49% to 38% — voters trust Republicans over Democrats on the economy (which they consider the most important issue).

According to a new Rasmussen poll.

Back in January, Republicans had the edge by 47% to 40%, so that's a 2 point shift toward Republicans, the highest since last October. Voters have favored Republicans over Democrats on the economy since June 2009.

Personally, I trust private citizens of any stripe over politicians of any.
Of course that's only based on facts, history, and common sense.

We're supposed to trust the establishment RINO's who label Paul a kook? That's right, don't end the Fed stick with the Fed, folks, and everythin's gawna be awright.

The trick is to convert this into an electoral victory. That's always a problem for Republicans.

End the fed and replace it with . . . . . ?

What?

Let politicians set monetary policy? Gold?

There are too many politicians and not enough gold to do either of those things.

Replacing the fed would be a gigantic disaster.

Isn't that a 4% swing in the poll spread?

It seems like party not in Presidential Power is never trusted to work with Economy.

Why is that?

No Republican I know label's Paul as a "kook" with regards to domestic policy.

But when the US funds most of the operations of organizations like the United Nations, NATO, and World Bank, we cant have a foreign policy like the one Paul envisions.

"it's the economy, stupid!"

Fortunately for the democrats the republicans have this amazing ability to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory. I hope that this time, they don't blow it. Otherwise we will be facing ten years of a near depression economy. Ricpic it's guys like you that stayed home in 2008 that help elect Obama. THere are going to be only two viable candidates in November so think this through.

The gold bugs are almost as crazy as the progressives. There isn't enough gold in the world to back up the dollar to begin with and although the gold standard was effective in the 19th and early 20th centuries as a tool of curbing inflation the price of having depressions every ten years or so wasn't and isn't worth it. The federal reserve bank needs to have it's mission changed to only maintaining the value of the currency and nothing more. But in order to do that not only must it's mission be changed but the deficits need to be eliminated entirely and immediately and that just isn't going to happen.

David - I think pegging gold to the dollar at a much higher price than the $35 gold was at when Nixon took us off the gold standard would solve the problem of not enough gold.

cubanbob - I thought being a non-voter gave me the right to say dangerous things like "End the Fed" as opposed to responsible things like "Trust the Fed" as the roar of the falls gets louder and louder.

I agree - Joe Biden's chaired something called The Middle Class Task Force and I bet it did not have even one person from the middle class. We need to start appointing some cops or firemen or truck drivers or accountants or small business owners to some of these fix-the-econonmy fix-the-tax-system commissions.

Aren't there some White Hispanic racists or woman haters we should be talking about? Certainly not the economy.

Concluding anything from a change of this magnitude is about as reliable as concluding anything from the distribution of tea leaves. It's not to say something hasn't changed, but the poll isn't giving you much evidence. If anything it's giving you evidence that nothing has changed.

Yet when you put an actual flesh & blood Republican in front of people they run like Vietnamese from napalm.

ricpic it is still a free country so voter or non-voter you can say what you want but don't moan about Obama getting reelected when people like you don't vote. Not the best choices, I agree but those are the choices and not voting is the same as voting for Obama and the democrats.

No, that's incorrect.

Track record is moving this.

GodZero was busy playing Chicago ward-heeler and listening to his Ivy League friends and doing what they said. None of it worked.

Except for a few Marxist biases, this guy had no input and proved himself the original empty suit.

Isn't this like a game of "Would you rather?" You know, "Would you rather go swimming in a waste treatment facility or stick your head in a wasp nest for five minutes?" Add a jar of pickles to the list and see how the numbers skew:

"Who do you trust more with the economy? Republicans, Democrats, or this jar of pickles?"

Republicans -- 1%
Democrats -- .8%
Jar of Pickles -- 94%
Don't know -- 4.2%

3% sampling error. There has probably been an increase in people's preference for Republicans on the issue, but not by enough to really say so conclusively.

53% of the dolts what vote thought race trumped economics. Now they're looking for a job. Buncha dumbasses.

Nah. In 2008, Obama was more trusted on these issues than McCain. (The campaign suspension hurt. McCain seemed unsteady, capricious.)

Now, of course, people can judge Obama on his own performance.
