I'm with Daniel. And I'm amazed, what with Althouse's near-Freudian ability to see sexual organs and sexual politics in nearly any old thing, she sees a belly in this picture.
Will...Big trees are magnificent for their easy ability to Stand Strongly and Stiffly and enduring 8+ generations of the Descendants of Adam. Until the 1940s many property boundaries in deed descriptions ran to a "blazed white Oak tree' as a monument. Also seeing a cute belly to rub on a tree trunk is another example of the wonder of creation to us short lived humans. Northern California Redwoods would surely have blown neurotic Mr Freud away.

All the world loves a lover, and that includes the Oak Trees which now seem to love Professor Althouse.
Those new-fangled hydrodynamic swimsuits just don't hold up, do they?
Wow -- that is soooo NOT what that looks like to me. Picture legs on either side...

Looks like maple bark, but without more information, any guess as to the species of tree is just that - a guess.
When I see a lump like that I think - hmm, must be some nicely figured wood in there - where's my saw?
