"Not just television great, but great in the way of a poem or painting, great in the way of art with a single obsessive creator..."

"... who doesn’t have to consult with a committee and has months or years to go back and agonize over line breaks and the color red; it could belong in a league with art that doesn’t have to pause for commercials... 'Friday Night Lights' is a wonder."

And that's a good review. I don't like that a show with "Friday" in the title is on on Tuesday, but, on the strength of that NYT review, I set the TiVo.

I'm patiently awaiting the day when TV shows just go direct to DVD, so I can bypass the tedious process of waiting for them to actually be broadcast first.

"friday night lights on tuesday ... that's not confusing!"

This show is perfect for one of those new one-second TV microads—

"See Friday...Tuesday."

Just what America needs—for the work week to end before it barely begins.

It does have good buzz and I will be watching!

Jericho is also surprisingly good. I love the cinematography--a couple of the shots in the pilot reminded me of the original Cape Fear. It's about H-bombs falling on the US, so I'm sure they'll get around to Blaming Bush, but up to now it's well written, acted, and filmed.

I was planning to watch it but I missed Tivoing it; I hope there's a repeat showing.

Elizabeth, unless I am greatly mistaken, the premier is tomorrow (Tuesday, Oct 3). You haven't missed it yet.

And yes, it's on the TiVO. I have a really soft spot for Kyle Chandler, who's playing the coach. I was traumatized when they blew him up on Grey's Anatomy last year.

I saw several commercials for Friday Night Lights last night, and I've got to say, what they showed looked and felt absolutely nothing like high school football experience I've ever known.

My wife: "Ugh. Do coaches really talk like that?"
Me: "Hell no."
