According to Politico the Coakley campaign sent a memo to DC party headquarters effectively blaming them for her poor campaign.

They were not too happy and responded in kind. The White House responded that "it is mind boggling to spin the election before it is over. There is only one reason for that."

Win, lose, or draw- Coakley is a total loser.

Scenario: Brown wins. GOPS gets egotistical and thinks it was an anti-Obama message. They then think that their fat white old out-of-touch corrupt men will be able to stroll to easy victories in 2010. WRONG!

GOP continues to flail until someone comes along who can cut through the corruption and bullshit while remaining affable, acting inclusive, and looking forward. See Thatcher, M.

Meanwhile, House approves Senate HCR bill. No other Leftist legislative initiates go anywhere. Any further Obama progress is made by executive decree. Andrew Sullivan realizes that Xanax can really help deal with his paranoia of nihilist conspiracies.

She certainly ran an incompetent campaign: insulting Catholics and Red Sox fans, misspelling the state, pre-dating the voter fraud allegation wrongly, etc.

Every once in awhile, the stars align: a hack gets exposed as truly a hack. And poetic justice and irony are served to turn the Kennedy lifelong Senate seat in the bluest of states to give the Republicans the 41st vote to block healthcare being rammed down our throats.

You and I are told increasingly that we have to chose between a left and right. Well, I'd like to suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There's only an up or down. Up to man's own old-age dream-- the idea of the ultimate in individual freedom consistent with law and order-- or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism. Regardless of their sincerity or their humanitarian motives, those who would sacrifice freedom for security have embarked on this downward course.

* Coakley also has a big advantage among those who made up their mind more than a month ago.
* Seventy-six percent (76%) of voters for Brown said they were voting for him rather than against Coakley.
* Sixty-six percent (66%) of Coakley voters said they were voting for her rather than against Brown.

In one case, someone voting in Cambridge claimed a ballot had already been marked for Republican Scott Brown. There was no way to verify the claim, but the ballot was destroyed.

I've been watching MSNBC since about 8:50PM EST. There's a lot of "proactive" election results analysis which strongly implies that Brown has won it. Now, I must tell you that I choose MSNBC hoping to hear a few mea culpas from the gang of drooling cretins who pass for journalists on that minor league news outlet -- something along the lines of "Yeah, we blew it. We thought America actually wanted the socialist bullshit we routinely peddle here at MSNBC. But Scott Brown's remarkable win here tonight in the Bay State has shown us the light."

But Nooooo... I've just witnessed the most inane, the most incoherent, the most astounding stream of mind rot ever offered on television since Pee-Wee's Playhouse was canceled.

Chris Mathews explained to Oblermann that the reason Coakley lost is because she failed to advocate Obama's 1984-esque Big Brother statist vision for America with a sufficiently friendly face!!!

These people are absolutely without contact with the material plane. If the kind of thinking I witnessed on MSNBC is typical of the Democrats (and former law student's fraud ravings reinforce my perception) then I conclude they are, as an institution, as out to lunch as any political party has been since the Nazis convened in that Berlin bunker back in '45.

OMG! The Love Story dude died too.

Erich Segal? And with the Kennedys no longer a factor in American life, do you know what this means?

The Sixties are finally over (Thank you, God!!!!).

Now all we have to do is convince Barry and Pelosi Galore and the rest of the crypto-communists in DC of it. The only way to do that, of course, is to send most of the House and about a quarter of the Senate to the old crooks' home.

Hey, we might actually get the Republican Party to mean something again.

I wonder if a new Althouse reader would be confused by the references to Jeremy in this thread?

I can imagine this theoretical blog reader thinking "F this Althouse character; who is this so-called Jeremy that seems to be the central figure on this blog?"

BTW, Wireless internet is awesome. It's great to check the tubes while on the road. Maybe Althouse and Meade could invest in this technology so that they don't need to hang out at Mc-D's because of the need for WiFi.

I'm watching Rachel Maddow now, and for the first time I've given more than 10 consecutive seconds of my evening. Based on what I've seen so far my instinct to pass by her leftard screed one my way to the something actually enlightening such as Myth Busters was well founded.

Who in blazes hires these freaks? Is a dishwater personality de riguer at MSNBC? And what is that bulldyke pantsuit look she seems to have adopted in lieu of humor and incisive wit? Am I missing something?

1) I'd like to think my $35 donation to Scott Brown helped.
2) I don't care if Scott Brown turns out to be the next Joe Lieberman/John McCain/Lindsey Graham. Just as long as he votes against HC. Please.

@Meade, I agree with you. My comment was "tongue and cheek".
That spot is already filled with Palin and her fans. Don't get me wrong, she has a place in the debate and she should use it to focus on the issues at hand. Conservatives should not look to elect another American Idol candidate.

Hopefully this election is a harbinger for the future. Can we leave the kids anything less? They deserve better...

Not really. Nothing as bad for visitors as reading Jeremy on a tear. People I work with finally checked out "Althouse recently and were so turned off because the 2 threads they read had Jeremy continually. It took me a year to get them to even peek, and there done.

So, I wouldn't worry about this thread.

A little rougher than I would phrase it, but Rachel Maddow's style and wardrobe always reminds me of Communist China under Mao.

The spin will be that the race meant nothing about health care or Obama, but just a loss due to a lackluster campaigner. Then they'll double down, and try to rush the health care bill through.

The question is whether Democrats facing a fall election will believe Obama and their Congressional leaders that the public will be happy come November, as the economy will surely be better by then.

The actual voter message seems obvious to me, and it ain't about being happy with their efforts thus far.

I'm curious why they seem able to believe their own hype.

Democrat Senator Jim Webb says "Seat Brown now"

Sen. Jim Webb (D., Va.) tells CNN: It would "only be fair and prudent that we suspend further votes on health care legislation until Brown is seated."

"In many ways the campaign in Massachusetts became a referendum not only on health care reform but also on the openness and integrity of our government process. It is vital that we restore the respect of the American people in our system of government and in our leaders. To that end, I believe it would only be fair and prudent that we suspend further votes on health care legislation until Senator-elect Brown is seated."

But Sen. Reid says not so fast:

"We welcome Scott Brown to the Senate and will move to seat him as soon as the proper paperwork has been received"
