We had such high hopes for maggots.

They may not be the miracle healers we'd thought.

Oh. OH!

I thought you were talking about Congress.

Sorry...

Seriously. Maggots were The Wonder treatment during the Napoleonic wars for wound debridement.

the article from the BBC says they are as good as the 21st century therapy. In the 18th century, that made them fantastic.

That's the true value of science. The ability to tell you that something you thought was true is actually false.

What next, leeches don't really restore blood flow to reattached extremities? Or that you don't need to seek treatment if you fall and hit your head?

Maggots - they give pus a good name.

Maggots are "like the Special Olympics" of wound healing.

I read the article. The maggot debridement treatment was equal to the best of the other treatments they tried, and maybe better if quicker debridement was necessary. Think tough...not emotionally, if Medical Science is the goal. Leave telling the easiest stories to us Lawyers. Maggots get to eat us up when our bodies die, which is disturbing at a deep level, like the Movie Jaws, But let's use them first to keep us alive longer. That's another victory for mankind's Scientific Dicipline using our God given brains. Bon Appetit!

I thought it was about NewAgers, but then, I think everything's about NewAgers.

Poor maggots. One day everybody's telling them they're all that and the biggest breakthrough since trepanation and then the next the phone goes dead and Leno doesn't return their calls.

Why does this remind me of American Idol?

Maybe they can still make a deal for a Reality TV show, Maggot Manor.

Michael,

Speaking as an ex-Drill SGT, I can tell you things have been going down hill for them since the mid 70's.

We used to be able to say:

Maggot!! drop down and give me 50!

Now it's:

Would the Soldier in Training mind assuming the front leaning rest and do as many of those push things as he/she feels comfortable with?

Maggots is too kind a term for politicians. They, your representatives, passed a punitve tax yesterday. Not a peep from the public about it. No outrage.

Now they can pass their whole agenda to kill our freedom and prosperity. I hope you are all happy now.

The retards are in charge.

Before or after their allotted time out?

I don't think it is polite to call them maggots. I mean they can call each other maggots but we can't call them that. It's offensive.

Please try to keep up.

How about this one. The Head Maggot in Charge decided to have a meeting on Veteran Affairs. Various veteran groups were brought in to discuss veteran benefits.

The Maggot in charge left his agenda with his staff while he flew to California. What was on the agenda? Making veterans use their private health insurance to help pay the cost of war related injuries.

This is the man who claims that veterans and their families are one of his priorities.

The hue and cry was swift and short lived. Evidently The Head Maggot in Charge got the word of the outrage and called his staff to take that off the table before the media got a hold of it.

The head of the American Legion went on the airwaves to let people know about this.

Maggots must be a sign of Dead Things to us. Living things get better and grow, but dead things are slowly disappearing and stink. The police I knew always called criminals "Maggots" implying that they were as worthless as if already dead.

Indeed. What these weak-kneed maggots need is a little time on Paris Island with Sgt. Hartman.

Oh wait. I thought this was about Ezra Klein and the JournoList ... when I read "maggots".

My bad.

Where's the cockroach? He should have something interesting to say.

(I like the headline sequence, you're up there in Drudge's league.)

Ah, Sgt. Hartman - a leader of men. I like his form of equal opportunity - it is awesome in its own grabasstic way.

In a universal health care system with limited resources, maggots would be easy and cheap to obtain. Yes, I remember they use special maggots in hospitals, still and all, when you gotta have em....

Leave Barney Frank Alone!

Chris Dodd too.

I plan to discuss this with my local PETA chapter. The treatment may not improve things for the humans, but it's definitely good for the maggots.
