Police versus Occupy protesters in Oakland.

Lots of photos and video.
At around 9:30 p.m., there was a tense faceoff between protesters and police officers on Broadway at 14th Street. About 100 officers, some appearing to be sheriff’s deputies, stood behind a metal barricade in full riot gear and wearing gas masks, while on the other side people pressed against the barricade, waving peace signs and chanting slogans. A few protesters hurled objects — what looked like water bottles — at the police, while over a loud speaker, officers instructed people to disperse or risk “chemical agents.”
The street-level video looks very chaotic and dramatic. It's pure emotion. Hard for the police to look good from this perspective:

That's why the leftists agitators do it that way. They provoke a police action, video it and then use/rely on the media to present their side only and leave out the provocations.

Well.

Considering that
There were a series of safety conditions, including numerous reports of fighting, assault and threatening/intimidating behavior" at the camp, police said in a statement. Medical responders could not get to the scene to provide medical care on at least two occasions, and fire and police also could not get through.

"Sanitation conditions worsened with frequent instances of public urination and defecation, as well as improper food storage," the police statement said. "The existing rodent problem in the park was exacerbated, and authorities were unable to control it because of the campers' presence. Graffiti, litter and vandalism also posed problems, police said.

Your statement is open to interpretation...

Indeed, hard for them to look like anything. I'm not sure if they even appeared on this video. Was that a cop in the distance toward the end, walking with a flashlight?

How dreadful. He could have dilated someone's pupils with that thing.

We see a flashbang set off by...someone. And we see what appears to be a tear gas canister, hurled from the direction of the crowd.

Yes, this is just a nightmare. It's like Kent State, only with less actual shooting and death. I just wish that these poor protesters could be treated just as they would in those parts of the world run more to their liking -- North Korea, Venezuela, Cuba. Nothing like this right-wing hellhole, Oakland.

And still the Tea Party is dissed by the media as extemists, racists, and nativists, while these OWS prtests are full of antisemitism, signs urging people to practice cannibalism on the "rich", defecation on private property, outward Communists, and hundreds of arrests.
Could it be any more plain?

These protests are organized by the Usurper's Community organizing arms. Designed to fire up the base, and cause chaos. This is what they do. MSM has been instructed to stand down, and don't criticize. More violence is coming.

If the Tea Partiers had been doing the same thing as the OWS people are doing, I'd be completely behind the police doing the exact same thing.

Mitochonri, if I had to guess, I'd say that those women who were pepper-sprayed (not maced, there's a difference) spit on the police.

The police, who don't want to bring HIV or hepatitis or some other godawful disease home to their families, responded to a potentially lethal threat with non-lethal force and remarkable restraint.

But I wasn't there, I'm just speculating. Maybe in this age of litigiousness, the NYPD consists of a bunch of rogue Dirty Harry Callahans with pepper spray instead of a .44, and they just squirt the stuff around like silly string at a birthday party.

Yeah, that seems likely.

This sad tired kabuki theater!

The rabble throws things and cavorts provocatively for the camera in their rabble uniforms. The cops put on their riot gear costumes and fire their non-lethal weapons for the camera.

The nostalgia that fuels this is old and busted, though. And the intended audience is fast asleep on the couch by 9:30 p.m.

And the rabble doesn't really care about revolution; they wouldn't have the first clue of what to do if an actual revolution broke out. They're ignorant nihilists.

And the cops don't really want the rabble to disperse completely; the rabble are the shock troops of the political party that ensures their comfortable early retirement.

The "movement" the Democrats have gone all in on, in action:

Three young punks threatened to kill a 24-year-old Occupy Wall Street protester for pressing charges over an assault at the group's Zuccotti Park encampment, police said.
"You got our friend arrested. We're gonna kill you! Watch your back!" the trio warned the young woman on Monday - two days after her complaint led to the arrest of Garfield Leslie, police said Tuesday.

Leslie, 19, of Brooklyn, had offered to sell the woman drugs at the downtown sit-in, police said.

When she declined that offer and his romantic advances, he punched her in the face and then dished out more blows to a friend who had come to her defense, police said.

After clocking the friend, police said, Leslie then punched the man's girlfriend for good measure.

Lovely people.

And this, like, happened all the time at Tea Party rallies (which were orders of magnitude larger), you know.

GM, you're being willfully ignorant if you think they have been "peaceful" the entire time they've been there. When first-responders cannot get to people needing them, it's time to break things up.

Pastafarian said...

Don't feel too bad, Mitochondri. I see that "Anonymous" has just "leaked" the name and contact information of the officer who sprayed these women.

So I'm sure you'll get your pound of flesh soon enough. I would imagine some OWS freedom fighter will firebomb his house, and kill not only him but his misbegotten progeny.

Yay, team.

By the way, do you notice, in that pepper-spray (not mace) video, the way that those women are hunching their shoulders and rolling them forward before they're sprayed? We can't see their faces, so we can only guess what's going on there.

They appear to be shrieking just as loud as they can at officers about 6 feet away from them, who are attempting to get another suspect under control.

Oh, but wait, that's free speech. If I see an arrest going down, I can go right up to any police barricade, and push it just as far as it will go, and shriek into the faces of the arresting officers.

Right?

In contrast to law enforcement in Oakland, the police in Albany, NY ignored a directive to arrest protestors as explained by the D.A. of Albany county:

And they were concerned that this directive would have, of course, compromised all of the efforts they had been making in that regard. And during the course of that conversation, I did inform them that we would decline to prosecute any of the arrests, based upon the fact that, unless there were injuries to police officers, or damages to property, then the people should be allowed to protest and exercise their First Amendment right. In Albany, we’re accustomed to dealing with protests and protesters all the time. We also have several universities, colleges nearby and our concern was — if we began to arrest people, and the media was capturing images of grandparents or children being hauled off to jail, this might spark more people onto the streets.
And, of course, that hasn’t happened. The protesters have been fine. We have been maintaining a great dialogue with the organizers and,for the most part,a lot of credit should go to the organizers for maintaining a wonderful protest, and there has been no violence. garage, here's the list of citations the Oakland police provided to the protesters throughout the camp last Friday, Oct. 21. Note that it says that those failing to vacate will be subject to arrest. The police re-visited on Tuesday morning and again warned in person that the park had to be vacated. In the afternoon, on the third visit, when protesters started pelting the cops with paint cans, the police used tear gas. As much as I'm against today's militarized police forces, these protesters provoked the cops to get exactly the spectacle they wanted. No sympathy.

¶ The most affluent fifth of the population received 53 percent of after-tax household income in 2007, up from 43 percent in 1979. In other words, the after-tax income of the most affluent fifth exceeded the income of the other four-fifths of the population.

¶ People in the middle three-fifths of the population saw their shares of after-tax income decline by 2 to 3 percentage points from 1979 to 2007.

Meaning, POSSIBLY, that Illegal immigration has driven down the standard of living for Native Americans, with few or no skills…though it raises the Standard for the Illegal Immigrants. So, the number you so proudly display that “PROVES” some point, is subject to a number of interpretations two of which would be:

WASHINGTON -- The Oakland Police Department fired tear gas on Occupy Oakland demonstrators Tuesday night as they marched through downtown, determined to reclaim the camp that officers destroyed that morning. As the marchers zigged and zagged in search of safe ground, authorities bombarded and barricaded the activists into a drawn-out stalemate that resulted in further arrests.

The local police's use of force seriously injured an Occupy activist and Iraq War veteran.

Okay, so why did this happen? Any thoughts? Any specific occurrences that show causality? Is it merely official government economic policy that explains the statistics? Tax policy alone?

What other factors could be involved?

Is it inherently bad for society? I would assume that you believe so, and would empathize with tax the rich policies under the aegis of fairness.

Is it easier to increase income more easily in an increasing globalized economy rather than in a more closed, national economy?

Is it easier to more greatly increase income in an age of information?

Is the increase at the top directly related to a decrease at the bottom? Is it at the expense of the bottom fifth?

Has their been a systemic abuse of the laws which govern our society that have resulted in such?

TARP and Stimulus were two different pieces of legislation. TARP was signed by Bush, Treasury only dispersed around $450 billion of the $700 billion fund, a big bulk of it has been paid back (with interest), and currently CBO projects it will ultimately cost taxpayers $19 billion that we'll never see again.

Stimulus, or the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, signed by Obama, was supposed to cost $700 billion, ended up costing $847 billion (and still rising), did not stimulate the economy as much as promised/projected, and is essentially $847 billion we'll never see again.

People confuse the two because they cost about the same and were supposed to do roughly the same thing--prop up a poor economy. But the effects of both could not be more different!

And yet you never answered, most likely because you CAN’T…it’s like quoting a Rasmussen or any other poll, without looking at the cross-tabs and sampling information you can’t tell much about VALIDITY…so why did those two points get chosen, 1979 and 2007? They are NOT intuitively obvious, 28 years? Why, could it be because 1979 was a LOW point and 2007 a HIGH point, and hence the differences would be dramatic, but not necessarily REPRESENTATIVE?

No Scott and I aren’t particularly close, he being some kind of airplane exit freak and believer in the CEZA…I just believe he is nailing your sad @$$ on points and felt it needed to be pounded home.

SPImmortal - Once again: George W. Bush signed the bank bailout bill.

Are you still
saying he didn't sign it?

Joe - Oh, give me a break.

The kid deserves exactly what he got, maybe even to die...because he was in the way?

Are you crazy?

He wasn't in the way. He was there with the rest of the mob to attack the cops, after attacking them earlier in the day, after being forcibly dispersed for all manner of criminal activity.

People here aren't in favor of violent mobs, especially commie mobs filled with vagrant white trash. As a general it's your own doing if your one involved with a mob and get hurt.

DESERVES, no doesn’t DESERVE to die, only Yhwh can make that judgment, MAY die, because he was at the wrong place and time….so sorry if that bothers you.

Not completely accurate. Only about half the 700 billion in funds allocated by TARP I were used. Obama signed TARP II which spent the other half, plus the stimulus on top of that.

Whoops! I didn't realize TARP 2 was its own legislation. I only ever heard of it as Treasury deciding to use the original, unspent TARP funds as stimulus, but didn't hear of them actually doing it. Thanks for pointing that out.
