"Is this real life?"

"David After Dentist" is the #2 most-played YouTube video of the year:

37+ million people watched that. #1 had 120+ million views, the ultimate YouTube phenomenon.

That's a spectacularly dull video.

Ugg and ugg.

Am I the only one who thought that "Dave after dentist" wasn't funny and was left feeling annoyed and vaguely uncomfortable?

But hey, at least the kid will have something to say when he's a teen and is in groups where each person has to share an interesting fact about themselves.

Nobody remembers who came in second.

The clip reminded me of my son so many years ago. In this state, he kept trying to say the alphabet backwards and failed each time to finish. He would start again and again. I got him in the car and as I started to drive he said, "enough is enough, home Rufus". He then passed out cold. I put him to bed and he came to life at about 9 am the next day craving waffles. I still do not know where he came up with the name Rufus.

How is this any different than the female columnists you complained about?

the so called father of that child is a manchild himself.

asshole.

Like that NYT article earlier today people are crossing certain boundaries and getting rewarded for it.

The sad part is that a lot of people older than David think feeling like that is cool.

Now here is a dam good video worthy of number one in my book.

I didn't think it was funny. I felt uncomfortable watching it. Using the child's experience of debilitation for "humor" wasn't right.

When I was about this kid's age I became fascinated with the question of whether my life was a dream from which I would awaken. I would dream of dreaming about dreams. I wondered which of the multiple awarenesses I had was the actual life. This was a very specific question in my mind not some vague uneasiness.

I was also fascinated with the images on mirrors on opposite walls in the barber shop which seemed to nest into each other forever. Einstein was much in the news (this was the 1950's). My father explained the concept of infinity to me and it seemed quite understandable.

I remembered all of this in my late teens and it helped me conclude that drugs were not a good option for me.

Mocking drunk people is always a hoot, especially drunk kids.

I vote with the masses. This wasn't funny and the dad is creepy. Why was it so popular?

"David After Colonoscopy" was a distant 5,389th, however.

"David After Jägermeister" had its moments, however.

10 years later, "David after his first girlfriend dumped him" led to fisticuffs and David's involvement in foster care.

Pomplamoose is my favorite YouTube find of the past year.

Garfunkle and Oates are another musical act I found through YouTube.

One half of that duo was part of another video fave from this past year, Dear Deer.

That kid immediately reminded me of this guy.

I like how he eventually gets the bum's-rush by the Angel.

This SHOULD be #1. Give it time.

Wow, I thought I was the only one who felt that way.

Poor David. All those views, and nothing to show for it except notoriety.

That little drug addict will never get a job.

Has anyone taken that clip from Downfall and turned it into "Hitler After Dentist"? That would probably be a pretty big hit.

I liked it (not enough to make it #1 but I liked it - especially when he asks, "Is this real life?") I thought I was watching little David being, both, pretty profound for his age (fearfully: "Is this going to last forever?") and, of course, a bit out of control (the rage episode) which is a great statement on how drugs can affect you, both good and bad.

Why y'all are hating on the father for posting it, I don't know.

Agree. What's the big deal? It's not like the dad drugged the kid.

Don't forget that the same thing happened to Lord Vader:
