At least the presence of the shit pile will help the protestors blend in with background smell.

Horse shit, and that's what that pile is (for you city types) is excellent, though a bit smelly, as a sidewalk anti-icing agent :)

TML said...

Some great wit here. I almost LOL'd a few times. OK I COL'd (chuckled out loud) at the Michael Moore defecatory output comment from Kent. Overall, I'm really, really kinda sad that these people are acting this way and that there's such a huge gap between what people (Dems/Libs) say they want in behavior and how they themselves act. It's just head-shakingly amazing. Indeed, I wonder if these images will be fron and center as "Decision 2012" gears up or if we'll be treated to more speculative blather about the Tea Party. -sigh-

You recognize, don't you Chris, that the entire thing has been silly - every last protester.

You have no good argument on your side - nothing that you could calmly say to persuade - so you've gone with the fever of the crowd.

It is wrong in a democracy to require people to join a union, and to require them to pay to that union.

It is wrong for unions to be formed against taxpayers and their representatives.

It is wrong for unions to donate to the very politicians that will be negotiating with them.

And what do you say to these?

Nuttin! You got nuttin!

You know what stinks to high heaven?

Sneaking around and pushing through a law without notice, so that even the Capitol police are taken by surprise:

"Senate Republicans' intent to hold a vote on a revised version of Walker's budget repair bill caught not only legislators but law enforcement by surprise. Tim Donovan, spokesman for the Department of Administration, which includes the Capitol Police, said he was only given an hour or so notice of the 6 p.m. meeting. He quickly called for reinforcements but said they were not enough to handle the 5,000 to 8,000 demonstrators, some of whom came in through the windows and swarmed through a pair of unlocked doors at the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard entrance."

Oh, and despite Prof. Althouse's off the cuff remarks (she appears to be in over her head here-- which is happening way too much lately), it looks like it was illegal.

What was the "emergency" this time?

It's been my experience that most legislation gets passed without informing the relevant police authorities. I don't think the police were surprised by the legislation but rather by the anti-democratic mob that tried to stop the legislators.

All of this lovely banter aside. I want to know what steps the legislature is prepared to take to protect the students and teachers who did not go along with the protests. There is no way in hell my kid would ever go back to one of these "schools."

Having witnessed the total lack of professionalism, or even simple reasoning skills, of the union members involved in this protest there is no way you can convince me that there will not be reprisals. That is what unions do when they lose.

Also, this can't be over until every teacher that walked off the job is terminated and the doctors who gave out excuses like candy lose their licenses. You can protest all you want but you can't do it on the public dime or by abandoning your charges. You can't rabble rouse in the classroom and agitate for the kids to take your side as I am certain was done.

Precedents are being set. But more importantly people can't get away with committing offenses up to and including fraud simply because they have gamed the system. None of these people are irreplaceable and they certainly shouldn't be above the law.

Paddy O said...

Chris, I know you likely have been raised to think it's all about you. But it's not.

See, conservative ideas start with the fact that you cannot demand from the rest of us what most suits your particular interests. You can't demand, for instance, that Althouse shape her blog to fit what you wanted out of her blog.

And you cannot expect people to cater to your whims and fancies and biases. If you came to learn about conservative ideas, I suggest that National Review Online is probably a better source for that.

Hereabouts, it's more like a cafe where people just talk about what they want and post what they want.

But I don't think you care about learning about conservative ideas. I think you like to make yourself feel all adult and mature by scolding people, handing out demerits, and such.

But, no one likes a school marm.

Especially one that brings their own definition on what is expected, then demands everyone live up to such rules.

And how fitting, seeing as how just before Beck's recent and most damaging debacle, Bill Maher presciently described the guy as being close to playing with his poop.

These cons here, well, they're still just at the stage where they're fascinated by the poop that others brought on display. But not too far off from where Beck metaphorically went, now. The backslapping, Islamist-style trimphalism they've consistently displayed tells you just how close to the edge they've gotten.

If it were, oh I dunno, say a steaming pile of manure identifying it as Barack Obama, it would make the front page of every "paper of record" in the known world, with readership numbering in the millions, fingerpointing it as "typical behaviour" of that political group, followed by wailing calls for civility and censure.

That, my friends (pace John McCain) is the difference between the Wisconsin protest coverage, to date, and that accorded to the Tea Party movement.

You would think that a physician as passionate(?) as Pogo would have a better opinion of proper dental hygiene, but apparently he assumes that would be a sore spot for a Brit like his friend Vicky.

Chris, the defensive, Glenn Beckish responses are to be expected. They blame their stereotyping and fascination with negativity on the opposition, you see.

Hey look everyone, the shit on the cart is back here to post.

Oh you mean the ones that show Wisconsinite public employee union member gearing up for their next wave of jihad, uh, I mean protests? Yeah, been watching them here all day.

No thanks. If I wanted to find a Tory apologist for royalist politics, I'd just read Buckley. ;-)

Ahhh... confusing free speech with religious compulsion. Methy Baby Head shows his true colors and perhaps ponders whether he will resort to beheading anyone who says anything bad about conservatives.

What's weird about Ritmo is how very occasionally he will be normal for 2 or 3 posts.

My conclusion:
1) It's a set-up for the inevitable Lucy-pulling-the-football-away.

2) Someone else is posting on his handle.

3) Very occasionally, he is actually normal.

@vbspurs: Mwah!

I think there are still many commenters around from years past. Even Ron shows up from time to time.

I saw you midnight tweeting some Carnival in Rio. Did it get rained out?

Are you posing as a psychiatrist, Pogo? You know, for someone who gives his IRL e-mail address away in the Blogger profile, you sure like to make a point of advertising your unhealthy obsessions with me.

Do you just make shit up as you go along or do you have to ask the guy who was pulling your cart for permission to come here? I'm sure there is a Titus joke in there somewhere where you pay him a $100 and ask him to eat more cheese for consistency so you can look like the picture in your cart.

I knew it! I knew it! I knew we'd be seeing vbspurs again soon.

Is there an alternative universe in which this sentence would make sense?

Anyway, sorry for raining on the poop parade. You guys are way too crazy for me today and more interesting plans beckon. But it was fun while it lasted. Toodles! ;-0 (Or, in honor of vbspurs' return, should I say "Cheerio") ;-0

I thought Trooper York's blog did a good job at partially soothing the savage beast within Ritmo. I mean look how he tamed HDHouse.

Singletons or pairs of Althouse commenters with special enmity or anger issues should be compelled to go there for rehab.

vbspurs said...

I think there are still many commenters around from years past. Even Ron shows up from time to time.

Ron I've always seen here, whenever I lurked in times past. It was the sight of our Simon that startled me, and that of knockout Darcy.

And I'm very glad.

I saw you midnight tweeting some Carnival in Rio. Did it get rained out?

It POURED, and the "arquibancadas" got direct lightning strikes -- but Thor the god of Lightning is no match for the ebullience of the Carioca crowd at carnival.

BTW, my fave samba school, Beija-Flor, won it again this year. Yay. :)

Ritmo Re-Animated said...

Lol. Blog rehab.

Trooper's a good guy. He also has a fertile mind. The combination is irresistible to those addicted to shooting down (up?) bad comments as if they were internet crack.

@vbspurs I think Ron qualifies as a "legacy commenter".

I wonder who would get the prize for longest continuous recognizable commentary on the Althouse blog?

Poor boy. You don't even realize how badly you are losing. And you are losing really, really badly. Silly Klucker.

Hey Paddy!! It's REALLY great to see you!

I saw DrillSgt on another thread, plus Lem, and Freeman, and well, it really is like coming home. :)

I'm off for dinner, and to take a break from the mini-threadjack due to my return.

This is really a great thread. Kent's Michael Moore crack had me in stitches.

Absolutely; one of Troop's admirable qualities. I myself have the bad Irish habit of pissing people off.

A shirtless Meade could till it into the grounds surrounding stately Meadehouse Manor. Althouse could video him and post it, causing her female audience to swoon.

Bullshit. You came here angry that Althouse has caught the Union Brat antics on video. And you actually thought an appeal to conformity ("you, a law professor") would get her to lighten her coverage.

You're transparent. And stupid. Go fuck yourself, Libtard.

I will mention that it is a pity that this blog has abandoned American Idol which the reason I first began to comment here.

Too much politics can turn you into a pile of shit....or something.

You know how I found this blog? Boobs and not the leftards here either. It was Ann's anger at the boob girl posing with Clinton. Her ire was fascinating to watch because it, from my point of view at that time, came out of nowhere. Then once I landed at this blog, I thought I'd hang out and say hello. Still saying hello.

Palladian said...

I came to this blog via Reynolds during one of the first vortices, the Great Open Sores / Pajamas Media War of 2005.

To be fair, I think a few people who still comment today preceded me, such as chuck b, XWL, and of course the oldest commenter ever, vbspurs.

But of course I'm still the best!

"On Blogger Since July 2001"

Wow, I was on Blogger when it was almost unique among blogging platforms and still owned by its founding company, Pyra.

The sad part is that almost NOTHING about it has changed since then. Once Google acquires something it tends to squeeze it under its fat ass and forget about it. It's almost laughable how antiquated and unmaintained Blogger is today and yet it's still operational, like someone using a Nash Rambler as a daily commuter car.

chickelit said...

I still have electronic copies of a brief email exchange I had with Althouse in the fall of 2004 (I'm sure she has no recollection). Like you, I found Althouse through InstaPundit. I must have read her then but I didn't start commenting until 2006 or so. And then not regularly until a couple years later.

Paddy O said...

"Like you, I found Althouse through InstaPundit."

Same with me. Also in Fall 2004, I think. I was really into that election and found all sorts of places to read more and more. I think I took a break from blog reading after the election, but I have no memory of how long.

I'm also not at all sure when I started commenting regularly. I tried to look in old posts, but it seems like there aren't any comments from early 2005 or all of 2004 left posted. Not sure what happened to them all. Did Althouse have a comment blackout for a while?
