I do miss living in a college town. There are schools here, but by no means is this a college town, in various of which I grew and lived into well into my '30s.
I'm not in Madison, but I've been pepper sprayed by the police as a peaceful civilian before. It was unpleasant but not the worst thing that's happened to me--I was upset but grudgingly understood why it happened (I turned the wrong corner, right into the police as they were trying to do crowd control/prevent a riot). An NPR reporter got hit right in the eyes at ~ the same time though and needed medical attention.
Actually, IIRC not too long before this happened to me, a young girl was accidentally killed by some sort of non-lethal munition in a similar crowd-control incident.
graphically they are terrific and true eye candy to me.
who cares what they say. i think it's almost intentionally cute/ironic... playing off of the sing-song comment one hears as they tear out the door to trick or treat...

Ahhh, nostalgia.
Perhaps they put up a sign across Madison police stations, "don't forget to pepper spray civilians, even the peaceful ones."
Maybe it's a comment to encourage the kids on campus to act like the kids around Paris...
Who'd a thunk Clara Barton went to hell?

I wonder what Ann thinks of the pepper spraying. Ann, do you wish to opine?
I think I'd rather be pepper sprayed than shot at with one of those damn rubber bullet things. Ouch!
And let's not go back to the days of the water cannons...
