The effort to drag down Sarah Palin for using the term "blood libel" has backfired.

The criticism had to do with wanting to restrict the term to its specific original context, a longstanding vicious lie about the Jewish people. The result of the criticism is that now when someone searches the term "blood libel," they see Sarah Palin, Sarah Palin, Sarah Palin. If the intent of the criticism was to preserve the purity of the reference, it's had the opposite effect. (If the intent of the criticism was to take advantage of a perceived opportunity to take another shot at Sarah Palin, the hypocrisy is too nauseating to describe.)

Meanwhile, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach says "Sarah Palin Is Right About 'Blood Libel.'"

Simple rule: "the blood libel" refers to the medieval claim that Jews used the blood of Christians in their passover meals or something.

"Blood libel," without the definite article refers to any false charges of having blood on one's hands, or having caused blood to be shed.

An additional quality shared by both is that the charges are not just false but absurdly so, to the point that only morons would believe it.

Glenn Reynolds and others used the term before Palin did and I didn't see paroxysms of rage at him. Of course, the doesn't scare the left because he's not a potential candidate.

If Jews want to restrict people from using the phrase "blood libel" they ought to claim it as a trademark.

This will never end until the Palin haters wake up from their
fit and realize how bizarrely stupid they look and sound. Apparently some of them think it's their job for MSNBC to stoke the hate of Sarah Palin even to the point of making themselves look ridiculous.

BTW, @rhhardin, best quip of the day.

I seem to remember Clinton saying something about the "politics of personal destruction." After the smears of GWB and Sarah Palin, I'm beginning to think the left are a bunch of hypocrites.
