"And I'll do a little live blogging with Arianna Huffington, if you know what I mean..."

"... What do I mean?" -- Steve Colbert, on last night's "Colbert Report."

That absolutely cracked me up...I thought that interview in general showed how comfortable he's become in his character. Great back and forth.

Another gem:

"Actually, wikipedia says you didn't invent the term truthiness..."

"F*** wikipedia."

I liked that he kept his ashes on his forehead last night.

Ruth Anne: Yes, and that he said if you'd forgotten to get yours, you could rub your forehead up against the screen.

Not to beat a dead horse, but would a truly committed lefty liberal have kept their ashes unconcealed?

(more signs of Colbert's 'closetness' I say)

Right, because in order to be truly committed to progressive taxation, affirmative action, separation of religion and government, environmentalism, etc. you have to deny your personal religious traditions.

Sadly, that's indeed what it has come to, Steven. By the way, is that an accurate summation of the meaning of liberalism? Affirmative action? Environmentalism? What happened to liberty?

Amongst the left the way it is constituted in the United States, and especially in Manhattan, yes you are expected to be circumspect about your personal religious beliefs.

I didn't say a liberal couldn't be religious, I put many qualifiers on the term liberal (truly committed lefty), but I do think Colbert was both 'playing his character' and being himself simultaneously by showily wearing his ashes on national television.

John Stewart matches the truly committed lefty part (and only references his religion from an ethnic, not ethics or religious standpoint).

Colbert is a different animal, and I'll make a prediction that you will see a couple of stories and comments in the next month attacking South Dakota's near total abortion ban on The Daily Show and you won't here a peep about it on The Colbert Report.

And Steven, is there a reason why you left out the hottest of the hot button issues where faith and politics collide (Abortion namely)?

A new low in anti-left bigotry, XWL.
