"So Hitchens immediately takes out a pen and writes 'No, no, Fuck You' on the [Syrian Nazi Party] poster."

"Well, when this Syrian Nazi goon saw Hitch do this, he confronted him and kinda-sorta attacked him. I say kinda sorta attacked, because what his main intent was was to delay Hitchens from leaving -- until the ten Nazi goons he had just texted on his cell phone could arrive."

Yeah, which Homer did you think I was quoting? The Greek poet? Come on!...  :D

It's a shame we haven't yet invented some kind of portable self-protection device that can be used to threaten - indeed, kill - would-be attackers at a range of greater than rushing distance.

(1) Mr. Hitchens should have simply explained to his detractors that he is a world-renowned “street artist” and that they should feel honored to have inspired his latest masterpiece.

I’m sure they’d have been impressed.

(2) Ashley Todd approves!

ISAAC DAVIS: Has anybody read that Nazis are gonna march in New Jersey? You know, we should go there . . . get some guys together . . . get some bricks and baseball bats and explain things to them.

SOPHISTICATE # 1: There was this devastating satirical piece on that in the Times.

ISAAC DAVIS: Well, a satirical piece in the Times is one thing, but bricks get right to the point.

SOPHISTICATE #2: But biting satire is better that physical force.

ISAAC DAVIS: No, physical force is better with Nazis. It's hard to satirize a guy with shiny boots.

Well, that just can't be so, since one of his co-bloggers is openly gay, as are several currently active commenters. I guess what I'm saying, DTL, is that you're a pathetic liar.

It's more likely he only has a policy banning insane, hateful, single-issue threadjackers. That certainly would fit the fact-pattern better.

Is there a test?

downtownlad said...

Wrong rocketeer. I was banned from his blog within 5 minutes of saying that I was gay, after I had commented on the blog for 2 months without incident.

Same with Free Republic.

I guess they allow self-loathing gay people to comment. But the minute you mention that you are in favor of anything pro-gay rights. Banned.

Try again.

DTL, you know you have a troll-style of expressing yourself. And while I love and understand you, it's not really something that you can expect and demand.

And what I exactly am I demanding?

I am observing.

rocketeer67 said...

Bullshit, DTL. I've stated on numerous occasions (as has Ace, along with literally dozens of other commenters) that I am pro-gay rights, and I've not been banned - nor have the others. You were banned because you were hateful and abusive to other commenters, and toxic to rational discussion. I've noted the same behavior from you here, so it clearly wasn't just situational. You're simply lucky that the good Professor here can tolerate children more.

You may peddle your trash to folks who don't know better, and even make it fly from time to time, but I was there and I know why you were banned.

downtownlad said...

Ann - Why don't you try an experiment.

Join Free Republic and make one pro-gay comment on any gay subject. Let's see if you're banned within 24 hours.

downtownlad said...

wrong Rocketeer. Find the thread.

And you're not pro-gay rights either. So stop lying about that.

Heh.
The incurious and intolerant dogmatist questions the integrity of those refusing to play his game.
Do go on!

Ace cannot make one comment about Andrew Sullivan without mentioning that he has AIDS Dementia.

Just like he calls Barney Frank, "Barney Fag". In fact, he can't comment about a gay person without making a joke about anal sex.

Fine, his prerogative. But it is telling.

And has he ever banned a commenter for calling for gay people to be killed, which happens frequently. No. But he'll ban a gay person for defending himself. Something you obviously don't think gay people have a right to do.

All Hail Christopher Hitchens! I don't agree with him on a lot of issues, but in this case he is on the side of the Angels. I wish him a speedy recovery.

rcocean said...

That's why I read "Ace" - its a DTL free zone.

As for Sully, his fans can dish it out but that can't take it. So whine away.

BTW, did Hitch really say "Please God, don't hit me again?"

Palladian said...

Wait... did the Syrian Nazis try to beat up Ace of Spades because Christoper Hitchens wrote "I am gay" on a picture of downtownlad? I'm confused...

What are we talking about??

"And while I love and understand you, it's not really something that you can expect and demand."

You love and understand him? I'm beginning to seriously question your judgment. Next thing you know you'll be having lunch with a degenerate like me.

Just because I'm pro-civil unions and not pro-gay marriage doesn't mean I'm not pro-gay rights, DTL. See what I mean? Toxic to rational disucssion. And oh, look! - there's that single issue I was talking about.

I'm definitely not pro-DTL.

And with that, I am done talking to and about you, forever.

Hoosier Daddy said...

DTL, when you hijack a thread, do you wear a ski mask and threaten to blow up your computer?

You know there are other issues that can be discussed that don't require a gay rights theme injected into them. Really, there are.

Okay, let's look at this.

First we have the conflation of "I'm gay" with something "pro-gay rights". This is not inevitable, especially without spelling out what the "pro-gay-rights" thing was.

Second, what's with the "self-loathing" stuff? You get to decide how another gay person is supposed to think, and whether he has sufficient self-respect to meet your standards?

Third, if you think it is appropriate to refer to other gay people as "self-loathing" when they don't conflate "I am gay" with whatever your version of being "pro-gay rights" is, and you comment in that vein somewhere less tolerant than Ann's blog; (and she is dang tolerant;) and then you think that you are banned for being gay, you need a ticket to the clue train. Seriously.

In a post about Hitchens and murdering Nazi Muslims (noting that both Nazis and Muslims have a huge history of executing homosexuals), DTL immediately zeros in on the real enemy, a blog by Ace of Spades!

Back in med school, a psychiatrist taught me once that in any group meeting where one member routinely becomes the center of attention, that member has a personality disorder until proven otherwise.

Damn if he wasn't always always right about that, a maxim that has served me well.

You say that as if it wasn't completely predictable. If doctors discovered a cure for cancer tomorrow, Townie would respond by bitching that the AMA has a policy of actively discriminating against homosexuals. :)

Hitch has now perfectly played out the role of a new conservative: A liberal mugged by reality. The Nazi religion (and it is an occult religion) metastizised into several places using the rat lines after May 1945. Several of these rat lines ended here in the USA in our attempt to try out the Nazi's scientific learning in several fields. In Syria's case the nazi's never had to flee. Syria remains an "Axis of Evil" member state today.

They should've acquired them once there? (Gun rental, perhaps?)

Best description of Hitchens I've ever heard. I've often thought that I would love to have him as a guest at a dinner party, even assuming it would likely mean one or more of the other guests leaving in tears.

traditionalguy said...

Chris Hitchens is the most open minded advocate for free speech I have ever seen. I would want this man on my side in a fight. Unfotunately, he is an Anti-Christian outstanding in his field. He may still come around if he keeps thinking.

The Syrian 'security services' are certainly thugs as I can attest from first hand experience. I've had their guns shoved in my ear and up my nose more than once. My wife and then-infant son got caught in a crossfire between them and a group of demonstrating Kurds on the streets of Damascus and had to run for their lives.

Syria also has certain sympathies toward the Nazis, providing housing for Alois Brunner, one of the last of the major Nazi war criminals. He may or may not have died in Syria sometimes over the past few years.

I cannot compare it to N. Korea or Cuba, never having lived in either, but if you'd like to experience a police state, Syria's where you want to go.

It's great if you're a tourist with no links to Israel, but if you act up, you get slammed down. If you don't disappear, that is.

This is patent nonsense. Ace has several openly gay regular commenters. And he's not quick with the banhammer, either - most trolls are simply laughed at or have their posts changed to something ridiculous.

The only way you could possibly get banned after five minutes is to say something blatantly racist. Do you have a link to the post?

Did you see that Alois Brunner was used to teach torture and interrogation techniques in Syria. Being a Doctorate of Philosophy in torture and murder makes him highly valuable in any Moslem Government dedicated to Extermination of humans. Syria knows talent when it's on the market, like Geo Steinbrenner.
