Stop making me feel old.
Cobb is a great player. So why did most of the draft gurus overlook him?He was also a QB his Freshman year, so he can also throw a pass back to Aaron Rodgers.Green Bay is being unfair to the rest of the league.
Today I learned = TIL
It's the start of a dynasty.
OT -On Drudge now, Janet Napolitano shows how she would hold off an attack from Justice Bradley. All together, the images on Drudge present present a compelling visual essay on hand gestures.
The quality that just about everyone overlooks when evaluating football players is BALANCE. It is important in all positions but particularly @ the skill positions. Well folks, that kickoff return displayed this kids incredible balance.
Waaa Hooo!! Randall Cobb!!!Watched play once at Alcoa High School in Tennessee in the semi-final for the state championship. Awesome all the way around. Team and individual players. Alcoa's working on its 8th or 9th straight state championship.Alcoa and neighboring Maryville play some of the best high school football in the country.(I try to ignore that he played at Kentucky in college.)
Low center of gravity. LOL.He was overlooked because he played here at little ole Kentucky.Every time he touched the football, there was a chance he would go all the way.
Randall "Tex" Cobb is the also the name of an all around, genuine character here in Philly who was a pro heavyweight boxer, actor, and an OL at Abilene Christian. "OL" = offensive linemen. If you have questions, "AMAT" = ask me about this.
I'm glad he plays for us!
When Randall returned a kickoff from 8 yards deep in the end zone, he broke the Packer Coach's rules for KO returners. But he said God told him to do it, so he did it anyway.I am glad he is willing to listen.
He was overlooked because he played here at little ole Kentucky.Yeah. I live in the Maysville, KY and every time Kentucky played I cursed the Tennessee coaches for not signing this guy. But, not too much. UT's had its head up its butt the last few years and didn't deserve a player like Cobb.AJ - Randall "Tex" Cobb was great in "Raising Arizona" and every other movie I saw him in. Wonderful character actor.
I thought Randall Cobb was a bad actor and a worse boxer.......http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randall_%22Tex%22_Cobb
Dadvocate- Tex attends the boxing matches at the Blue Horizon and he always gets introduced to the crowd. He is still a local celebrity. I think he was probably 240-250 lbs when he played football in college but now he looks like a lean 195-200lbs. Last time, I saw him the girl he was with had purple hair. I agree he was great in that movie.
Gahrie: Cobb served as an obstacle for up and coming boxers. He had a role and he played it just like he did as an actor.
I thought Randall Cobb was a bad actor and a worse boxer.......Don't tell him to his face.In movies, I always took him as a comic character, an over the top stereotype of sorts.
Then, there are other people who care about football, or so they think, but, they don't know much about the game... yet, they sell large bras. Go figure.
Randall "Tex" Cobb (as Leonard Smalls in Raising Arizona) gave one of my favorite movie lines: "Price. A fair price. That's not what you say it is, and it's not what I say it is... It's what the market will bear."Randall "Not Tex" Cobb gave one of my favorite kickoff returns for a touchdown last night!
At least they're still all younger than my kids.
At least they're still all younger than my kids. You mean OLDER, right? Is your age showing?!?
Oops. Long Day. Yeah, they're older than my kids.
Men in green tights. They're like leprechauns. Jumping and winning's their game. It was an excellent one.Vince Lombardy watches overhead.
OK, a couple things:1. There were 14 rookies drafted last April that were born in 1990, and at least some of them will play this Sunday. So this is something of a fluke of scheduling (Cobb will beat out whomever is #2 by about 2.5 days).2. Cobb is the first to play in an NFL regular season game. Again, because of scheduling, at least some of those 14 rookies mentioned above played their first preseason game a day or two before the Packers (and Randall Cobb) played their first preseason game.3. Go, Pack, Go!
I thought Randall Cobb was a bad actor and a worse boxer.......Can't speak to his acting ability, but Tex Cobb was a pretty good boxer in his day. His reputation suffered when he took a severe beating from Larry Holmes in 1982, which overlooks the fact that (a) Cobb went the full 15 rounds against Holmes, and (b) Holmes is one of the all time greats. Cobb has wins over former heavyweight champion Leon Spinks (granted, on the downslope of Spinks' career) and Earnie Shavers, possibly the hardest-punching boxer of all time.Cobb ended his career with a very good record of 43-7-1.Peter
These guys are good.Jordy Nelson, supposedly the least athletic of the Packer wide recievers, had the following athletic record in high school.1. State 3A track champion in 100, 200, 400 meter runs and long jump.2. Quarterback of state 3A champion football team.3. All conference guard (he's 6-3) on conference champ basketball team.Plus he helped old ladies across the street every chance he got.
Ok..Mea culpa.....He was actually a better boxer than i remembered...the Holmes fight did make a big impression on me....besides that...I will never say a bad thing about him again after I learned this: Howard Cosell quit covering boxing because he was so disgusted by Cobb's one-sided loss to Larry Holmes in 1982. In response, Cobb said, "If I eliminate heart disease, if I walk on water, if I come up with a cure for crippled kids, I can't image a greater gift to mankind."
It was a great game. As well as the Packers played the Saints were in it until the end. Geaux Saints... we'll see you in the championship game.
