Who is Althouse? * View only LAW posts * Contribute * Shop AMAZON*
I have to admit, when I read Althouse's quote from the The New Yorker about the "patented Trump palaver," I first said to myself: "oh, so there's actually a name for that haircut?"
Not to be outdone, now the boys are keep'n it real with the Real Life Ken Doll.
Nice! Here in the mountains, I had some daffodils come up several weeks ago when it was warm, then we got a foot of snow. The daffodils did fine, though. I need to plant some crocuses next fall.
"...and don't let one little thing fly by unnoticed." It's a "starry, starry night" for us dreamers....But surely we can be empathetic and put ourselves in the shoes...shoes???OK, that's the script, it says ... "In the shoes of the ever-vigilant, 'Venus Flytraps'!
Oh, bless your little blonde heart, Madame. After all the cold, ugliness, and silliness of the past few weeks, leave it to Althouse to remind us of what's good and valuable in life.EDH said...Not to be outdone, now the boys are keep'n it real with the Real Life Ken Doll.Every feminist wants one.PS Olbrich Gardens back in bloom?Or something of Meade's?
Here comes the thunder.
The trees on Speer Blvd near downtown are all in bloom. They look like cherry trees but they're probably crab apple or something. They're all pink and purdy.
So pretty, the pics feel warm.
"Here comes the thunder."So? Dogs "sense" the coming thunder by nature.I'm waiting for that special dog who "sniffs lightning"...and from his own ass!
Nice pix. Crocuses are very photogenic, just wish they lasted a bit longer.
Crocus...that's what the al Qaeda wants to do.
My Feminist WeekendFriday: Mary's Way of the Cross with friends. (It's the Stations of the Cross imagined from Mary's point of view.)Saturday: Helped host a baby shower.Sunday (today): Continued a tradition started last year by attending a local temple's second annual women's seder with friends.(Google Chrome doesn't know the word "seder." That's odd.)
My son finished the Crucible yesterday and is now a United States Marine. Family Day is Thursday and graduation is Friday. OOH-RAH!Toy
Congrats to your son! Very cool. But why do they have to read Arthur Miller to become a Marine?
There's no missing that fly, is there? It leaps off the screen.Right now, I'm happy to see the insects. Maybe it's just 'cause the mosquitoes have yet to appear.
The red buds of pink and red roses are abundantly shooting up in the yard thanks to Bloom Booster, which is viagra for flowering plants. But I must now beware of the Georgia pines bearing pollen bunches in excessive amounts this year, and getting ready to wipe out contact lens wearing for a week or two.
My son finished the Crucible yesterday and is now a United States Marine. Family Day is Thursday and graduation is Friday. OOH-RAH!Toy Congrats to your son. That's one of the most difficult achievements in our society.
"Oh 'light on me! 'light on me!"Said the stamen stiff,"Then fly about and place your snoutIn a willing quiff.Nine months or so there will appearA creature strange a creature dearThat looks, re Joyce, at God all dayIn a perambulating way.Free at last! Free at last! From this confining stationary."
A rare clumber just farted...totally silent but deadly.Went to Madison's inside farmers market on Saturday. Purchased wheat grass.Sunday went to a Wisconsin Supper Club. I fucking love supper clubs. I want to be a Supper Club Historian.
Wisconsin is so not fabulous and I am enjoying experiencing being not fab.
Dealing with a bike-chasing dog.The never-fail method, though it takes a little patience.
At the Crocs Cafe.
A creature mixed a creature dear...would be better.
I am heading back to Punjab in two weeks. The time in Wisconsin has been swell. But marriage calls.Do you know that the slums in India are where most of their Muzzies live? You can also rent a fab apartment for 300.00 a month in Mumbai. It would cost about 10,000 a month in New York. You all should think about retiring to India. The dollar goes a long way.Lastly I sleep on the floor because I want to be close to the clumbers. I love having our bodies touch while we sleep-but not in a sexual way.And lastly lastly my dad is going insane-fun.
Pretty pictures. Our palo verde are starting to bloom. As the pink cherry blossoms are to DC so are the yellow palo verde blossoms to Phoenix and the surrounding desert.
AG's Petition for Writ on Act 10 is here: http://www.doj.state.wi.us/news/files/Petition_for_Supervisory_Writ-9048895_v1.pdf.Seems compelling; argues that the Judge can't preclude enactment of a law (which seems obvious), argues that the County DA can't even sue to have an Act declared unconstitutional (on statutory grounds), and argues that even if the Legislature violated the Open Meetings Law, that won't void the Act.To me, this seems very much like judicial over-reaching. I think the left needs to very carefully consider whether they really want any Judge (say, perhaps a Waukesha county judge, on a case filed by a Waukesha county DA) to be able to prevent a law that is not popular in Waukesha from taking effect. Isn't that what elections are for?
*sigh*... it never ends....Milwaukee County DA, state board schedule news conference on 'significant investigation'The state Government Accountability Board and Milwaukee County district attorney's office has scheduled a news conference Monday afternoon to discuss the results of a "significant investigation."No details were given about the investigation. The news conference is scheduled at 2 p.m. Monday at the Government Accountability Board office in Madison.
Do you guys have sex or at this time in your life and at your age is it more about companionship?
James,This guy update to say that investigation is NOT about last week's election.http://randallmelchert.com/
Lovely flowers, Professor.Congratualtions Toy. Your son has chosen a noble and difficult path. I was at an event today where they played the Star Spangled Banner (the music... I sang the words to myself -- ) and I got to "... the land of the free and the home of the brave ... " and thought again what a wonderful and unique place this America of ours is.We actually enshrined being "free" in our national anthem.I can think of no good reason why we should or would give that up to make others feel "better" about their own lot.I pray your son is safe and brave and does good(n). You have reason to be proud.
"Saturday: Helped host a baby shower."I love clean babies.
"My son finished the Crucible yesterday. . . "Parris Island? I can see Parris Island from my house!
"Oh 'light on me! 'light on me!" These beauties glow as if lit from within and without.
Thanks, fellas, I appreciate the good wishes on his behalf. Yes, Parris Island, where would-be Marines read Arthur Miller plays to qualify for the Eagle, Globe and Anchor. I think there is probably a commentor around here who can describe the Crucible from personal experience, but from what I've been told, it's pretty horrendous.ToyToy
What the hell is the crucible?USN 65-67USMC 73-81
It's a play by Arthur Miller. All the new Marines have to read it.

This description of the Crucible indicates it to be ...the final test in recruit training, and represents the culmination of all of the skills and knowledge a Marine should possess. Designed in 1996 to emphasize the importance of teamwork in overcoming adversity...
Meade's greasy hog penetrating Althouse's wet wanting cooch. Picture it please.I am also about oral. Is any oral going on in this teabagging family?
Spring has sprung; those flowers would last less than 1 nite where I live, the deer would find them and eat them toot-sweet...deer lollipops.
@traditionalguy"But I must now beware of the Georgia pines bearing pollen bunches in excessive amounts this year, and getting ready to wipe out contact lens wearing for a week or two."Oh I can relate to this, brother, as my allergies are on high alert for the same reason beginning of June - thats when my pines let loose their blizzard of yellow pollen, everywhere. It is so thick that it collects on the cars, the driveway...and yes, its murder on the eyes.
I can hardly wait for The Althouse Woman to tear Maureen Dowd a new one today on MD's put down of Bob Dylan performing in China.
Amidst beautiful crocuses, Titus leaves his usual steaming pile. The appeal remains obscure.
And Titus the dog tramples Prof. Althouse's crocuses, licks itself, takes a dump and lumbers away, satisfied.
On my monitor the crocus look like a beautiful oil painting. What a wonderful way to start the day! Thanks Ann. It's always worth stopping by.wv: parslym. New parsley-based weight-loss product.
Yesterday, my bee hive hived off a new swarm of bees. I don't have the equipment or interest to manage another hive, so I just let them go. It is impressive to hear and see a tornado-cloud of thousands of bees in the air. One of the reasons bees swarm is because of over population brought about by an abundance of food. Bees main source of protein is pollen and we do have an over abundance of pollen right now. Everything is yellow with it. After the swarm event, they collected together in a ball on a nearby bush. I could have dumped that ball of bees into a box and started a new hive. Instead, I just let them go and find their own home. I have no idea where they went. Considering the shortage of wild honeybees, maybe this will help with the situation.
ken - Do you wear an impenetrable covering when you knock a ball of bees into a box? Or must you accept a certain number of bites as a beekeeper? Serious question since I know nothing about how it's done.
MD's put down of Bob Dylan performing in China.More like the lack of a performance - given that the Chinese government told Dylan to leave his iconic songs at home.Have to agree with Mo on this one.
Almost--You need to look at Dylan's song list that he had in China. MoDo doesn't know what she's talking about.
Stings not bites!
Almost --Go here:http://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2011/04/dylan-dowd-and-china-did-bob-really-sell-out/237055/
Good point, AllenS. Christianity and family are far more subversive to the State than a 1960s era protest song.
AllenS - Thanks for the Atlantic Link. Very supportive of Dylan's China play list.Still, who would attend a Dylan concert that left out..."Iconic songs of revolution like “The Times They Are a-Changin,’ ” and “Blowin’ in the Wind” wouldn’t have been an appropriate soundtrack for the 2,000 Chinese apparatchiks in the audience taking a relaxing break from repression." -- Dowd Personally, I wouldn't go to a Dylan concert if he was singing Please, Mr OBama, Let Me Kiss Your Commie Ass"...
Almost --I went to a Dylan concert in Bushkill, PA in 2003. He didn't play those songs there either.
Why was AllenS from Wisconsin attending a Dylan concert in PA you ask? Well, you know what they say, love is blind. It also makes you do stupid shit.
Love is all there isIt makes the world go 'round.Love and only loveIt can't be denied. No matter what you think about ityou just won't be able to do without it.Take a tip from one who's tried.
Dylan said nothing about Weiwei’s detention, didn’t offer a reprise of “Hurricane,” his song about “the man the authorities came to blame for something that he never done - Mo DowdGoogle could've told Mo that Bob (whose favorite politician was Barry Goldwater) hasn't performed that misinformed song - anywhere - in over ten years... possibly because "the man the authorities came to blame" got a new trial that proved he really had done the thing "he never done."
Allen - You, at a "Dylan" concert? You didn't strike as the type, although it may be unfair of me to typecast anyone.Maybe it's because I grew up in New York - where Dylan came to sing to "rebellious" Jewish coeds - but found his real audience in the Gentile suburbs of Catholic school. I liked his business savvy, although his music and persona were more typical of a NYC park bench. Or the waterless fountain in Washington Square.[Added] Opps - I see now that you've answered my question. And it makes perfect sense.
Ripic, to do what I said, I would wear my bee-suit. I do occasionally get stung, but sometimes I don't notice it until the next day when I have a sore finger or welt. I'm not very sensitive to bee stings. Bee venom is supposed to be good for arthritis, of which I have a touch.
