That is one cute hippo.

I think bissage's quote should be put on the front page.

Hippos are mean KILLERS. They kill more people than lions and crocs in Africa every year.

Yeah, but how much danger is there from a pigmy hippo? Unless you're Vern Troyer or Warwick Davis.

Oh, gosh. Just adorable.

And Lawgiver: Someone just told me that the other day...that hippos were very aggressive and dangerous. I had to look that up to find out it is true. Interesting!

Whaaaa!... I take that back. Turns out there is quite a bit of danger:

"Adult pygmy hippos stand about 75–83 cm (30–32 inches) high at the shoulder, are 150–177 cm (59–70 inches) in length and weigh 180–275 kilograms (400–600 pounds)."

Yipes. Those things are only "pygmy" compared to real hippos. Otherwise, yeah, they're frikkin' big.

First on one thread someone bad-mouthed free range chickens. And then it was innocent prawns.

Now it's hippos.

Shame.

Tibore said...

Would those happen to be range chickens that are free? Or chickens wandering freely on a range?

Or did you mean "de-ranged chickens"? Because I think anyone would be behind badmouthing those crazy f'ers.

:D

First they came for the chickens....

And if you object to voting for a hippo, you're a bigot and a speciesist.

It hasn't offered a single position on any policy. This points to my supposition that you're voting on aesthetics, Ann.

Well it's ineligible if it was born in Australia .... WHY WON'T THE PYGMY HIPPO RELEASE ITS BIRTH CERTIFICATE???????

The rare pygmy hippo in the "Office of the President-Elect" just use a government website to fish for email addresses to use in fundraising efforts--totally illegal, and a continuation of his illegal fundraising activity before the election.

He never had any intention of following our bourgeoisie laws.

I wonder if the rare pygmy hippo picked the balding ostrich with the hair plugs for a best friend?

I wand a miniature cow.

Dexter cattle, they're called.

They produce enough milk and dairy products for a sizeable family.

Plus! Pygmy cow!

Forget a dog for the Obama girls. They should most certainly get themselves a pygmy hippo!

If they need help in learning to care for it, National Zoo, just a couple of miles away up Connecticut Avenue, has had pygmy hippos since I was a kid. They know all the tricks.

Underneath the East Wing of the White House, where the White House Press Corps hangs around, is a swimming pool that was covered over, I believe by Nixon. (Kennedy used the pool for therapy.)

That could be configured to address the aquatic needs of the pygmy hippo while chasing reporters out of the White House. That sounds like a double win to me!

BTW, in the case of the pygmy hippo, I think it would look better spelled pigmy hippo. I might even turn into a new reality TV show.

Ye gods it's getting sensitive around here when a mild little nonsense rhyme is removed for showing The One lack of respect.

Despite their cute appearance, they are very tough and stringy, and no amount of marination can hide the gamey taste.

ricpic, I took it out because it went over the line race-wise.
