There is a scene in the movie, Primary Colors, where a drug dealer, who is also an addict, tells the campaign staff of John Travolta that his opponent (who had drug problems) should "never get back into the game".

The man had quit, had problems, and now was back in game. He was losing.

This scene reminds me of Newt, Rick S. and Jon H.

They should not get into the game. They (and Perry) are toast.

What if Romney selects Paul Ryan as his VP?

Oh my lord, what a thrilling victory. It will also be if he selects Jindal or Christie. I wish there was a strong, standard-bearer, female GOP like them now.

In the movie, Untouchables, Niro plays Capone and says about Ness:
I want him dead, dead.

That reminds me of Newt. He hates Romney so much that he is going kamakazi.

Romney wins the nomination, then the White House. All he needs now is a great VP.

I have seen a box turtle or two in our backyard every season from the almost dry creek we have back there. One time in all the excitement, I grabbed my camera and the flash went off and distressed the poor turtle enough to pee (I was ashamed of myself for putting it through that).

Meanwhile back in southern Wisconsin, a light dusting of snow threatens civilization as we know it.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett held a press conference this afternoon to advise and caution Milwaukee residents, tourists and day-workers regarding this dire circumstance and describe how his administration is preparing for it.

More like preventive maintenance.

This will be an issue if he's nominated. Better to get the material out now.

Few people know how the Lefties slime you like Miss Sarah.

Whoever designed that bird was an artist. The neck curves just right and the wings are exactly proportional to the body, neck and head.It must be a Texas Egret.

The turtles are cute, but not designed as well.

And the bikini clad young ladies like we see around the Las Vegas and Los Angeles pools have already flown south for the winter. So the best designed art is MIA.

Another sleepless night tonight. As I slip further and further into depression about the country, and my life, its always nice to see beauty in nature. Thank you Ann.

My wife (she's not, she won't marry me, but we've been together for 12 years now) has been ill for the past week. Confused, forgetful, addled even. Pains in her legs, and chest. Crying spells.

She takes so many prescriptions that we thought it might be a reaction to the combination. Anyway, she stopped taking the meds. Didn't help.

Finally, as a last resort she agreed to go to the doctor yesterday morning. She was sent to the imagining clinic later.

Wish it was meds. She's got either a brain tumor, or had a stroke.

We'll know more today. She's getting more imagining done.

I'm getting mushy (can't spell maudlin) but appreciate your time with your loved ones. Don't let stupid arguments push you apart. We're all each other have, don't waste it.

I've got to go, I've got crying to do while she can't see me.

ciao.

Depending on severity (if a stroke) and the time frame, there may be more that can be done than you think.

Hang in.

Carnifex, I can relate. Stay strong for your lady. And pray.

Hide in your shell cos the world is out to bleed you for a ride
What will you gain making your life a little longer?
Heaven or Hell, was the journey cold that gave your eyes of steel?
Shelter behind painting your mind and playing joker

Too Frightening to listen to a stranger
Too Beautiful to put your pride in danger
You're waiting for someone to understand you
But you've got demons in your closet
And you're screaming out to stop it
Saying life's begun to cheat you
Friends are out to beat you
Grab on to what you scramble for

Don't let the tears linger on inside now
Cos it's sure time you gained control
If I can help you, if I can help you
If I can help you, just let me know
Well, let me show you the nearest signpost
To get your heart back and on the road
If I can help you, if I can help you
If I can help you, just let me know.

All through the night as you lie awake and hold yourself so tight
What do you need, a second-hand-movie-star to tend you?
I as a boy, I believed the saying the cure for pain was love
How would it be if you could see the world through my eyes?

Too Frightening- the fire's getting colder
Too Beautiful- to think you're getting older
You're looking for someone to give an answer.
But what you see is just an illusion
You're surrounded by confusion
Saying life's begun to cheat you
Friends are out to beat you
Grab on to what you can scramble for
Don't let the tears...
... just let me know
I wanna know...
I wanna know you...
Well let me know you
I wanna feel you
I wanna touch you
Please let me near you
Can you hear what I'm saying?
Well I'm hoping, I'm dreamin', I'm prayin'
I know what you're thinkin'
See what you're seein'
Never ever let yourself go

Hold yourself down, hold yourself down
Why d'ya hold yourself down?
Why don't you listen, you can
Trust me,
There's a place I know the way to
A place there is need to feel you
Feel that you're alone
Hear me
I know exactly what you're feelin'
cos all your troubles are within you
please begin to see that I'm just bleeding to
Love me, love you
Loving is the way to Help me, help you
- Why must we be so cool, oh so cool?
Oh, we're such damn fools...

Ha, I'm 54 and the same way. When I see them at the golf course I'm all "Look at the turtles!"

I think it's because as a kid turtles are wild life that you can actually pick up and touch.

Ok, it does not say "biggest source of conflict in the U.S."...did you even look at it?

And this, to reinforce Pogo response:

"survey found that younger adults, women, Democrats and African Americans are somewhat more likely than older people, men, Republicans, whites or Hispanics to say there are strong disagreements between rich and poor."

Obama voters. Sell 'em on class warfare. Then wreck the economy. Blame it on the "haves".

As a result, in the public’s evaluations of divisions within American society, conflicts between rich and poor now rank ahead of three other potential sources of group tension—between immigrants and the native born; between blacks and whites; and between young and old. Back in 2009, more survey respondents said there were strong conflicts between immigrants and the native born than said the same about the rich and the poor.

While blacks are still more likely than whites see serious class conflicts, the share of whites who hold this view has increased by 22 percentage points, to 65%, since 2009

Now even Republicans like Perry and Gingrich are getting into the Marxist act. Picking on poor vulture capitalists like Bain. Sheesh!

Wince said...

Take it away Karl Marx:

Manifesto of the Communist Party

Chapter I. Bourgeois and Proletarians

The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles.

Freeman and slave, patrician and plebeian, lord and serf, guild-master and journeyman, in a word, oppressor and oppressed, stood in constant opposition to one another, carried on an uninterrupted, now hidden, now open fight, a fight that each time ended, either in a revolutionary reconstitution of society at large, or in the common ruin of the contending classes.

In the earlier epochs of history, we find almost everywhere a complicated arrangement of society into various orders, a manifold gradation of social rank. In ancient Rome we have patricians, knights, plebeians, slaves; in the Middle Ages, feudal lords, vassals, guild-masters, journeymen, apprentices, serfs; in almost all of these classes, again, subordinate gradations.

The modern bourgeois society that has sprouted from the ruins of feudal society has not done away with class antagonisms. It has but established new classes, new conditions of oppression, new forms of struggle in place of the old ones.

Our epoch, the epoch of the bourgeoisie, possesses, however, this distinct feature: it has simplified class antagonisms. Society as a whole is more and more splitting up into two great hostile camps, into two great classes directly facing each other — Bourgeoisie and Proletariat.

Wince said...

Loved my time in Austin. City lake is a wonder, I wish we had its like here. We just have a muddy Ohio River with a interstate looming over it. Have you dined at the Oasis? I would suggest the Professor swing by just for the view, but the food! OMG!

And stay for the bats!

I made an attempt to "see" the bats. Much like my attempt to see a night landing of the space shuttle it wa a total failure. Bats and space shuttles don't carry landing lights. (with photoshop, my pics did develop, you can "see" bats)

@Garage

It would probably shock you to know that many conservatives feel like you do. That's the reason why the base of the Reps hate their choices (and their party). There are NO conservatives left. I think a lot of liberals, and what-ever you call the people in the middle (sheep?), mistake Reps for conservatives. They, and we, are not one and the same.

The Rep elite (Boehner, McConnel, Rove, et al) are moderate Dems. They want to spend money we don't have. They want to do it slower than the Dems, and get the credit for it, but that's the only difference.

A conservative knows a cut in spending is NOT a reduction in the rate of increase.

A conservative knows that the answer to the housing fiasco is not more regulation.

A conservative knows that while you might not like what the other guy is saying, he has a right to say it.

A conservative knows that you're right to free speech doesn't extend to private events.

A conservative knows that a gun can never act on its own.

A conservative knows you can make a country strong as a melting pot, but not as a Balkanized state.

A conservative knows that it's what a man does, not the color of his skin, that makes him a man.

I have known all of those things for all of my life, and I have lived out each and every one of those things for all of my life--with some imperfections, of course, because I, like everyone, am human, therefore profoundly imperfect.

Each, and every, one of those things.
