The "open meetings" nonsense.

If you care to read details, go here. It's nothing, and I won't be distracted by it.

CORRECTION: In the post title, "records" corrected to: "meetings."

Now back to the chaotic mob.....

On its face, this rule would seem not to require even a 2-hour notice, just posting on the bulletin board, which is how the Clerk interprets it. This is consistent with the emphasis on speed implicit in several parts of Rule 93.

"Live by one's own self-imposed exile from day-to-day activities at the State Capitol... die by one's own self-imposed exile from day-to-day activities at the State Capitol."

Heh.

I'm going to go out an a limb here and predict more accusations of illegality when the assembly passes the bill.

It's funny that the Democrats are now being such sticklers when it comes to legislative rules.

Ya but watch these idiots win it in the Courts.

Mark Miller and his 13 mob ginners were calling this Pearl Harbor! but he left his wife behind last night to try and appeal to the protestors to leave the Capitol building last night.

They aren't going to be held responsible for the mob by the Courts.

Thanks for the links!

Chennaul said...

Here she is making some appeal to the mob and bringing up Japanese Internment camps-whatever:

Madison - Jo Oyama-Miller, wife of state Senate Minority Leader Mark Miller (D-Monona), pleaded for several hundred demonstrators to leave the ante-chamber of the state Assembly Wednesday night.

"If we can evacuate we can win this battle," she said. "We wont if we break the law."

Oyama-Miller, who is of Japanese descent, said her parents went peacefully to internment camps during World War II.

"They took the high road," she told the protesters as she urged them to do the same.

Bruce Colburn, a vice president with the Service Employees International Union, asked people to also take the high road.

"I think people are going to make their point, stand their ground," he said. "We'll be respectful. People have fought hard but always with non-violence."

[Journal Sentinel]

******

So the damn circle is complete you have one of the Badger 14 calling this-

Pearl Harbor!

and you have Mark Miller's (-the Senate Minority Leader) wife invoking the Japanese Internment camps.

Gawd.

It was ok, though - The Mayor of Madison was in there with the protesters. He'll protect her.

Erpenbach gave me my side-splitting laugh of the day as he whined on the radio this morning about driving 80 hours per hour in an effort to get to the Capitol before the bill was voted on . . .

uh . . . it's a 30-second walk from your Office, dork.

Also, I'm glad you admitted on open radio that you violated the law. I can't think of any place between Illinois and Wisconsin where the speed limit is 80.

Chennaul said...

But again no one is going to hold them responsible and they might win it in the Courts.

Common sense isn't going to apply.

Cripes the mayor of Madison from 1973?

Unfortunately, the Republican senators left themselves wide open to this spin by the Democrats and the media. They needed to make sure they not only observed the letter of the law but also controlled the message, and they failed to do that.

So Ann is NOT going to be distracted by the law, although she teaches law?

Now I know what is wrong with Wisconsin.

Chennaul said...

wordsmith 2

I'm inclined to agree with you-but given the Liberal media I doubt they really could control the message.

I was talking to an old Republican campaigner in Cali-his opinion was to just rip it off like a band aid.

The mob would frenzy for awhile and they would get more media attention in the short term but that would last no longer than three days.

We'll see. He's almost always right-it's really annoying! ;-)

"her parents went peacefully to internment camps during World War II."

Instituted by Democratic leaders.

Curious. She's still going peacefully to the internment camps being put on by such leaders.

She's being herded, but doesn't even realize it.

Good lord, you people are insufferably stupid. It’s already been firmly established that there was no violation. But as with everything else, since law and process does not lead to the conclusion you want, you just ignore it.

Soon you loons will be claiming the Scott Walker flew remote-controlled airliners into the open records laws.

I submit it is typical leftist disinformation.

Rachael Maddow did it to us in Michigan the night before last-to you last night-

rise up against the (false) injustice!

From Gateway Pundit:

Madison.com reported:

Hundreds of students at multiple Madison middle and high schools were reportedly walking out of class Thursday to participate in protests at the State Capitol.

As many as 800 to 1,000 West High School students were gathering for a march to the Capitol around 10 a.m., senior Jacob Fiksel said.

Fiksel said “tensions are really high.”

“People are really upset that the Republican senators passed this bill illegally — they did not give 24 hours notice,” Fiksel said. “We feel like it’s a slap in the face.”

One report says 3/4′s of the school walked out.

Nice work, leftist teachers.
Suspend them now.

Another report— Mayor of Madison Dave Cieslewicz leading wildcat strike of public workers, marching with them to Capitol right now.

Do Senate rules apply to joint committees? WisFOIC's Bill Lueders issued a release this morning that says "Senate Chief Clerk, Robert Marchant, has advanced the argument that the notice was sufficient under Senate Rule 93, which holds that the Senate can convene in special session without giving advanced notice. Others have pointed out that this rule pertains to the Senate, whereas last night's meeting was a Joint Committee of Conference, a.k.a. Joint Conference Committee. They say Rule 93 would not apply in such a case."

MadisonMan said...

It’s already been firmly established that there was no violation.

I don't think it's firmly established. You can certainly interpret the law and rules to do what the Senate did -- I'm sure they discussed this beforehand. Whether or not a DA and judge will agree is a different question.

The *logic* is circular-but then that might be too complimentary.

As long as we're talking about the Open Meetings law, doesn't the meetings the Democrats were having in order to discuss legislation (although in another state) fall under the OM law, and if so, are they in violation of it due to their lack of keeping minutes and such? And if so, could this be used in impeachment and recall procedures against these Fleebagger Dems?

MadisonMan said...

I've only heard of East and West high students going. You can walk to the Capitol from those two schools. VHMS also has some students walking out. That's a bit of a hike.

The West kids didn't look very tense as I drove past them on my way home.

I finally figured out the attraction the Left has to the Capitol building...the dome resembles the nipple of the Public Teat they have been suckling on their entire working lives. Mewling and bawling as it is slowly removed from their mouths, the cameras roll.

We'll save this footage and show it to them when they grow up, embarrassing them in front of their friends, like adults so often do. But it will be good for them.

Meygn Kelly is interviewing Jesse Jackson on Fox now. Jackson is saying that the Democrats were denied a vote last night (although the Dems were in Illinois, not Madison) and that the protests are going to "escalate".

Jackson says that Walker is going to close many schools in Wisconsin. What a liar and the Wisconsin protesters back this slug?

Jackson says "the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer." Does that include the teachers in Wisconsin?

Someone needs to ask Jackson how much he is worth.

Well, well, well..........it seems that Jesse Jackson is just about as wealthy as Michael Moore-on (who sends his kids to a private [non-union] school and refuses to hire union labor when making his movies).

Both are worth an estimated $10 million. Can we start redistributing their wealth?

Dude! You need to get away from the internet and dial it back a little. This isn't you. You are better than this.

The hardest thing in life is to lose especially if you really believe in something as much as you believe in letting the unions rape the taxpayers. But there will be another election soon and if as you say all of Wisconsin wants loads of new taxes to pay the gold plated benefits of people working nine months a year it will be no problem to turn out of office these rascally republicans.

Take a lesson from those poor Rutgers kids who got jobbed by the refs in the Big East Tournament. Tomorrow is another day. There will be another election. This is not the end of the world. You need to step back and get a little perspective.

Check out American Idol tonight. Or Jersey Shore. Polish you BMW's. Play you’re your kids. Have a snort and listen to a spring training game. Life is too short buddy.

I am worried for you.

Your pal,

Re" Foust whereas last night's meeting was a Joint Committee of Conference

The entire Senate was convened for the vote. 19 (a quorum) showed up and voted. I don't see how that's a Joint Committee. Sounds EXACTLY like a special session. I do see however that Rob Marchant calls it a conference committee, so maybe we'd need to see what the text of the actual posted notice said?

Calypso, the controversy is about a 4 p.m. committee meeting.

I know what you mean Martin. Sometimes people can't accept the fact that they lost. I still listen to Red Sox fans who tell me that their team was always better and that Bucky Dent cheated and what not.

But you see there is always another game. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. You have to know how to lose with dignity and sow the seeds of a future victory.

It is pretty amusing that the college kids at Rutgers can handle it better when they got robbed than supposed adults who lost the last election.

I mean I know I tease you guys about Wisconsin and all but I used to think it sounded like a pretty nice place.

After the last few weeks...not so much.

Well, it has been going on long enough. Again, this is SOOOO played. Why don't you encourage your 'others' to give it up, go on home, and learn to accept that you're no better than your non-union neighbors, and no, you don't have a RIGHT to collectively bargain.

BTW, when Althosue was talking (a while back) about the "house conservatives," was it the libs in the proverbial house or the cons outside the house who were the so-called "master" in that relationship?

One things is for sure, Althouse has been shoveling out the steak tartare, where her community (and so-called house) is the main ingredient.

Some commentators have suggested that the conference committee was a joint conference committee, involving Assembly members as well Senators. Yet the Assembly has the same language in its own Rule 93 (requiring only posting on the bulletin board), so I don't see how that alone would change things.

I'd have to say that the legislature could do a better job of informing people of exactly what was done and under what legal authority.
