Foggy morning.

Skyline fog

Feel free to talk about anything here. And give me some questions for a vlog. I promise not to let it go out-of-synch like last night's.

Here's a question: After a foggy morning, is there anything better than a Froggy Evening?

Since your move to Brooklyn, have you ventured into Manhattan yet?

related to allens's question, do you have a list in your head of places you're going to go in Manhattan? Will you try some high-end dining and photo-blog it?

So far what seems different about New York now compared to when you lived there the last time?

Have you made your way to Long Island, to Floral Park, to Koenig's on S. Tyson?

I recommend going at lunch time and getting the world's best roast beef sandwich. By a mile. It is impossible to describe just how much better than any other roast beef sandwich it is. You can get on the LIRR in Jamaica and get off within walking distance.

But on to more topical matters, what is your opinion of this attitude? "I understand that people have a hard time with the concept that we get to decide what is news and what isn't, and what is fair and what isn't."

I already did!

But haven't you noticed that I don't detail things that I do with other people? I'll say something about this on the vlog.

My kids are out from Brooklyn for a long weekend...the daughter-in-law having been born and raised on the Upper West Side now finds Brooklyn to be even more "homey" feeling and neighborhood-centric.

After being away, do you find it thus?

Do you have noisy neighbors?

Quasi-question: A commenter in another thread recently asked you if you could talk about your experience at Sullivan & Cromwell, and in particular, why you felt that private practice wasn't for you.

I seem to remember reading something where you talked about this before, but it might be an interesting thing to talk about for other readers.

Ignore my previous question. I just heard your vlog. Even if you had noisy neighbors, you'd be unable, apparently, to hear them over the din of city life.

Do you just adore a penthouse view?

Does your current law school have the equivalent of a cane toss?

What's a cane toss?

Trooper York said...

It's what happened to David Carridine every time he went to new town and went to the livery stable.

Very, very embarrassing question from a person who calls herself a loyal reader:

Please, someone, point me to a post that explains why Ann is blogging from Brooklyn. Somehow I missed it and have been confused for days.

Simon said...

Bearing - she's teaching at Brooklyn Law this academic year.

Maxine Weiss said...

That's not the reason. Brooklyn brings variety to the Blog----and that's the only reason she bothered.

Grist for the Blogmill is the motive for everything she does.

Like my grandfather always used to say: "Someone's always got your number".

I'm on to her. Althouse is more transparent than she thinks.

Nice photo, Ann. I got off the ferry from Hoboken around 8 AM and the buildings in Jersey City had that nice cloud wreath. Always makes me want to have a small camera in my pack for those shots that just come up. Your photo was a nice reminder - I like your work in general.

bearing said...

Oh thank you Simon. That clears things up.

Ruth Anne Adams said...

Bearing: This is Althouse's official announcement. As she deigned to give us a whole 13 words several months ago, it's no surprise that even a loyal reader might've missed it.

Ruth Anne Adams said...

Bearing: And Maxine was immediately on record opposing the move.

How long before that photo could be taken again?
I'm glad you were there, and had the "eye" to grab the camera!

The Brooklyn Law School certainly has enough visiting faculty this year! Is this specific to Brooklyn Law, or is it usual for law schools to have such large numbers of visitors?

AND, do they put everyone up in nice apartments?

"AND, do they put everyone up in nice apartments?"

Only the really special ones. ;) "Ha[ve you] not heard? ... [T]o be a Federal Courts professor [i]s to enjoy special status within the academy." ;)

A photo full of originality, eschewing the obvious! Your photos are not, shall we say, banausic!

Next, as bissage suggested, do a foggy one after dark: night & fog. Wait, there seems something wrong with that title; let me get back to you on that.

Ruth Anne: Since you like puns, how about this “‘cane toss’: what a baseball pitcher from the deep south says when his arm is sore.”
