"I wrote a letter to the president a few months ago. I talked about how I lost my dad on 9/11 and how I like Justin Bieber."

From Ground Zero today:
After laying down a wreath of red, white and blue flowers near Survivor Tree at the Trade Center site, Obama warmly embraced [Payton Wall, 14].

"I was practicing my handshake all day, but he gave me a hug," said the ecstatic teen.

"He told us he knows Justin," she said. Obama added that she could meet him some time soon.

Too bad he didn't act with similar class when he met Debra Burlingame.

So very very sad.

I'm sorry, but why is he there on 5/5/11?

Am I missing something, other than the icing of Bin Laden?

I mean, it's all well and good if the guy wants to lay some wreaths, but it's just strange timing.

I'm sure Obama's re-elect Hope-n-Change can pony up the dollars for the little miss to meet Justin.

gonna be a classy election.

I guess we should be grateful he didn't take her back to the Oval Office and pull a Clinton.

Sociopath or Narcissist. The Democrats must be insane. I think, at least for New England, its the radon.

And this is why Althouse voted for Obama.

Obama's pimping out Justin Bieber now?

Given his demonstrated knowledge of this great country, I suppose it's possible he doesn't know 14 year olds can't vote.

My son was getting razzed for liking Bieber. The schoolbus vibe wasn't going his way. With BO's backing, maybe Bieber's cred will soar.

It's never too early to start making campaign promises that will eventually be broken. "Sweetheart, you can meet Bieber the day after I close Guantanamo."

So a 14-year-old girl who lost her father 10 years ago wants to meet Justin Bieber. Not too much to ask, if you ask me.

Had he lived, her father would understand what goes on in the mind of his 14-year-old - as did Shakespeare.

I'm no fan of Obama, but I think he's handled this pretty well.

Sure, a lot of democrats are being really ugly about the politicizing of the moment, but I guess he's relatively low key about it (considering how you'd expect him to act, anyway).

This is a good time for the country. Sure, in the context of really hard times, but let's enjoy it.

Sweet, sure. But. Who writes to the President to tell him you like Justin Bieber?

MayBee said...

I hate to say this, but this girl was using her father's death to try to get the President of the United States to introduce her to Justin Bieber.

That's not a cute story.

The empty-headed recipient of a government school education, perhaps. I could be wrong - the family might be rich enough now to afford to get the child indoctrinated at a liberal private school.

Yep, this NYC visit proves it. Just like some wit said the other day.

"All you people who voted for Obama in 2010 to prove you're not racist are going to have to vote for someone else in 2012 to prove you're not an idiot"

This is the ultimate "look at me" for obama...because he met a celeb, just like his wife bragging she knows beyonce...the ultimate in child like shallowness = liberalism

It's entirely possible she was made to write to the president. My son has had to in school. He wrote "yo tuve huevos y jugo maƱana. usted vive en la casa blanca." Granted, he was 6. But, when you're forced to write a letter, you say whatever you can think of.

Fen said...

True. I remember writing this kind of letter when I was that age. No one ever expects the President will actually read them. They were like the letters you wrote Santa Claus.

Wasn't there a "vote none of the above" campaign in a recent election?

Of course, even this visit was mishandled. 1-2 thousand New Yorkers gathered around Trinity and Liberty (the SE corner of the WTC plot) to greet the President and celebrate. He instead sneaked in on the West St. side, not bothering to tell anyone and just letting an adoring crowd fizzle. There were a lot of confused, annoyed people who had been waiting with flags at the ready for over an hour.

If there is one thing that Obama is comfortable with it's the cult of celebrity personality.

I want to know if he follows up on that. That's the kind of thing I'd like to see him doing.

I'm desperately searching for some humanity out there, but all I see is empty promises.
