The latest bit of news on Michelle Bachmann has "bad optics" as they say. With her agricultural subsidy, Fed reimbursement for "counseling" for her husbands biz, and many Fed services and dozens of Fedchecks arriving at one time each month for her foster children biz at it's peak. Add another for the former IRS litigation tax collector attorney.Turns out Bachmann got a 417,000 dollar Fed subsidized loan for a new dreamhouse two weeks before she introduced a bill to outlaw the loan guarantees as "extravagent waste of taxpayer's money."Shorthand."I got mine, I got mine! Sweet money, sweet wealth! Great house at a taxpayer-funded once in a lifetime opporunity. Umm...you know, many other DC insiders have said it would be really wrong for others to benefit like I did! I should introduce legislation to bar others, and to showcase me as the taxpayer's watchdog, the spunky Palin Jr. anti-Government pork queen!"Her reaction today? "I feel a big migrane coming on".
Anyone who would willingly go to a movie called "Fire From The Heartland" will probably love it.I'd much rather see a movie called "Heart From The Fireland".
Mama grizzlies!Conservative women, the Lefties are scared to death of them. And rightly so!PS "foster children biz"?Cram it. Bachmann must have Jewish ancestry.
I always hated the term "Heartland". What the hell is that supposed to mean, anyway? That either end of the country is "Brainland" and "Rectumland"?That's assuming it's called "heart" because it's in the middle. But if that's the case, it's wrong, since the heart is not in the center of the human body. The human center of mass is usually right below the navel. So should we instead call it "Gutland"?Or is "Heartland" meant to suggest that it's the "heart" of the country in a metaphysical sense? Well, who decided that? What are the rest of us, chopped fucking liver? (No, since the liver is near the center of mass...)
Bachmann must have Jewish ancestry. No, she just has boobs. Cedarford's always been as weird about women as he is about Jews, he just doesn't assign them as much power. - Lyssa
The Lefties love them. It looks so desperate to keeping trying to find a "hot" candidate. Bachmann, Sarah and good old Christine would be on any Dem dream ticket for the R's. A little bit slutty and a little bit nutty makes a good tabloid show but does not work much in a general election.
Take heart dear Palladian: Brooklyn is just across the East River from the "nerve center." Across the Hudson River is the armpit. I once dated a girl who referred to all of Long Island as a "glacial skid mark." She was making a geographical point, of course.Don't shoot me, I only remember what I hear.
Cunts. All. Well, a few are fluffer cunts.
She was making a geographical point, of course."Geological" not "geographic". My bad. She wasn't being graphic, rather logical. She was from LI too so don't think she was prejudiced.
Usually the purpose of any movie with the word "heartland" in it is to make me give even more tax money to farmers than I already am. I'd like to believe this one is different, but the fact that they're pushing it in Iowa makes me suspicious.
White women are allowed to tell it like it is about a Black man. They are not seen as part of the good old boy white male establishment of the last 100 years. In fact they were outsiders too. Then along came the 19th Amendment 90 years ago. These warrior women feel no guilt about taking back the power that the Good Old white Boys quit using 45 years ago.It is like Scarlet O'Hara and Ashley Wilkes staging a revival of the novel, "Gone With the Wind". What ever shall we do when Palin wins the Presidency?
Well, hell, the link is to an Atlantic article. No wonder. What's being pushed in Iowa is not the original movie. The original covered about 15 IIRC conservative women. That firefromtheheartland.com is a Bachman promo thing. They bought the movie and edited it down to a promo piece for Bachman. Bannon was coproducer of the original.
What ever shall we do when Palin wins the Presidency?Well, since that day will never come because (a) she won't run for President or (b) if she runs, she loses (particularly if Rick Perry runs against her in the primary), we don't have to worry about what ever we shall do in that circumstance. But what ever will you do once it becomes clear a Palin Presidency will never happen? You've spent a lot of energy promoting that concept, so the letdown is bound to be painful.
Well, it is worth noting that our heartland, which you can also refer to as America's Bible Belt ... produces mighty tough women.Probably because you need to wake early to milk the cows. And, if you don't listen to the women ... you'll never be fed, again, ever in your life.
Somefeller... Yes, Rick Perry is fine with me. Perry is a man of faith. And such a man probably will win over Obama, as Jeb Bush is suddenly waking up to realize.I wonder if Perry has made up his mind that he can win the GOP establishment's financial support for the nomination yet?Perry wants to know if the eyes of Texas are upon him or upon Bush III.But I agree that Palin may never get the chance that Perry has worked so hard for these past few weeks.Palin's best chance for the nomination seems to be for Perry and Bush to knock one another out.
Fair enough. I don't see Jeb Bush jumping in, but Perry is uniquely suited to link up the Tea Party and Establishment factions. But make no mistake, when push comes to shove he'll side with the latter.
Trad Guy wrote: Yes, Rick Perry is fine with me. Perry is a man of faith. And such a man probably will win over Obama, as Jeb Bush is suddenly waking up to realize.Does that make Jeb Bush like Beau Biden in the DE 2010 Gov race?
Maybe "Fire In The Hole From The Heartland " would work for some people.Maybe.
I just wish Steve Bannon was more talented.
Carol, The Heartland and The Bible Belt are two separate areas. They are both where real Americans live, except Madison, but two very distinct areas. One is fat Midwesterns. And the other is fat Southerns. If they were technology proficient they would use products developed by the Unamerican part of the country.
Titus - or should I rename you TIT-us?
Is this supposed to be the Althouse cafe of yesterday? On some days there are a number so labeled. On others, there are some. On others, guessing is involved, I guess. Is this one of those?
"Well, it is worth noting that our heartland, which you can also refer to as America's Bible Belt ... produces mighty tough women.Probably because you need to wake early to milk the cows."Maybe you should just milk the women. They seem at least as dumb as the cows.Gender politics will end badly for everyone, left and right. This is nothing but a stupid contest that the boys aren't invited to.
HIRE FROM THE FARTLAND.Now you're talking.
