1000.

That's the number of miles I just drove. Beginning with the sunrise in the rearview mirror, I ended driving into the early part of the sunset, which made the mountains look like frosted glass.

A big difference between driving east and west from Wisconsin: tolls! It's tolls all the way after Wisconsin, going east. Not a single toll going west.

Glad to hear that you arrived safely. I just don't know how you can drive 1000 miles in one day.

Have a great time!

Well, there was a part in the middle when I got really sleepy! It was about 3 in the afternoon. Then it went away and I was fine. I even went out and walked about here in my home base and ate out.

The reason I go 1000 miles in one day, going west is that I don't want to stay overnight in, say, Nebraska.

Lincoln, Nebraska is a great place. My first daughter went to UNL, got a great education and had a wonderful experience there, although she crammed 4 years into 5 and one half.

It turned out to be one of my wife's favorite places to visit. She was born in NYC and grew up in a quaint New Jersey suburb 10 miles from the Big Apple. We still go out there every couple years even though it is a 1000 mile drive from Atlanta.

You might have really enjoyed staying there.

Trolls are terrible, frightening creatures and I agree with you, they are the worst thing about traveling.

Oh, did you say *tolls*?!

Nevermind.

Jim: I'm interested in photography and want to get to the scenic. I see the Great Plains as something I have to leap over to get to the good part.

Chuck: LOL.

Lars: I was there the night of the tornados. They either hit you or they don't. I heard the sirens and knew they were close by, but I didn't get unlucky.

As one who grew up in Lincoln, I have to say it's not an all-bad town.

That said, I doubt I'd want to stop there in the middle of my drive somewhere -- altho the state capitol building is pretty photogenic, and at its base is a rather nice statue of Abe Lincoln, one of the only two Abe statues that the sculptor made (the other one sits on a big chair in DC).

John Henry, she can't tell us where she is (and what she is up to), because then all her stalker fans will show up and ruin her vacay. Don't you know anything?

You have to assume that wherever she says she is, she was there like a bazillion five "minuteses" ago.

And what is she doing? She is pulling into a Wendy's for a spicy chicken sandwich and baked potato, and wondering whether her secret lawyer internet lover in Oregon will look like the picture; she is also wondering if Silvio in the parking lot is being scratched by the family of ten pouring out of the neighboring mini-van, but the spicy chicken is so good, that she decides to photoblog it, and forgets the car.
