Stir Crazy

No, wait, Tropic Thunder.

No, wait, 30 Rock.

No, wait, Billy Crystal.

No, wait, Community.

Now go home and think about your skin color.

Last year, I saw a strange scene in front of Wall-mart in Greenville SC. A young woman in gangsta wanna be clothes and black-face make-up was being yelled at by a young black man. I heard him say,” You don't have to black to be a thug. There are plenty of white thugs.”

I didn't hang around to hear more. I gathered from that what I already thought. Blacks don't like whites to pretend to be black. It hurts their feelings.

Crunchy Frog said...

It's not the Right that is pushing race, from now until 11/6.

Never go full retread, Jay.

Too bad they couldn't get someone to block him from going into the school. Wasted opportunity! (Where is George Wallace when you need him?)

Still, now the kid has some idea of what it was like to be a black guy from the '50s, which was, after all, the original intention. This is probably the most education he will get from that school.
