$17 trillion in debt. That's great and wonderful news for a nation with a $14 trillion GDP.

Funny you say that Lem. Sleeping with the Enemy was on AMC last night. Rather fitting isn't it?

If Obama had shown even average competence and crafted a good, stimulating stimulus plan, we would not be having this conversation.

COMPETENCE will soon be the topic de jour on the Sunday morningnews shows. i.e Is Obama and his highly touted Team of Rivals competent?

Trying to jam through a $1T healthcare takeover in the wake of a $700B stimulus bill, the government takeover of the car companies, the Fannie/Freddie led mortgage bubble, the resulting bank bailouts, and 9.5% unemployment, will go down as one of the largest political miscalculations in American history.

These guys thought they were Gods and could do anything.

Now they'll be forever cast as the heartless, reckless guys that wanted to spend even more while you, your brother, or your friend couldn't find work.

This will be studied by political scientists for decades to come.

wv meneysi - yes, many do see.

@Quayle. Nope. That would require the poly-sci professors to look at a Democrat administration dispassionately.

Military science professors study defeats because they learn more from them than from victories. Left-wing looney fringe Poly-sci professors (but I'm being redundant) not so much.

Dissatisfaction is spreading into open protest as members of Congress try to explain the president's policies to the public.

The problem is, these are not the president's policies. The president does not have policies, he has platitudes. The policies under discussion are wholly owned by Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, perhaps with input from Emmanual and Axelrod.

"Most people trying to sell a pig in a poke are smart enough not to let you look inside."

That's been their MO, with 1000-page bills passed without anyone reading them. And without the internet and bloggers, they might have even succeeded with this disaster of Pelosicare.

But they tripped themselves up b/c the pricetag was too high (thanks, CBO for some truth), and they've already spent trillions we don't have on all their other pet causes.

What is a pig in a poke?

AllenS said...

Pig-in-a-poke is an idiom that refers to a confidence trick originating in the Late Middle Ages, when meat was scarce but apparently rats and cats were not.

The scheme entailed the sale of a "suckling pig" in a "poke" (bag). The wriggling bag would actually contain a cat — not particularly prized as a source of meat — that was sold to the victim in an unopened bag.

In another words, AJ, Obama's heath care plan.

Noise made by a pig that has been stepped on.

The important thing to remember is that its the Republican's fault. Specifically the right wing talk show hosts and numerous conservative media giants. An American public smart enough to elect Obama president could not possibly turn against him so quickly without some unpatriotic and possibly illegal behavior, masquerading as freedom of speech or freedom of the press.

I don't know where the appropriate paperwork is, but I'd like to file a protest against the tag "Obama stumbles".

Stumbling implies a brief break in an otherwise steady stride. The trouble is that with Obama it's not really about stumbling.

Rather, it's about the competing views about who Obama really is, views that were in opposition during the campaign, and are now being proven right or wrong.

What we are seeing is precisely the Obama that a good chunk of the nation expected to see. This isn't even about the political issues involved, it's about the lack of leadership and executive skill that are being illustrated.

We are not seeing Obama stumbling, we are seeing Obama being who Obama always has been, only this time he's really in charge and he can't hide or obfuscate or distract.

"Obama stumbles" would be appropriate if there was an already established pattern for Obama's work. But, as the amount the tag has been used illustrates, the stumbling is the pattern. So, it's not really stumbling at all, just a silly walk that he wants massive amounts of funding to keep up.

Homophobic, more like. Or why is teh gey always the chosen insult? Trying to beat his chest and pretend he's not afraid of that homoeroticism that the football players or soldiers are so comfortable with, going to make sure that we all know that he's comfortable too, not afraid he might like it. Always trying to prove he's not afraid he might like it.

Methadras - Are you saying you also want me to drop my balls in your mouth? I suggest you run this by Hoosier, he gets kind of ornery when other wing nuts trespass on his turf. (Maybe if you gave him a fresh corn cob?)

And the "homo" comment pretty much tells everybody where you're coming from.

Jeremy said...

Synova - I'm not the least bit homophobic, and have absolutely no idea why my comments to Hoosier would make you think so.

My response to the Hoosier was related to the various definitions of teabagging...something I'm sure you and your mouth know all about.

Based on your vast experience, you must know that teabagging isn't confined to homosexuals.

I hope you're not also asking for my balls...there's only so much time in the day.

A leader deserves his followers.

And it shows why a whole lot of people would rather not be led by such a man and those who follow him.

It's both a bit sad and very enlightening how people show themselves online, as opposed to who they probably are in real life. Not really even beta males, and not enough distinction to be omega males. Just... mu males. Stuck in the middle. Finding attention as they can not even by real cravenness or courage, just simulating supposed bravado behind words and masks.

But, the danger is these people are often the very people who become key bureaucrats, not key as in having a high position, just key in being the people with the stamps and the signatures. They hold things up, hold people back, because of petty whims and attempts at making themselves feel like a real person by inflicting themselves on others. But they're not real. They're mists. Shadows. Apparitions of a real human. There's still hope for such. But, not a lot. Because they don't realize how much they are actually dissipating while they attempt to make their mark in chickenshit ways.

One can't drop what one doesn't have, nullo.

I suggest you run this by Hoosier, he gets kind of ornery when other wing nuts trespass on his turf. (Maybe if you gave him a fresh corn cob?)

If I gave him a fresh corn cob, he would just eat it. Besides, have you ever eaten a fresh cob of corn right off the plant? It's savory and delicious, which is just like watching you get destroyed here on Althouse every time you have the nerve to take one of your hands out of your pants to put them on a keyboard.

And the "homo" comment pretty much tells everybody where you're coming from.

Oh my God. I said homo. Quick everyone, run for your lives because I said homo as in homosexual, but just derogatory enough for Jeremy's overly sensitive vagina to quiver in abject horror while he tries to paint me, and unsuccessfully, again, as a homophobe.

Uh oh. I'm going to really do it now, queer, fag, fairy, butt-pirate, fudge-packer, beef, bear, bungie boy, flit, 175'er. k-6'er. I could go on if you like, but I suspect this has turned you on. I'm sure your you are going to sachet your way to your nearest fag hags house to tell her about all the insinuations against your faux manhood on Althouse and then weep for an hour while drinking red wine and eating ice-cream all while watching lifetime with a dash of A&E during breaks.

WV = sactea = I kid you not.

The pig in the poke explanation was well done, and I'm starting to catch on to the myriad of possibilities involved with shagging for beer.

I'm even clued in on tea bagging, but can't for the life of me figure out why Jeremy would enter a public discussion to ask if someone is still interested in having him drop his balls in their mouth.

Reconciling Jeremy's interest in "educating conservatives" (as stated in his profile) with the crude, incongruent, and abusive kinds of comments he tends to make here is also difficult.

He appears to be literate and capable of thought. I was surprised to note I share an interest in some of the same movies and authors he lists.

I wonder if the education he received growing up influenced him adversely? Maybe his instruction involved a warped educational model? Or maybe he's still growing up? (This would certainly explain his immature sexual and scatological fixations.)

Whatever, I continue to hold out for hope and change for him

A suggestion MamaM-
Skip the comments headed by the names Jeremy and L.E. Lee.
There's simply nothing to be gained by reading them.

I hear you Greybeard. It's probably time for me to follow your suggestion.

As the mother of creative, intelligent, boys grown to men, something wishful happens in me whenever I see LELee hopping around, flinging insults like poop balls or encounter a grown man like Jeremy still trying for whatever negative attention he can muster.

I wish they'd both have the courage to bring more humor and self respect to the table. Even the tiniest bit would be an improvement.
