Beloved Dictator was never a good campaign theme, and — I love America! — it blessedly doesn't work. Not in the long run. It's tempting to laugh at Obama and his people for thinking they could make it work and for falling on their faces in Columbus, Ohio.
But I'm thinking: Good for us. In America, we don't idolize politicians.
A reading for Sunday morning: "... banish these thoughts from your Mind..."
A letter written to [George Washington] by Colonel Lewis Nicola... detailed the weakness of a republican form of government as they had experienced it, their desire for "mixed government", with him at its head, and their belief that "the title of king" would be objectionable to but few and of material advantage to the country. His reply was peremptory and indignant. In plain terms he stated his abhorrence of the proposal; he was at a loss to conceive what part of his conduct could have encouraged their address; they could not have found "a person to whom their schemes were more disagreeable"; and he charged them, "if you have any regard for yourself or posterity, or respect for me, to banish these thoughts from your mind, and never communicate, as from yourself or any one else, a sentiment of the like nature."

Obama appears to be just another disconnected Democrat disconnecting Democrats.
He promises free contraception, but not free sex; even his guards have to pay for it. He's discovered a 'trickle down' economy; food stamps create jobs. Big Oil is greasy, Big Government is groovy.
Obama should return to reenacting what and who transpired in the Situation Room during the bin Laden demise, and do his Bob Marley improvisation:

As if we needed further evidence, such quotes providing obvious proof that Obama's genealogy is in no way connected with that of George Washington.
The anti-Christian, Anti-Mormon, Anti-American New York Times didn't tell us in it's article about Obama in Ohio that the arena was less than full.
Today that same Times has a front page article about Freshmen Republican Congressmen not getting done certain things in only 2 years, so why should they be reelected? Yet the mantra about the Boy in the White House is that he hasn't has enough time.
The New York Times is bad for America. Very, very bad for the social fabric and the lack of honest reporting and basic human decency in it's immoral stands.
In Philadelphia, a tour guide tells how he thinks the most important moment in US government took place not in Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were adopted, but in Congress Hall next door, where George Washington peacefully (even gratefully) surrendered executive power to his successor, John Adams. What a wonderful example he set!

Yes, good for America. But these wild pendulum swings are making me dizzy, though.
Think of the Founders' selfless service and loathing for the trappings of royalty, and contrast it with today's deification seeker. Then, instead of despairing, try to use that anger to steer us back to those initial principles, like a true patriot (h/t Pileus):

Allen, yes there are many pictures out there! The question I have is that many articles says the facility "seats 18,000". But that is meant for the actual # of seats NOT including the chairs you set up on the floor of a facility, correct? So... was the turnout even worse for Obama than the adoring media is portraying it to be?
Also, I think the President may have had a talking to the by the little woman last night after he forgot her on the plane when they arrived in Ohio! Gotta see the video!

I have been around for a while,but I just cannot remember any other president acting like this one.
It's true that people long for a father figure/chief executive. Well, most people. But a small percentage long for a vicious junkie bad seed/chief executive. And guess what? their longing has been satisfied. Ain't that great?

Maybe true, but that is the case with a lot of idolized figures. Who talks these days about the adultery of either JFK or MLK? Or, indeed, the international failures of the former or that the latter apparently had a lot of sympathy for communism? Or, that JFK was an strong advocate of tax cuts to encourage economic growth?
What Reagan left us as a legacy, if nothing else, was a fairly clear vision of the evils of big government, communism, socialism, etc., and a lot of quotes and sound bites that seem even more appropriate today.

I mean, to be truthful and not sound delusional, the best you can say "we don't idolize politicians - this time," because we most certainly have a president (that you voted for) who attained power after bring introduced by a charlatan (Oprah) as "The One" and "The Messiah" - and making otherworldly claims to his ability to affect everything from race, policy, world events, and even natural phenomena such as the level of the oceans and the direction of the sun.
And this you called "rational" at the time, while claiming to have been right-on-top of the goings on and issues within the election process.
Should I now segue into how you lecture me as being ugly, and unhelpful to my cause, when I toot my own horn for making accurate predictions (because - even with you in my corner - no one else will) but now you've done two posts on how you accurately predicted the Obama campaign's wrong call on going huge?
