We get an extra day in NY state. Columbus is Italian, like our governor. It gives me an extra day to catch up. You need more Italians in Wisconsin! Sometimes it seems like a flat earth society over there.

While in a meeting I was doing tasks on the iPad like mail, etc., as opposed to listening intently, when I clicked Safari instead of my mail, right next to it.

Althouse was there.

The guy sitting next to me groaned. "I never read her" he said.

But clearly, he did.

Check out Drudge!!

He has a video of Occupy Atlanta telling Rep. John Lewis to take a hike.

It also reminded me of an old Star Trek episode..."The Way to Eden"

Tyrone Slothrop...I was reading your favorable comments on HotAir about Herman Cain.

The man is lapping the field while Perry and Romney are still taking breaks.

The other commenters over there accused me of being a paid staff member working for Herman.

Cain is all the excitement we have left after the Braves and the Falcons crashed.

And paranoia is in the air at HotAir.

The Solyndra thing reminds me of a tale I was told in the 60's about a sharp operator who seeded an area in the New Mexico high desert with wheat (none grew, of course), and then collected farm sunsidy for not doing that agin.

He was one of the A-Team's pursuers for all those years and, before that, he played the scout in a short-lived Western, "The Oregon Trail".

He's probably best remembered as one of Sly Stallone's nemeses (nemesises?) in the second Rambo.

But, yeah, I tend to follow a lot of the character actors.

PS Too good to keep.

Zero wanted to stop at Hiroshima and Nagasaki during the apology tour, but the Japanese objected.

Considering only 41% want a second term for him (listening, AP?), Axelrod must be hoping nobody remembers WWII.

You say swim trunks, but they are pretty bad as swim trunks. I would not expect the Duke to wear a speedo either.

It is the poster of why shorts in public are unholy and wrong. The man-purse/camera bag only adds insult to injury.

Congrats to Prof. Thomas Sargent on winning the Nobel for Economics. Perhaps the Nobel committee is trying to rehab the bad name it's given itself in other disciplines?

Sargent quotes:
*“The calculations that I have seen supporting the stimulus package are back-of-the-envelope ones that ignore what we have learned in the last 60 years of macroeconomic research.”
*"Europe’s generous unemployment compensation system has made an important contribution to sustained high European unemployment." "If, in the United States, we create a system where unemployment and disability benefits are permanently extended in their generosity and their duration, we will inadvertently put ourselves into the situation that much of Europe has suffered for three decades."
*“What induced one major Western country after another to run a more-or-less balanced budget in the 19th century and early 20th century before World War I was their decision to adhere to the gold standard.”
*"Nothing can be more surely established by a larger experience than that a Government which interferes with any trade injures that trade. "

Top story on Drudge right now is how Al Qaeda is questioning the legality of the killing of Al-Awlaki and Samir Khan (the other "American" guy who ate the drone sandwich). I just laughed and said, "Hey, Al Qaeda! See my finger?!"

Other stories about Obama the Loner were also interesting. He's going all Milhous-y on us.

Clyde said...

I also liked this story from the UK: Children to be banned from blowing up balloons under EU safety rules

As well as new rules for balloons and party whistles, the EU legislation will impose restrictions on how noisy toys, including rattles or musical instruments, are allowed to be.

All teddie bears meant for children under the age of three will now have to be fully washable because EU regulators are concerned that dirty cuddly toys could spread disease and infection.

...

"These safety standards have been agreed by the UK together with the other EU member states in order to prevent every parent's worst nightmare," said a spokesman.

Another EU official admitted that the new regulations could be difficult to understand but insisted that safety experts knew best.

"You might say that small children have been blowing up balloons for generations, but not anymore and they will be safer for it," said an official.

Imagine if those EU "experts" regulated their currency as well as they regulated children's toys. No balloons for you, Greeks!

I saw the recent Stallone film, The Expendables. The movie featured a number of the older action stars doing their action star thing. There were lots of explosions and guys saying manly things before they beat each other to death. You got your money's worth I suppose, but even for a Stallone film it was very formulaic and manipulative. I wish to draw particular attention to the water boarding scene. Since when did water boarding become the preferred method of torture for evil masterminds. Saddam had a harness rigged to drop his victims in vats of acid. Al Queada used to use power drills on their victims. They started on the knees and worked their way up. Those methodd are far more diabolical and cinematic than waterboarding. Nevertheless, this movie used waterboarding. I think this is meant as a subliminal way of showing us how evil Bush/Cheney really are--although I'm not discounting the possiblity that Stallone is simply stupid. Many of you are probably saying that for exploitation purposes, waterboarding offers an excellent opportunity to indulge in wet t-shirt action. No such luck. If the young woman who was being waterboarded had nipples, there were not in evidence that scene.....I know that there is a huge overlap of Stallone fans and Althouse followers so I just want to warn them away from this film.

Lighten up, it's a movie. Most people watch them to be entertained, only a few expect to be (ahem...) enlightened.

Never heard about the acid, although I read Saddam got the idea for feeding people he didn't like into an industrial shredder from "License To Kill". So I guess life imitated art.

Or something.

In any case, having sat through the Left-wing drivel that is the plot of "RED", I can say it does have its moments and, if you can turn off your brain to the usual Hollyweird paranoia about "war crimes" and secret organizations, Bruce Willis, John Malkovitch, Morgan Freeman (don't worry, he isn't in it that much), and Helen Mirren (looking smashing, may I say) make a pretty good B+ Team.
