A drive in the country.

We took the TT for a spin Sunday afternoon...

Wasn't it glorious today? To feel the warm spring sun through the car window after a long cold winter. Aaahhhh....bliss.

Nice. Is it the Coupe, or the ragtop?

Almost Ali said...

Slow down! You're scaring the squirrels!

I'm a Shaaaaark said...

Ah. Looks like the coupe.

More than a squir-rel... More than a squir-rel to me...

Ron said...

Ah, Silvio, we've missed thee...

Is he a member of the TT Party?

Ann Althouse said...

I just dropped in to see what condition my squirrel was in...

Meade said...

Yes, Ron, Silvio has become a TT bbadger.

I drove Hwy 19 from Sun Prairie to River Road outside Waunakee to Cty M today.

Man, there are a lot of new houses on that route -- hadn't been that way for 10 or so years.

Almost Ali said...

Almost affixed to the road, he was.

First Meade fails to yield the right of way (to the cow people), and now this.

You two go too far, like teenagers racing down Wisconsin's quiet back-roads, blastin' corny music and charging an innocent, lone squirrel - who probably some kid's beloved pet, raised from baby squirrel-hood after being cornered by the house cat - hand-fed fresh cow-milk and Special-K...

Know why chicken coops always have two doors?

Because if it had four doors then it'd be a chicken sedan. FACT!

Hilarious. :)

Glad to see you're getting out and away from the hurley-burley around the capitol!

Let me guess, Meade's hand was on Ann's knee when the Bee Gees were playing...

As well it should be, you guys are the Nick and Nora Charles of blogging.

PS Forget who did "California Sun", but nobody would blame you if you just kept on driving. It's probably a 2 day run and it's Spring Break.

You know whaqt's great about cars?

They never go on strike.

(Maybe the Chevy Volt will.
You never know.)

@ChipAhoy

Booooooooooo!!!!!!!

@Meade/Ann

Very neat - you guys nearly wiped out a squirrel (known as 'tree rats' where I live, and to my dog) early in the video.

The Cat Stevens 'Morning Has Broken' fragment brought back memories.

Can't wait to get my Mustang convertible out of winter storage and take my first drive of 2011 in the country.

How do you guys like that little Audi???

I see Meade and Ann are still in that newlywed "dating" stage..not that that's a bad thing...Nick and Nora indeed..

Almost Ali said...

So, while you were out chasing squirrels, I was at the supermarket checking out the vegetables.

When all of a sudden a stunning girl came rushing around the corner, dressed in next nothing - and so beautiful I nearly collapsed from a fatal heart attack - and so sexy no Don Juan could come up with something to say.

Disorientated, I headed in the opposite direction, until I realized the stunning girl was right behind me. Because every eye in the store was right behind me, following the shooting star who landed for a quart of milk or a dozen eggs - and to remind us mere shoppers we're only mortal.

And before we knew it, she was gone, back to the heavens, back to the stars.

Moral: There is no moral, only stardust.

My uncle has a country place
that no one knows about
He says it used to be a farm
before the Motor Law

And on Sundays I elude the Eyes
and hop the Turbine Freight
To far outside the Wire
where my white-haired uncle waits

Fen said...

oh wait, I guess Meade is not allowed to admire the country if he's never milked a cow. Or somesuch nonsense. I dunno, where's MutaLibtard to clear this one up for us...

One of my favorite Rush songs ( a great driving song, watch your speed!), of which there are many.

Wind in my hair
Shifting and drifting
Mechanical music
Adrenaline surge-

'Silver Barchetta'

If you see any dead deer along side the road, maybe you could let the commenters know where it is. Somebody might be mighty hungry.

For those that are curious about the lyrics Fen shared and how they pertain to Meade and Ann's foray into the country in their Audi 'flivver':

Ann, want a GREAT daytime "road music" sound--especially on a rainy day in the back country? Try Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries."

("Radar Love" & Jonny Cash's "Six Days on the Road" are my all time long-dist night driving ones.)

wv: imbooni---"boonies" indeed..LOL

Almost Ali said...

Fast Car.

Really Fast car.

Toad Trend said...

@virgil

Yeah 'Radar Love' has got to be #1 for sure - lets include 'Magic Carpet Ride' and 'L.A. Woman' while we're at it ;)

@Almost Ali

Dick Dale, underrated 'surf' player...awesome.

So let’s recap, first Meadehouse participates in the Strike Breaking/Union-Busting a la the Pinkerton Corporation and then they take their ill-gotten gains, convert it into filthy petro-chemicals and proceed to drive around polluting Mother Gaia and Contributing to Global Warmening. How you two can hold your heads up in Polite Society escapes me…

And don’t EVEN get me started on Meade’s inappropriate, ill-conceived, damaging Chickenhawk attack upon the helpless T-shirt atop that Dead Oppressive White Man’s Statute, this weekend…why Meade did not simply call a Union Certified Statue-Cleaning Technician who would have come with a cherry picker/lift platform and Moon-Suit to remove the offending garment is beyond me! And that assumes that the Historical Restoration Committee would have even “Ok’d” the attempt; as the T-shirt was biodegradable AND the product of legitimate and historically relevant piece of Social Rebellion. IN FACT, most likely the decision would have been made not to REMOVE the T-shirt but to PRESERVE it, possibly in situ but most certainly in the UW-Madison History Centre, with a replacement shirt left to commemorate the historical event, along with a plaque describing the Social Injustice that led up to the placing of the T-shirt, as an act of Legitimate Opposition to Oppression and an Expression of TRUE DEMOCRACY in the face of Fascism!

I simply wash my hands of you two Crypto-Fascists and can only hope that when the Revolution Comes that appropriate Revolutionary Justice is meted out to you two. You especially Althouse, as a womyn, you have an especial burden of guilt, betraying the Sisterhood for the Fascistic, Phalli-centric, Autocracy that Oppresses, Womyn, Gays, Lesbians, Bi-sexuals, the Transgendered, the Poor, People of Colour, and the Working Families of Wisconsin. For Shame, FOR SHAME!

That's what happens when you over rev an engine.

In the second shot near the end you can clearly see the shift light on the dash go yellow and then the engine lets go.

Somebody goofed.

Sounded good up until then. She gave her all.

I was going to interview people in the tratorcade about the carbon emissions of those things. They had an ancient one that they left running because, according to the farmer/"farmer", it might not start up again if it was stopped.

Meade has milked a cow. He's even lived on a farm. For a couple years. Both sets of his grandparents had farms. His father was a seed hybridist. Meade has even worked as a fruit picker.

Humperdink said...

@Don't Tread A rev limiter problem if there ever was one.

Did you notice Bubba sauntering off the rear bumper when the engine craters?

"@Don't Tread A rev limiter problem if there ever was one.

Yeah I've got an older 'Stang convert but it doesn't have a rev limiter - newer models like that Cobra should. I'm betting the Einsteins that did the 'upgrade' and performed the dyno test disabled it.

Yes, I saw the bigass sitting on the trunk at the beginning of the test, probably to add some ballast to the rear wheels/limit any slippage losses on the dyno.

Keep these guys away from your car!!!

Humperdink said...

@ Don't Tread I have a 66 vette I restored from 2002-09. April is when it comes out of the garage for the summer (northwestern Pa).

They are the Salt of the Earth Althouse! How DARE YOU QUESTION THEM!? They are FORCED to labour, for large agri-business concerns, converting their surplus value into filthy lucre for the likes of Archer Daniels Midlands, and then forced, by this mega-technic, Monopoly Finance Capitalist System into the use of Gaia destroying petro-chemicals and fertilizers. Given the choice I’m sure they’d be raising Organic Arugula and Free Range Chickens…

Instead, they were diverted from their Socially Useful Task and instead forced to defend the Gains Made in the Last 150 Years for Working Families, from the rapacious maw of Fascistic Conservatives!

What, T-Shirts?

Still, okay in my book.

I'm a Shaaaaark said...

Here we go. Now gee, I wonder why they would be doing this:

Wis. governor greeted at Washburn fundraiser by thousands of protesters

People were definitely saying their piece, greeting each vehicle that arrived for the dinner with shouts of “Shame!” while waving protest signs and shaking their fists. One person videotaped the license plates of at least some of the vehicles that entered.

Just saw this…so Meade is a part of the Nativist Conspiracy that is deny People of Colour the opportunity to thrive in Amerikkka, by displacing them from Fruit Picking?! How typical, so what you are saying is that Meade comes by his reactionary theoria and praxis, from an early age? So much is explained by this seemingly “innocent” remark….Still the Cat Stevens, Yusef Islam song was nice.

I'm a Shaaaaark said...

Doing the jobs Americans don't want to do. Good man.

AllenS, two friends of mine were coming home fishing and saw a dead deer in road. Good citizens, they place deer on top of station wagon and took it to CM's home and started to carve it up after hanging from kid's swing set. Neighbor called 911 and said two men were flaying someone in the backyard. CM's wife said she never had seen so many flashing lights. Police, fire, rescue and game warden. The game warden told the men they were suppose to call game commision to pick deer up. He took deer away after giving them tongue lashing.

Ali, fruit of loom tshirt. forsure. Made in third world by nonunion workers.

Trust me, if you are; you are a Radish, a Banana, an Oreo, a Coconut…you know WHITE ON THE INSIDE! VELOUR, Sweet Mother of Heaven, if we didn’t have a reason to oppose you; we have one now, that’s all I can say…….Oi Vey, Velour……and I like the Bangles “Hazy Shade of Winter”, being very deaf it was hard to tell if you were listening to the Folk Song Army Version or the Good Version.

My grandfather did that too.

Re: Deer. It's my understanding that if you hit a deer on the road and kill it, you get claim of first refusal. That is, if you want it, it's yours.

It's been my understanding, that if you find a dead deer, then possession is as good as it gets.

Good stuff - I have a '90 '7-up' Mustang, 44K original miles (http://www.musclecardrive.com/ford/1990-ford-mustang-gt.php)

Scroll down to see it - it is an LX and not a GT.

Northwestern PA??? Small world, I'm originally from Erie myself and currently reside somewhere near Buffalo- my car is in winter storage and will re-awaken on April 2nd. Can't wait.

Are you sure this video wasn't taken on some uninhabited planet? One might guess that no one lives in Wisconsin, if the amount of traffic was the criterion.

Pretty nifty, RH.

I watched it over Dick Dale's Misirlou, which put a real sense of manic urgency into the commute. Because in the city it's manic Misirlou every commute.

Ann Althouse said...

@Tibore It's the same car!

Tibore said...

Oh, this is still Silvio! Excellent! For some odd reason, I thought you had traded in or up one more time since then (don't recall why I thought that...).

Anyway, good! Silvio's still chugging along then! That's good to know.
