Look what Meade's got me doing.

That was the 6th time I went cross-country skiing. First time I didn't fall. If you want to discuss my fashion choices, here's the photograph that gave me the confidence to be a trend setter.

And I'm loving the jacket — complete with armpit zippers.

Skiing in a skirt? Ann Duggar!

So it's Swiss-inspired. Will Meade be getting an alphorn, then?

You're stylin' Doc! Very nice!

I've been tempted to try cross-country skiing, but I don't know about the part where you're supposed to take out a rifle and shoot at something - I hate guns.

Very cute!

I love my ski pants that have inner thigh zippers. When it gets warm enough, any cold powder kicked-up going down hill feels refreshing and feeds my snow fetish.

A skirt offers the same principle, but I'm not sure about trying that downhill.

I'd be OK with the shooting part. What puts me off is, I've been told that in order to turn you need to do telemarketing. I hate telemarketing.

What a brave little Althouse. And the Jacket IS sporty.

Well of course. Sometimes you want to take your armpits out without having to take off your jacket.

What delightful pictures, both the 1890 one and the 2009! I'm eating Toblerone chocolate in honor of you right now.

I agree. You look adorable. And the pose in the photo (of you) is sweet.

To quote Billy Crystal, my dahling, you look m-m-m-mahvelous.

I admire you stamina and your willingness to risk snow up the skirt. You do seem to like that skirt quite a bit. I feel like I've seen it in several photos. Weren't you wearing it when you saw the fire while on a hike? Is it your favorite?

Ann Althouse said...

@Robin I have 5 skirts that look similar in photographs. And I do wear them a lot. They are very comfortable and versatile.

For skiing, I have leggings on underneath, so it's only a question of warmth, but my legs have never gotten cold skiing, and we've gone out when it was as low as 9 degrees.

Only my hands and face have ever gotten cold while skiing.

What fun!!

You look fabulous. You should wear silk long johns. They are warm, light weight and sexy feeling.

Love the enitire ensemble.

Kind of reminds me of Little House meets Suzy Chapstick.

Where were you?

I am surprised you can look so happy when it is so fucking cold.

Doing X-country, the date I got a jacket with side zippers going to the armpits was the day I so regretted not having such a jacket 10 years earlier.

Echoing another commentor...the Prof looks fetching and the toning, if she thinks the sport is fun and keeps doing it..will tone her up for long after the snow is gone.

Meade gives the gift of mates giving of something they know and like but which is new in the life of their other...that had not been tried before. And it often sticks and becomes a mutual past time.

A former GF introduced me to about 40 different things of rural life, 5-8 that stuck with me. Another ex-GF - no kidding - taught me how to shoot, then do some trickshooting.

Boston had there annual speedo run last weekend and it was very cold.

But you know those bitches weren't going to let a little cold interrupt an opportunity to take off their clothes.

It's cold here tonight-down to 15.

My balls are even cold. I am wearing longjohns. I like longjohns. I like Longjohn donuts too-especially from Webers Bakery in Lodi, Wisconsin.

It is not w/o some trepidation that I congratulate you professor.

I've only done it once myself.

So its not as though I'm completely precipitous from the fun you must be having ;)

Delicious!

Of course, if you fall down and lay there long enough (watching sheep -- or is it goats?) you could

disappear!!

Any good video should include a bit of tragedy, comedy or both. All you had to do was fall down and you got a winner. A long tumbling dismount that wipes out the camera man would be classic, but no stunt doubles.

Very cute, and the clothes give you lots of room to move, too.

Isn't cross country sort of strenuous? I mean, with downhill you've got gravity going for you.

Nothing on the blog is off-blog.

But thank goodness you have the good sense, as you often remind us, not to blog about your private life! I commend you, professor, for your strong sense of dignity and privacy.

It takes balls to ski in a skirt.

Before the global warming (snicker), I used to xc ski to class, along the river, in Iowa City.

good times

made the guys pant after me in my shiny black hind running tights

i was a rower...tall, buxom, amazing

not so much now

whatever,,,just happy to be here

"It takes balls to ski in a skirt."

Perhaps. But there's never any camel toe.

kentuckyliz said...

at least not viewable to the general public

plenty of room for funky things to be going on under that skirt

save the unveiling for meadie

Kudos to Meade for getting you out there!

Jacket is great. But, is it goose down? I don't think so. Does it cover the back side?

The link says "nearly" year round protection. Yikes. I am in a climate not as cold as Wisconsin's, but am a huge baby with the cold, so I'd need complete year round protection. I can't believe AA would buy anything that wasn't full year protection in Madison!

Love your confidence and derring- do willingness for new adventures. I feel inspired!

You're lucky to have Meade. I'd have you doing my laundry.

Ann Althouse said...

@HT I have warmer coats. Warmer isn't what's needed for this. I was fine in this when it was 9°, and it's just a windbreaker with a second internal jacket that is fleece. It's perfect.

You're an inspiration. I can't actually ski anymore due to a knee injury, so am looking into snowshoeing. Don't know that I'd ever do that in a skirt just because I am not used to wearing one, but might consider if I can find an analogous reference. (Enjoy the Winter! Consider bird watching in conjunction!)
