Since it's now the next day, I can ask:

Didn't the furlough violate your first amendment rights?

( I assume that the answer is no, otherwise you would have stood up for those rights, and blogged about doing so. So I'm curious about the reasoning. )

(Cross-commented from the furlough thread )

Lovely pic!

Very pretty. The little splashes of color look almost lot bits of yarn on a woven scene.

That would have put you in open rebellion against the Thought Police

So they have thought police?

And BTW - did anyone Wisconsonites thank the professor for saving them money yesterday?

Everything in the picture is so green. It's so beautiful.

Everything here is brown. My lilac bloomed and it was pretty... everything around it was brown. Then it froze and the flowers freeze-dried on the bush. Usually it gets the freeze-dry treatment before it blooms so I was really lucky.

My scabiosa is blooming, the catmint is blooming and the first salvia is blooming. A few of the iris didn't get their buds frozen and are starting to bloom.

But its all surrounded by brown scraggly... stuff.

I'm getting massively homesick for "lush" and "green."

Known Unknown said...

Come to Ohio — very verdant with the buckets of rain we've been enjoying.

Synova said...

I grew up in Minnesota.

In Minnesota even the weeds are lush and green.

There are beautiful things in the desert, but it's particularly dry this year. Hopefully we don't get too many fires and our Republican governor doesn't piss off Obama.

Ain't it the truth.

Between the chill and the wet, it looks and feels like Ireland.

Even the pups, except for Sherlock, are all stiff from it.

This is supposed to be May!!!!

Too late, Newt, pack up and go home:

And this headline from Instapundit:

Russ Feingold, Potential Senate Candidate, Rips Democrats For 'Corruption'

Come on, Wisconsin, Russ really, really misses the back-slappers club. And lunching with the hapless John McCain. And generally living the life of an important person who messes with the people behind their backs.

Is the intentional flooding of one community in preference to save another a violation of the 14th amendment?

Our tiny river that flows through town flows into a very small lake that is controlled with a dam. I noticed that it went down about three or four feet in the last day or so, after being quite full for the past couple of weeks. I wonder if it was held back, then released, to try to reduce the Mississippi flooding (it is a tributary...eventually).

this is great... it's a 25-minute short from the art film festival circuit:

Successful Alcoholics

It's also nice that you can go ahead and watch the film without going through an Old Media middleman.

I have enjoyed the last 5 days of Newt's campaign. Actually the 5 days since he has announced.

How long does he stay in?

I predict he is out by the end of the week.

The headline should be: Concerned about increased drone attacks, senior al-Qaeda operative taken into Pakistani custody for his own protection.

I'm away from my normal stomping grounds in Florida, and today I took a trip with my brother from NYC through the Catskills to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. It was a rainy misty day driving through the mountains, but it was all very scenic. They had flowers on Harmon Killebrew's plaque, and a special placard on an easel announcing his passing. It was exciting to see so much of baseball's history in the museum.

Irene said...

Clyde, even my mother, who does not follow baseball and knows little about Killebrew, was so touched by the stories she saw about him today.

OK - so all of a sudden in my "Edit Posts" part of my Dashboard - I have a wholllllllle bunch of "Draft" posts. They are duplicates of posts I made weeks ago...

So there is more weirdness going on with the Blogger "resstore" - anyone else having the same issue? I'm not writing to Nitecruzr. :)

The number one music video on YouTube is On the Floor by Jennifer Lopez. The melody, once it gets going, is a rip off of Lambada by Kaoma,

cal acontece ser minha canção favorita no português.

Lopez changes the lyrics to the melody into something else entirely, something less interesting. Here is Lopez on American Idol, a video without ads. (The official video for the song is interesting too, but it has ads.)

The original by Kaoma is quite old and a lot better IMHO, it can be seen and listened to here.

The lyrics in Portuguese do not match exactly the upbeat tempo. The song tells of unrequited love and abandonment, a certain psychological hardening, a defense it seems in asserting that the one who made the singer cry will himself be crying when he remembers the love he did not care for. And that memory will be with him forever, as it will be for the singer. But the singer will be dancing the lambada when she remembers that love was king for an instant. So then, rather fatalistically, song, laughter, pain and melody of love is evanescent, a moment that lasts in the air.

But I love the little kids in the video getting together and dancing. It makes me happy.

This year, July has 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays. This happens once every 823 years.

This year we're going to experience four unusual dates.

1/1/11, 1/11/11, 11/1/11, 11/11/11 and that's not all...

Take the last two digits of the year in which you were born - now add the age you will be this year,

The results will be 111 for everyone in the whole world.

Good night.

Titus said...

Thanks for sharing those Chip. I liked the original better.

And Juliius I watched that movie and liked, thought the acting was excellent, but the topic depressing.

Patrick said...

Pogo. I lack the clout of the BVM, but I shall remember your wife in my prayers. Hope you and your family are well, although it sounds otherwise.

KCFleming said...

Thx, Patrick. She needs a surgeon's skill and the breath of God.

Prayers here too, Pogo. We are with you.

Pogo, I didn't know that your wife was ill. I truely hope everything works out for you two.

Chip Ahoy said...

Titus, the original original is Spanish (and oddly part Japanese) by a Bolivian group called Los Kjarkas. Here is another very fast cover of the same song by Don Omar, this time in Spanish.

Apparently, Kjarkas sued the pants off Kaoma for nicking the song. How J. Lopez gets off scott free is beyond me.

Peter Hoh said...

Pogo, you and your wife are in my prayers, too.

"I used to hate to hear my dad complain
About the way the world has changed
Now I find that I'm doin' the same
As the years go by
I went back to the praire to the diamond ground
One last look before they tore it down
They put up a mall with a merry go round
D (for entire line)
Like there ain't enough shopping malls in this town*
Someone one turn the volume down
I just want to hear the sound
Of those Sundays after noon

Harmon Killebrew did you ever get my letter?
Ten pages of clear blue sky
Green diamond days gone by
Wonder Why

Those days are going, going, gone. gone

Not if Althouse agreed to join that union. And she did!

Complaining about that AFTER she has tenure is laughable, yet ALL the "best teachers" do that so well.

Not for anyone born in 2000 or later. If there's still anyone alive born before 1900 then not for them either.

Speaking of Catholicism (which I am), I love the report being release today that says that the priest abuses were merely a reflection of the permissiveness of the culture of the 1960s and 1960s. Talk about some creative lawyering.

"Come to Ohio — very verdant with the buckets of rain we've been enjoying."

Ditto here in Buffalo.

My son's JV baseball team has played 9 games of the 17 scheduled since the end of April. Last week was almost a total washout. And many of the games played saw balls hit to the outfield 'plug' when they hit the mushy ground.

The rain this 'spring' has been historic. Its as green as I've ever seen it.

Your initial words bring back a flood of memory to me from 2006. A dark 0400 morning with a lethal episode for my better half. I found it more terrifying than combat. She was in the hands of skilled surgeons and the faith she is devout in every day.

On the 20th day of the de rigueur 21 days in Neuro-ICU, she came home, walking, talking and wholly unimpaired. I credit her faith, her courage, her cheer, and the surgeon and ICU staff. I think they healed me as much as her. Her cheer and courage alone kept me sane.

My strongest hope, prayer if you will, is that you & yours, too, can have the same outcome.
